Atlético de Madrid vs Botafogo predictions, odds and betting tips
ATLÉTICO Madrid meets Botafogo on Monday at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, in a crucial Group B showdown at the FIFA Club World Cup. Botafogo top the group with six points and only need a draw to clinch progression. It's a bit more complicated for Atlético, who are relying on results elsewhere, and may need PSG to slip up to get through. Atlético Madrid vs Botafogo odds Find the latest football betting odds for Atlético Madrid vs Botafogo here. Our odds are provided by our recommended football betting sites and are subject to change. Atlético Madrid vs Botafogo predictions Botafogo set the cat amongst the pigeons with their 1-0 win over PSG in their second match of Group B. The result - coupled with Atletico's 3-1 win over Seattle - means there are now three teams in with a chance of topping the table. PSG are the favourites at 10/11, with Botafogo - the current leaders - second in the betting at even money. Atletico are the outsiders to win the group at 10/1. The main reason for Atletico's long price is down to their opening match. Diego Simeone's team were dismantled 4‑0 by PSG at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, comfortably outplayed by the French Champions League winners. Los Rojiblancos bounced back strongly in their second match against Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field. 22‑year‑old Pablo Barrios netted a brace and Axel Witsel was also on the scoresheet in a 3‑1 win, which got the Spaniards back in the mix to qualify for the Round of 16. Barrios's performance not only steadied Atlético but also revived their hopes of a guaranteed knockout spot. It also dealt a blow to Seattle, whose campaign is now effectively over after two defeats. Meanwhile, Botafogo has been the surprise story of the group. After a 2‑1 win over Seattle in their opener, they stunned reigning Champions League winners PSG in Pasadena with a disciplined 1‑0 victory in their second outing - Igor Jesus scored the winning goal midway through the first half. Their defensive rigidity and solid midfield block impressed PSG boss Luis Enrique, who claimed it was a defensive performance up there among the best he has seen this season. The Brazilians 1-0 win catapulted them to the top of Group B with six points, meaning a draw against Atlético on Monday will seal their place in the knockout round - no matter what happens elsewhere. Atlético Madrid vs Botafogo betting tips Atlético Madrid are the favourites with the bookmakers to win the match and bring an end to Botafogo's winning run at the FIFA Club World Cup. But, as we've already seen in this competition, underestimating the South Americans comes with risk. Our Atlético vs Botafogo betting tips follow: Botafogo to win or draw Botafogo only need a draw to progress and have already beaten PSG with a disciplined, compact setup. The win over PSG will give the South Americans plenty of self belief, and they can take momentum into their showdown with Atlético. Diego Simeone's team must push for goals. This could leave Atlético open at the back, and as we've just witnessed, Botafogo can see a match out when they get in front. A cagey game suits Botafogo - and we can see them preventing the Spaniards from getting the win they desperately need. Both teams to score Atlético know they have to go for it - only a win will give them the best chance of progressing. But with Botafogo dangerous on the counter, Simeone's side can't afford to throw caution to the wind too early. There's every chance the game could open up after the break, which brings the 'half with most goals" market into play - the second half is currently the favourite at 21/20. However, we're swerving that and instead backing both teams to score. It offers more flexibility if goals are tight or spread evenly across both halves. Pablo Barrios to score anytime Pablo Barrios had a night to remember against Seattle at Lumen Field last Thursday. The 22-year-old midfielder was Atlético's standout performer, scoring twice in their 3‑1 win over the Sounders. With Diego Simeone again relying on attacking contributions from midfield against Botafogo, Barrios presents solid value, particularly if the Brazilians sit deep, which should invite long-range efforts from outside the box. Buoyed by his recent brace, Barrios will be full of confidence. He's priced at 19/1 to score first and 17/2 to score anytime. At those odds, the safer anytime option still offers excellent value if he adds to his goal tally. Location: Rose Bowl, Pasadena, California, USA. Date and time: Monday 23rd June, 8pm BST. Managing Arsenal as Sesko vs Gyokeres call made and deal finally gets done
Arsenal are yet to land the striker they so crave with Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko both on their radar whilst their long-term interest in Martin Zubimendi has not yet come to fruition For a team who know what they need to get Arsenal aren't inspiring confidence with their get up and go so far this summer. By no means panic stations yet, time is on their side after all. But those who attend the Emirates will be watching Liverpool spend British-record sums and Manchester City land numerous creative stars and wonder when they will make their own statement of intent. It has been a case of close but no cigar in the Premier League title races over the past three years. Last season was actually Mikel Arteta's worst effort yet since making Arsenal contenders again and if he wants to take the final step the answer is quite clear: sign a striker. Arsenal have bolstered almost every area of their squad in recent years, but not the engine room of their attack. When Gabriel Jesus signed three years ago people made it clear that whilst he would offer a lot, scoring 20 goals a year was not his modus operandi. That has proved to be true. And so back to the market the Gunners go. It looks as if it is one from two with Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres identified - the former their preferred option. Negotiations though have hit a roadblock and Arsenal could do without a summer-long saga that centres on wage demands. Beyond anything else, the optics are not great. Arsenal could really have done with a smooth, swift signing of a prolific