The Telangana Police has been adjudged as one of the best performing Police and a well-deserved recipient of 'Certificate of Recognition' based on the Passport applications verification data for the financial year 2024-2025 in India by Ministry of External Affairs during the Passport Sewa Diwas and Passport officers conference at New Delhi.
The Telangana Police received 8,06,684 passport applications for financial year 2024-25 and successfully completed their verification within the stipulated time of below 15 days. It's pertinent to mention that average time for passport verification in Telangana is below 7 days against the stipulated time of 15 days.
Telangana Police has developed customized software named 'Satyaapan' and 'VeriFast' which automates the process of passport verification by using the face recognition and data matching technology to identify the passport applicant's criminal background, old passport applicants and duplicate passport seekers by matching the data from CCTNS, Passport application records and other databases. Telangana Police has been adjudged as one of the best performing states for six times since 2014 in expeditiously completing passport verification. This recognition by the Ministry of External Affairs is a testament to the department's commitment to excellence in public service. Telangana State has developed its own verification system to ensure that passport services will be provided to the public 1) Fool-proof verification, 2) Timely disposal of the applications and 3) Without any corruption.
Dr Jitender, DGP, Telangana appreciated all the unit officers in general and special branch officers and staff of every unit in particular for this achievement for clearing passport applications verification expeditiously and bringing accolades to Telangana Police.

The research wing of the State Bank of India (SBI) has warned that the Indian economy will suffer a staggering loss of one lakh crores if imports of dairy products from the US are allowed One cannot lag behind when it comes to appreciating the stand taken by the Indian government with regard to purchasing Russian crude oil at cheaper rates, despite the US threat. India is refining the crude oil and selling them to other countries through exports. However, it is supplying diesel, petrol and other petroleum products to people of India at cheaper rates to reduce the burden of rising prices of other essential commodities. This lust for profit without any concern towards the misery of the common people. Thanks to the Ministry of External Affairs, which is continuing longstanding traditional friendship with Russia right from the days of the erstwhile Soviet Union, which supported the newly independent India in times of distress. The Indian people cannot forget that while the country was fighting against the military junta of the then Pakistan in order to liberate Bangladesh from its clutches, the then Soviet Union sent submarines in support of the Indian army. The Soviet Union has extended its cooperation in building oil refineries in India. It has also sent many technicians to repair the oil refineries, as and when required. India continues to purchase crude oil from Russia and refining it and exporting to other countries. Now the US government has started pressuring India not to purchase crude oil from Russia. The same US administration had long back suggested that India must purchase crude oil from Russia. Why this dual policy? If it is opposing Russia, then why is it still importing Russian goods? They want India to purchase artificial infants' milk. The Indian dairy farmers, in fact the entire farmers community, refused to purchase enfamil from the USA. The future impact is a major concern for the Indian dairy sector and its dependent farmers. This will result in market disruption and adversely impact farmers' livelihoods. Right from the beginning, India has taken a stand to promote breast feeding and has strictly prohibited marketing of formula milk as a substitute for breastmilk. The Indian dairy industry is a major source of livelihood for millions of rural households, particularly women. This attitude of the USA is nothing but interfering with India's sovereignty. This approach is quite contrary to accepted norms of the World Trade Organisation. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should pass on the profits to the citizens by reducing prices of petroleum products, getting free from purchasing Russian crude oil, refining and exporting. The United States is still importing many items from Russia despite the trade war' continuation. Even after imposing high tariffs on Russian products, the USA is still importing uranium for its nuclear plants, palladium for manufacturing electric vehicles and fertilizers for agriculture and chemicals for pharmaceutical industries. The USA is also importing iron, steel, coal and many precious metals, which are playing a vital role in American industry overall. Washington continues to import many machinery parts of aircraft as well. Will it stop these imports after cautioning India against importing crude oil from Russia? The US is also threatening China, Turkey and other countries to stop import of Russian products within the next 50 days. But can the US stop importing materials from Russia? The Global Trade Research Initiative has categorically stated that the US approach towards India in regard to imports of Russian crude oil is most unjustified. But putting a ban on oil imports to US, will result in American consumers shelling more. (The writer is National Secretary of the CPI)

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi To Arrive In India Today For Key Talks With EAM Jaishankar, NSA Doval Amid Trump Tariffs
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will begin his two-day visit to India on Monday, where he will hold a crucial bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar. However, the Chinese Foreign Minister's visit also assumes significance in view of increasing tensions in India-US relations following President Donald Trump doubling tariffs on Indian goods to 50 per cent, which included an additional penalty of 25 per cent for purchasing Russian oil. India and China are expected to discuss new confidence-building measures for durable peace and tranquillity along their contested border during Wang Yi's visit, which comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's China trip later this month. The Chinese Foreign Minister's visit is largely seen as part of ongoing efforts by the two neighbours to rebuild their relationship after it came under severe strain following the deadly Galwan Valley clashes in 2020. Wang Yi will be in India primarily to hold a fresh round of Special Representatives (SR) dialogue on the boundary question with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Wang and Doval are the designated special representatives for the boundary talks. The Chinese Foreign Minister will arrive in New Delhi at around 4:15 p.m. on Monday. At 6 p.m., he will meet EAM Jaishankar for bilateral discussions. On Tuesday morning, Wang Yi is scheduled to hold a new round of the Special Representatives (SR) dialogue with NSA Doval at 11 a.m. The meetings could see both sides deliberate on a range of key issues, including the border situation, trade and resumption of flight services. The Chinese Minister will then call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The meeting assumes significance as it is taking place days before PM Modi's planned trip to China to attend the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). Though the two sides disengaged troops from the friction points, they are yet to de-escalate the situation by pulling back the frontline forces from the border. Each side currently has around 50,000 to 60,000 troops along the LAC in the eastern Ladakh region. As per the plan, Prime Minister Modi will visit Japan around August 29 and then travel to the northern Chinese city of Tianjin for the SCO summit. NSA Doval travelled to China in December last year and held the SR talks with Wang Yi, weeks after Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping decided to revive various dialogue mechanisms between the two sides at a meeting in the Russian city of Kazan. The military standoff in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020 and the clashes at the Galwan Valley in June that year resulted in a severe strain in bilateral ties. The decision to revive various dialogue mechanisms was taken at a meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi in Kazan on October 23, 2024. The two sides also initiated several initiatives to rebuild ties, including the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and New Delhi restarting the issuance of tourist visas to Chinese nationals. Both sides are also discussing modalities to resume direct flight services between the two countries. The flight services between the two sides were suspended following the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. It was not restored in view of the border row. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and EAM Jaishankar visited China in the last two months to attend the SCO meetings.
