Chargers Announce Decision On Najee Harris After Fireworks Injury
A scary July 4th incident will reportedly result in a training camp delay for Chargers running back Najee Harris.
The ex-Steelers Pro Bowler suffered a superficial eye injury in a fireworks accident a couple weeks back. And while it isn't expected to keep the 27-year-old veteran out for long, he won't be a full participant when LA's camp opens on Thursday.
Per Daniel Popper of The Athletic, "Chargers GM Joe Hortiz said Najee Harris (eye) will likely begin training camp on [the non-football injury list]. Harris is expected to report to The Bolt later today, per Hortiz. Harris has been receiving treatment from doctors at Stanford."
On July 10, Harris' agent Doug Hendrickson came out and broke the news that his client had been involved in the unfortunate occurrence:
"Najee Harris was present at a 4th of July event where a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendees," Hendrickson's statement read. "Najee sustained a superficial eye injury during the incident, but is fully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season."
Harris signed with the Chargers this offseason on a one-year, $5.25 million deal after spending his first four seasons in Pittsburgh.
The former Alabama star has rushed for 1,000 yards and at least six touchdowns every year of his professional career and has never missed a game.Chargers Announce Decision On Najee Harris After Fireworks Injury first appeared on The Spun on Jul 16, 2025

Jets QB Justin Fields suffers dislocated toe in his right foot during Thursday's practice
New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields suffered a dislocated toe in his right foot during Thursday's practice, the team announced. Fields is considered "day-to-day" and, according to the Jets, "avoided serious injury and significant missed time." Fields threw an incompletion, then sat down and stood up before limping off the field. Trainers were seen removing his right cleat to work on his foot. He was then carted off to the locker room to be examined. The team then ended what they were doing in practice and began working on special teams. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Head coach Aaron Glenn told reporters he believed Fields had his foot stepped on. Tests showed no fracture, only the dislocation, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Jets are hoping Fields will be ready for Week 1. Fields is in his first season with the Jets after signing a two-year, $40 million contract in the offseason after spending 2024 with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tyrod Taylor is the Jets' backup quarterback. When asked about the veteran signal caller potentially being needed to play, Glenn said, "I don't think there's any drop off as far as what we want to do when it comes to play calling." Fields making an impression early on Prior to his time in Pittsburgh, Fields played three seasons in Chicago after the Bears selected him with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Bears traded Fields to the Steelers in 2024 after obtaining the No. 1 pick in the draft to select Caleb Williams. Fields then split time in Pittsburgh with Russell Wilson. He started Pittsburgh's first six games after Wilson suffered a calf injury in training camp before Wilson took over at quarterback for the rest of the season. In 10 appearances, including his six starts, Fields completed 65.8% of his passes last season for 1,106 yards on 6.9 yards per attempt with five touchdowns and one interception. He ran for 289 yards on 4.7 yards per carry with five rushing touchdowns. The Steelers were 4-2 in games he started, but moved on to Wilson once he was healthy. During offseason work, Fields has impressed Sauce Gardner, to the point that the two-time All-Pro cornerback said Fields has been making throws on the level of the quarterback he is replacing. "There's only a certain amount of quarterbacks that can make [certain throws]," Gardner said earlier this month via "The Pat McAfee Show." "I'm talking about throws on, like, Aaron [Rodgers'] type of level. When it comes to being able to squeeze those throws in there, I always thought Aaron was the best when it came to that. And it's like Justin had made a few throws where I'm like, 'OK, he really been in the lab, for real.' I could just tell." Fields and the Jets won't have to wait long to see Rodgers and his new team, the Steelers. New York and Pittsburgh will meet in Week 1.

Cam Heyward reveals at training camp what Steelers defense needs to become NFL's best
Cameron Heyward is all gas and no brakes in 2025 — and he's setting the bar high for the Steelers defense this season. At Thursday's training camp, Heyward shared his honest thoughts on what the next step looks like for the Steelers — and what it will take for the defense to become the very best in the NFL. "The constant," Heyward told reporters, via The Athletic's Mike DeFabo. "It can't be a roller coaster where we're riding our highs and going down our lows. I think to be the number one defense, it can't just be from Week 1 through Week 7. It's got to be a continued grind, and we've got to be, at the end of the season, playing our best football." In 2024, the Steelers defense looked the part early but took a nose dive to end the season — which clearly still resonates with Heyward. If this re-tooled unit can prevent a late-season collapse in 2025, there is little doubt — with the amount of talent acquired this offseason and already on the roster — that the Steelers could have the best defense in the NFL this year. Jets say Justin Fields is day-to-day with dislocated toe
The Jets got a scare from Justin Fields on Thursday, but they won't be without him for long. Fields left practice on a cart after getting hurt, but the Jets announced on Thursday afternoon that he is considered day-to-day and will not miss any significant time. Fields was diagnosed with a dislocated toe after being evaluated by doctors. The news leaves Fields on track to be the team's Week 1 starter. He will be facing his former team while the Steelers plan on starting Aaron Rodgers in the first game of his post-Jets career. Rodgers tore his Achilles a few snaps into his first start for the team in 2023 and news of Fields on a cart likely conjured up those memories for Jets fans when they first heard what happened. Tyrod Taylor led the Jets offense in Fields's absence on Thursday and the veteran is set to do the same should Fields run into any further issues during the 2025 season.
