Wisconsin women's basketball coach announces resignation

Yahoo10-03-2025

Wisconsin women's basketball head coach Marisa Moseley resigned from her position on Sunday, according to a press release from the program. Assistant coach Margaret McKeon will assume interim head coaching duties.
"I notified Chris McIntosh of my decision to resign for personal reasons," Moseley said in a statement. "It has been a privilege to lead the program at Wisconsin. I am grateful for the student-athletes, coaches and staff in our program who have put in so much time and effort. I am appreciative, also, of the Badger fans who supported us at the Kohl Center and around the country."
The news arrives on the heels of Wisconsin's season-ending defeat to the Iowa Hawkeyes on March 5 in the Big Ten Tournament. The loss concluded a season during which the Badgers went 13-17 overall and 4-14 in Big Ten play, a regression from the 15-17 season Moseley's team enjoyed in 2023-24.
After being hired by Wisconsin in March of 2021, Moseley accumulated a 47-75 overall record and 21-51 mark in Big Ten play. Her 2023-24 squad, campaigned by star forward Serah Williams, advanced to the 2024 WNIT quarterfinals in the program's first postseason berth in nearly 15 years.
Moseley inherited a team that went 5-19 the season before her arrival. Wisconsin increased its win total in each of Moseley's first three seasons, before a step back in 2024-25.

The Badgers did secure at least six conference wins during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons for the first time in over a decade. However, the program's inability to overcome a crowded top portion of the Big Ten proved detrimental in each of Moseley's seasons with the program. The team couldn't get over the hump against the conference's top competition.
Before arriving in Madison, Wisconsin, Moseley was the 2019 Patriot League Coach of the Year at Boston University. Before that, she won five national titles in nine seasons as an assistant coach with the UConn Huskies under Geno Auriemma.
With star forward Serah Williams entering her senior year, Wisconsin will now direct its efforts to a national coaching search. The program's last winning season was in 2009-10 under head coach Lisa Stone.

