24 evacuated from Iran arrive safely in Malaysia
SEPANG: A total of 24 individuals, including 17 Malaysians, who were evacuated from Iran following escalating conflict in the country, have safely returned home.
Malaysia Airlines flight MH781 carrying the evacuees landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 at 11.03 pm.
They were welcomed by the Foreign Ministry's Deputy Secretary-General (Bilateral Affairs), Datuk Ahmad Rozian Abd Ghani.
The group comprised 17 Malaysians, six Iranian dependents of Malaysian citizens, and one Singaporean national.
Malaysia's Ambassador to Iran, Khairi Omar, who led the group, told the media they had to travel by land for about 1,000 kilometres to exit Tehran.
'We chose a route away from the source of the attacks, which were coming from the west, so we headed east. Alhamdulillah, we received strong cooperation from the Turkmenistan government, which allowed foreign nationals to cross the border,' he said.
He added that around 12 Malaysians were still in Iran and Wisma Putra was closely monitoring their situation to ensure their safety and well-being.
According to a statement from Wisma Putra, all 24 individuals crossed the Iran–Turkmenistan border on June 21, 2025, and boarded a Turkmenistan Airlines flight T5 647 on June 22, 2025, to Bangkok, Thailand, before continuing their journey on Malaysia Airlines flight MH781 to Kuala Lumpur.
The evacuation, coordinated by the Malaysian Embassy in Tehran, involved a 1,120-kilometre land journey to the Iran-Turkmenistan border. The Malaysian embassies in Ashgabat and Bangkok also facilitated flight arrangements from Ashgabat to Malaysia.
The Foreign Ministry expressed its deepest appreciation to the governments of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Turkmenistan, and Thailand for their close cooperation, which enabled the smooth return home for the Malaysians.
'This evacuation process reflects the Malaysian Government's continued commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of its citizens, in line with the core value of 'Ihsan' (Compassion) under the Malaysia MADANI framework,' the statement said.
Wisma Putra also confirmed that the Malaysian Embassy in Ashgabat assisted in the repatriation of Bruneian citizens from Turkmenistan to their home country.
It added that the involvement of a Singaporean citizen in the evacuation and the assistance extended to Brunei nationals reflected Malaysia's readiness to offer support to citizens of fellow ASEAN nations, in the spirit of regional solidarity.

Fahmi: Universities must equip students to face uncertainty, change

The Lembah Pantai Scholarship 2025, introduced by Uni Enrol in collaboration with leading Malaysian private institutions will award 17 full scholarships to the 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia students from schools in the constituency. Eligible students include those from households earning below RM8,000 or those who have represented their state or country in sports. The initiative was launched alongside the signing of a strategic investment partnership between Uni Enrol and the Global Education Alliance (GEA), a leading international education group. The collaboration is set to strengthen Malaysia's position as a regional hub for higher education access, particularly for transnational pathways to study destinations such as the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Meanwhile, recalling his own experience at Purdue University in the United States, Fahmi shared how entering unfamiliar territory helped shape his perspective. He said it was this openness to change that later helped him navigate life's unexpected turns, including his journey into politics. "I never dreamed that 25 years down the line I would end up being a lawmaker and a minister," he said. Fahmi said today's students have access to more tools and platforms to guide them in their educational choices, helping them find a better fit for their interests and ambitions. He added that platforms such as the Uni Enrol and GEA which have now made matching students to the right courses and universities easier, were not available during his time. "Having these few tools, especially in these times, affords a lot more room for students to find a better match, whether that match will turn out as what they thought it would be. "But whether that match will turn out as what they thought it would be, that is for them to discover.

DPMs, Cabinet ministers convey condolences over death of Sarawak Premier's wife

FM Mohamad urges all parties to exercise restraint, avoid escalation in Middle East
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and to avoid any further escalation of the situation in the Middle East. The Foreign Ministry in its Facebook posting Monday said Mohamad made the call during a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the 51st Session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Istanbul, Turkiye. 'Both Ministers discussed the ongoing developments following the recent attacks on Iran,' the ministry said. Tensions erupted on June 13 when Israel launched airstrikes on several locations across Iran, including military and nuclear facilities, prompting Tehran to retaliate. On Sunday the United States conducted airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites, sparking fears and condemnation across the globe.
