Spartans listed as new favorite to beat out Wisconsin for priority 3-star WR prospect
It's a battle between Michigan State and Wisconsin for a notable wide receiver prospect right now, and it appears things may be swaying in the Spartans' favor all of a sudden.
A few weeks ago it looked like three-star wide receiver Zachary Washington was heading to Madison, Wisc. to continue his football career, but the latest intel from On3 suggests things may have shifted in the Spartans' favor. While Washington -- who hails from Wheaton, Ill. -- still has crystal ball predictions in favor of Wisconsin on 247Sports from last week, the Spartans are now listed as the clear-cut favorite to land his commitment on competitor recruiting site On3. On On3, Michigan State currently holds an 85% chance to land his commitment, while Wisconsin is only at 8% and West Virginia at 3%.
Washington is a three-star prospect with an 87 recruiting rating on 247Sports. He ranks as the No. 111 wide receiver in the class and No. 883 overall prospect in the country. He is considered one of the top priorities at wide receiver for the Spartans in the 2026 class.
Michigan State hosted Washington for an official visit last weekend, which came one week after he visited Wisconsin. He will reportedly take an official visit to West Virginia this weekend as well. There is no known commitment date for Washington at this time, but it sounds like these are the three teams he is focused on within his recruiting. So with all three official visits completed after this weekend, we could certainly see a college announcement coming in the next few weeks.
Michigan State has been hot on the recruiting trail lately with eight commits since the start of June. The Spartans have seen their class move up the charts thanks to this latest flurry with Michigan State now ranking No. 34 nationally at the posting of this article. The addition of Washington to this class would only further this surge from the Spartans on the recruiting trail.

Bibee gave up two runs and four hits in five innings. But the Guardians scored the game's next three runs, including a solo home run by José Ramírez in the fifth, which increased his career-long on-base streak to 39 games, the longest active on-base streak in the majors. Those offensive contributions weren't enough to keep the Mariners from coming back, though, and Jackson Kowar (1-0) from earning his first victory of the season with a perfect ninth. Key moment Advertisement Dominic Canzone led off the bottom of the ninth with a single, and pinch runner Dylan Moore stole second base. Moore advanced to third on a textbook sacrifice bunt by Cole Young, then Moore scored with ease on Clase's wild pitch. Key stat Seattle starter George Kirby's streak of 68 consecutive starts walking two or few batters was snapped on Saturday with three walks. It is the third-longest streak in major league history, trailing only right-handers Carlos Silva and Cy Young. Up next RHP Emerson Hancock (2-2, 5.04 ERA) will start for the Mariners on Sunday. RHP Luis Ortiz (3-7, 4.26) will start for the Guardians in the final game of the three-game set. ___ AP MLB:

USC women finish second to Georgia at NCAA outdoor track and field championships
EUGENE, Ore. — Buoyed by top performances in the hammer throw, high jump and 400 meters, the Georgia women's track and field squad distanced itself from the opposition and cruised to its first outdoor national championship in team history. Georgia lapped the field with 73 points ahead of runners-up USC (47) and third place Texas A&M (43). Fourth-year Bulldogs coach Caryl Smith Gilbert also won national titles at USC in 2018 and 2021. Olympic gold medalist Aaliyah Butler and Dejanea Oakley took the first two spots in the 400 meters with Butler posting a 49.26 and Oakley a 49.65. Butler's time was the fifth best all-time for a collegian and Oakley was eighth. The Bulldogs expanded their lead when Elena Kulichenko won the high jump for the second straight year after tying for the title last year. The Odessa, Russia, native won with a jump of 6 feet, 5 inches. Michelle Smith, a freshman, finished third in the 400 meter hurdles at 55.20 to clinch the team title. Skylynn Townsend took sixth in the triple jump at 44-4¼. Georgia ended the night by finishing first in the 4x400-meter relay with Butler taking the lead in the final leg with a winning time of 3:23.62. The Bulldogs entered Saturday competition in the lead with 26 points after Stephanie Ratcliffe won the hammer throw on Thursday with a nation-leading distance of 234 feet, 2 inches. Washington and USC shared the lead earlier Saturday night after Washington's Sophie O'Sullivan won the 1,500 meters and USC's Samirah Moody won the 100, but Georgia got 18 points from Butler and Oakley and never looked back. USC also won the 4x100-meter relay at 42.22. Georgia also got points in the javelin with a second-place finish from freshman Manuela Rotundo and a fourth-place finish from Lianna Davidson. Senior Keslie Murrell-Ross finished sixth in the shot put.