On June 12, the right-handed Misiorowski, 23, dazzled in a five-inning, no-hit start for the Brewers, Misiorowski got the win, as the Brewers defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, in a 6-0 shutout victory. In his first ever MLB start, Misiorowski threw 81 pitches, 41 for strikes. He walked four, and struck out five. Misiorowski was forced to leave the game when his foot landed awkwardly on the front of the mound. The medical staff checked on Misiorowski, and it was determined he should be removed from the game. stated 'The Brewers said Misiorowski left due to cramping in his right calf and quadriceps. Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy indicated Misiorowski may have turned an ankle, but said he was 'all good.' The Brewers bullpen shut out the Cardinals from the sixth inning on, preserving the victory for Misiorowski. 'He was impressive every way you look at it,' Murphy said. 'I think he was super nervous before the game, and that's to be expected, but I think he handled it really, really well.' (AP Photo/Carolyn Kaster) Any discussion of Misiorowski has to begin with his massive, 6-7, 197 pound frame. Very long, and lean, Misiorowski pitches exclusively from the stretch. Misiorowski grew up in Grain Valley, Missouri, where he pitched for Grain Valley High School. In his junior year, Misiorowski had a recored of 9-2, with a 1.48 ERA. He was named an All State performer. Misiorowski's senior season was canceled due to COVID-19. Originally slated to play baseball at Oklahoma State University, Misiorowski changed plans, and instead attended Crowder College. In 2022, Misiorowski was a 2nd round selection of the Brewers, out of Crowder (Mo.) Junior College. Misiorowski received a $2.35 million signing bonus from the Brewers, which was the highest bonus given by the Brewers to their 2022 draft class. Misiorowski spent parts of four seasons in the Brewers minor league development program. At the time of his graduation to the parent club, Misorowski had thrown 233.2 innings, with 55 starts in 68 games pitched. At the time he was promoted to the big league club, Misiorowski was pitching at Triple-A Nashville. He had compiled a 4-2 record, with a sparkling 2.3 ERA, and 1.08 WHIP in 13 games. He started twelve of those games. While Misiorowski has spent development time working out of the bullpen, the Brewers are now using him as part of their starting rotation. Baseball America feels Misiorowski has the potential to be the Brewers No. 1 starter. The ace of their club. Misiorowski certainly verified those lofty expectations in his debut. More first MLB strikeout against the St. Louis Cardinals during the second inning of his MLB debut at American Family Field on June 12, 2025 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (Photo by) Any hitter has to be intimated by a 6-7 pitcher, who throws his fastball up to 103 miles per hour. That's Misiorowski. In his Brewers debut, indicated Misiorowski was hitting 99 miles with regularity on his four-seam fastball. He threw his slider at 94 miles per hour, his curve at 87 miles per hour, and his changeup at 91 miles per hour. In his debut, stated he used his four-seamer 54.7% of the time. His curve was used 21.23%, his slider 19.86%, and his changeup 4.11% of the time. Misiorowski has a strong arm, and usually throws from a relatively low arm slot. He has an outstanding 7.4 feet of extension. With his height, the ball is on the hitter…right now. There are times Misiorowski's height and long limbs make it difficult for him to repeat his delivery. If he gets out of sync, his command suffers. Consistent command and control could be demons for Misiorowski. He has had issues walking hitters, and that was evident with four walks in his first big league start.' Clearly, Misiorowski has the fastball velocity, and three other quality pitches to induce strikeouts at the big league level. In his minor league career, Misiorowski struck out an average of 12.3 hitters per nine innings. A woman light up candles making the number 60 during Earth Hour in Malang in eastern Java island on ... AFP PHOTO / Aman ROCHMAN (Photo by AMAN ROCHMAN / AFP) (Photo by AMAN ROCHMAN/AFP via Getty Images) This old scout feels Misiorowski can be an occasional All Star quality pitcher. He has a good feel for pitching, and a quality repertoire that will serve him well. It may take time for Misiorowski to iron out some wrinkles in his command and control, but he just turned 23-years-old April 3. Conclusions: Jacob Misiorowski is the real deal. He can throw high velocity heat, and mix in quality secondary pitches from an enormous 6-7 frame. Hitters will be off-balance, and he will continue to change their eye level with a dazzling array of pitches. The Brewers may have found an 'ace' in the second round of the 2022 draft. Another quick note: After his debut start, Misiorowski has changed his uniform number from 33 to 32.

Spartans listed as new favorite to beat out Wisconsin for priority 3-star WR prospect

Spartans listed as new favorite to beat out Wisconsin for priority 3-star WR prospect It's a battle between Michigan State and Wisconsin for a notable wide receiver prospect right now, and it appears things may be swaying in the Spartans' favor all of a sudden. A few weeks ago it looked like three-star wide receiver Zachary Washington was heading to Madison, Wisc. to continue his football career, but the latest intel from On3 suggests things may have shifted in the Spartans' favor. While Washington -- who hails from Wheaton, Ill. -- still has crystal ball predictions in favor of Wisconsin on 247Sports from last week, the Spartans are now listed as the clear-cut favorite to land his commitment on competitor recruiting site On3. On On3, Michigan State currently holds an 85% chance to land his commitment, while Wisconsin is only at 8% and West Virginia at 3%. Washington is a three-star prospect with an 87 recruiting rating on 247Sports. He ranks as the No. 111 wide receiver in the class and No. 883 overall prospect in the country. He is considered one of the top priorities at wide receiver for the Spartans in the 2026 class. Michigan State hosted Washington for an official visit last weekend, which came one week after he visited Wisconsin. He will reportedly take an official visit to West Virginia this weekend as well. There is no known commitment date for Washington at this time, but it sounds like these are the three teams he is focused on within his recruiting. So with all three official visits completed after this weekend, we could certainly see a college announcement coming in the next few weeks. Michigan State has been hot on the recruiting trail lately with eight commits since the start of June. The Spartans have seen their class move up the charts thanks to this latest flurry with Michigan State now ranking No. 34 nationally at the posting of this article. The addition of Washington to this class would only further this surge from the Spartans on the recruiting trail.