frontman. Ticking that box and allowing them to plan for pre-season knowing that possibly the final piece of the jigsaw was in the building. Instead they remain in dialogue with Sesko, whose demands could scupper the deal. That would leave them eyeing Gyokeres, who would know deep down he was the club's second choice. It all gets a bit messy. Back the Sporting man Arsenal have obviously seen something in Sesko that makes him more attractive. Likely his age profile - he is five years younger than Gyokeres. Strikers though often blossom with age, worth remembering. Given the choice I'd also say the Sporting Lisbon man makes more sense as a signing. His goal record dwarfs what Sesko has been able to achieve thus far. The RB Leipzig man just broke the 20-goal barrier for the first time this year, scoring 21 in total. Gyokeres has scored 97 in his two years. Although the argument can be made that the Swede is playing in a perceived easier league. But he's also shown what he can do on the Champions League stage and scored six in this year's competition, including a hat-trick against Manchester City. With Sesko there might be more potential but there are also more unknowns. Zubimendi drags on It is a theme Arsenal could do without, but another of their long-term targets in Martin Zubimendi was tipped to join weeks ago. Mirror Football reported that the deal was close after the numbers were agreed on, leaving only a medical before the transfer could be completed. Here we are almost a month on and he's still not at the Emirates. The Real Sociedad star showed himself to be a complete midfielder during last summer's Euros, deputising impressively for Rodri. He would add more class to the Arsenal engine room and potentially prove a quality replacement for Thomas Partey. His contract is winding down and no new deal has yet been agreed, but he could yet remain, giving Arteta even more options. Real Madrid, now led by Sociedad legend Xabi Alonso, were tipped to make a late effort to sign Zubimendi ahead of Arsenal. That looks to have been avoided with reports a medical was completed last week, but the wait for an announcement continues. Another of his Spanish team-mates in Nico Williams looks to have rejected the possibility of a move to Arsenal to remain in his homeland. Barcelona are edging closer to a deal. Adding quality on the flanks would be welcome, but when Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are on form they remain deadly. That is before you allow for the continued emergence of Ethan Nwaneri and the trusted quality you get from Leandro Trossard. Arsenal's wide forwards will also look immensely different with a major No 9 playing in between them, potentially stretching defences in a way they haven't been when Kai Havertz plays as a false 9. So again, it all rests on getting that striker through the door. Defence set - but hampers business One area where Arteta can rest easy is his backline. The two centre-halves pick themselves with William Saliba and Gabriel forming one of Europe's best partnerships. Ben White is a Rolls Royce of a defender, Myles Lewis-Skelly gets better and better whilst Jurrien Timber's flexibility is a huge plus. Their quality has created some issues in that defenders at other clubs look at the backline and question where their minutes are coming from. It is understood that Marc Guehi would prefer a move to Liverpool over Arsenal amid concerns he wouldn't be able to break up the Saliba-Gabriel partnership. But if you're ever going to have players turn you down, doing so because your XI is so strong, it is about as good a reason as any. Marcus Rashford responds as Man Utd team-mate pictured in Aston Villa shirt
Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are both expected to leave Manchester United this summer and the pair have been linked with a host of clubs across Europe Marcus Rashford has branded Alejandro Garnacho"my brother" after the Manchester United star shared a photo of himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt with his name and number on it. Both Garnacho and Rashford are expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, with neither player part of Ruben Amorim's plans. Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa after he was frozen out by Amorim, while Garnacho was told to find a new club after publicly voicing his frustration at being left out of the starting line-up for the Europa League final. And Garnacho has raised eyebrows after he shared a series of snaps from his holiday to Ibiza, including one where he is wearing a Villa shirt with 'Rashford 9' on the back. Rashford also commented on the post, simply writing "My brother" followed by a love heart emoji. According to BBC Sport, sources close to Garnacho have claimed that the post is 'merely a supportive one of his team-mate'. It comes after reports claimed that both Rashford and Garnacho are set to be left out of United's pre-season squad if they have not been sold before their trip to the US in July. Rashford recently spoke out about his future in an interview with Spanish influencer Javi Ruiz, admitting that he would like to play alongside Lamine Yamal at Barcelona. When asked about the prospect of being teammates with Yamal, Rashford replied: "Yeah, sure. "Everybody in the world wants to play with the best. So hopefully, we'll see. (Yamal) is gonna be… it's difficult to put into words what he's doing because he's not supposed to be doing it at 16, 17. "He's playing at the highest level, I don't think we've seen it. To have his mentality is a skill. He's not normal to be doing what he does and he will keep improving. (The Ballon d'Or) If you look at it in football ability he has to win, but then you look at Ousmane Dembele, the Champions League. "Spain is nice, it's not too far from home. If I'm training over a long period, my family can come for a few days, it's a nice location and good weather." And Barcelona's sporting director Deco has previously admitted that the club is interested in Rashford, telling Catalan radio station RAC 1 in May: "We like Luis [Diaz], we like Rashford, and we like other players. "Out of respect, talking about players who are under contract with other clubs is complicated. When we go to the market, there are names we know that could improve the team."
