Mature democracy cannot exist without free, fair and fearless journalism, says Ramanan
In a Facebook post in conjunction with Hawana 2025, Ramanan said honour and recognition should be given to the journalists for their daily dedication to reporting with conscience and amplifying the voices of the people with integrity and responsibility.
"I speak not only as a government leader but as someone who deeply values the trust and freedom to speak out.
"I am sincerely grateful for every news report and coverage, including those involving myself and my programmes, both past and present,' he posted.
Ramanan, who is also PKR vice-president, also acknowledged the media's vital role in providing a platform for him and his colleagues to advance the reform agenda.
"Without you, our voices would go unheard, and without you, the people's voices would never resonate. Keep reporting the truth. Never fear speaking out for the sake of justice," he added.
Hawana is celebrated annually on May 29, with this year's main event scheduled for June 14 at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to officiate the event, which is set to gather around 1,000 media practitioners from Malaysia and abroad.
Now in its fifth edition since its inception in 2018, Hawana is an annual occasion that brings together media professionals to honour their contributions to national development. - Bernama

Education Ministry orders spot checks on schools to curb bullying
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Education Ministry has ordered all state education directors and district education officers to conduct spot checks on schools to curb bullying. Education director-general Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad (pic) said officials also have to visit boarding schools at night, not only to monitor but to know and understand how boarding school students live. "Perhaps we need to visit unannounced. We go to schools to observe the situation and understand the nature of the school and how things operate. Tanjong MP distributes Jalur Gemilang for National Month celebrations
GEORGE TOWN: The Tanjong MP Service Centre has distributed 1,600 Jalur Gemilang flags to 21 schools in the parliamentary constituency in preparation for National Day and Malaysia Day 2025. Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying officiated the distribution of 6,000 mini Jalur Gemilang flags to students at the Tanjong Parliamentary Constituency District Level National Month Launching Ceremony. Lim, who is also the Tanjong MP, encouraged all schools in the area to proudly display the Jalur Gemilang at their gates, buildings, or classrooms. She emphasised that the flag is more than just a decoration but a symbol of spirit, hope, and responsibility for the younger generation. 'Let every corner be decorated with the Jalur Gemilang colours as a symbol of unity of heart, love for the country and appreciation for the sacrifices of past warriors,' she said. Lim also presided over the 2024 STPM Excellence Incentive Presentation Ceremony, awarding RM10,600 to 28 high-achieving students. Two students from Kolej Tingkatan Enam Hutchings and SMKA Al-Mashoor Perempuan achieved a perfect Overall Grade Point Average (OGPA) of 4.0.
