Animal lover nursed orphaned baby deer back to health...then Louisiana wildlife officials turned up and EUTHANIZED it
Kimberly Graham, 63, of Greenburg, near Baton Rouge, rescued an injured fawn her granddaughter named BabyBelle after receiving an urgent call on July 27, she revealed in a Facebook post.
She gave the small white-tailed animal fluids and bottle-fed it after it had been wandering around injured for two days.
Four days into her caring for the fawn, the Louisiana Department Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) showed up after receiving a tip from someone who reportedly spotted the deer wearing a 'hunter's orange collar' around its neck.
They stated that Graham was running an illegal deer rehabilitation center at her home, according to the report, which was viewed by WBRZ.
After packing the baby deer up in a cat carrier, officials allegedly euthanized BabyBelle just 20 minutes later.
'He just outright said: "The deer was euthanized 20 minutes after leaving your house,"' she told the outlet.
'They allowed me to glove my hands, feed her a bottle and potty her before putting her in a cat kennel to take her off.'
Graham had been hopeful the fawn would survive and be released back into the wild, as BabyBelle had made significant strides in just the four days in her care.
'In a moment of crisis, I did what I was trained to do and save a helpless, tiny life. I fought hard for her, administering drugs I use on my horses. My fight wasn't enough and she was destroyed by gunfire,' she claimed on Facebook.
She called the incident 'incredibly cruel.'
LDWF denied shooting the animal, but did not publicly release its method of euthanasia for BabyBelle.
The LDWF report did say the animal was euthanized because she had spent too much time in captivity away from her mother and would be unable to survive on her own.
State Representative Lauren Ventrella, who is also an attorney, is now representing Graham and they are hoping to reach an amicable resolution.
They are calling for an oversight hearing to help change the process at a legislative level.
'You have to look at the humanity of the situation of what is right and what is just,' Ventrella said.
'We know what the law says, but we have to utilize some common sense and what is best for the people.'
LDWF, however, said: 'Spotted fawns are especially vulnerable, so they are afforded heightened protection from private possession under the law.
'When we find illegally possessed captive wildlife, we make every effort to return them safely and humanely to their natural habitat.
'As part of that mission, LDWF enforces laws set by the legislature to keep wildlife wild and protected in its native habitat.'

Seagull is kicked to death after stealing fish from customer outside a chippy
A seagull which swooped on an unsuspecting customer at a fish and chip shop was brutally kicked to death. The herring gull stole its supper from a takeaway at Marine Parade in Barmouth, Wales at around 1pm on August 4. It was then attacked and kicked by the angry customer before later dying from its injuries, the RSPCA said. The charity has released a picture of a man with curly hair and a black jacket who they would like to speak to, Metro reported. They are asking for any witnesses to come forward. Julia Dalgleish, RSPCA animal rescue officer, said: 'Gulls and their nests are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, it is illegal to do anything that causes suffering to gulls. 'Sadly, many people have an unfavourable opinion of gulls – but these are intelligent animals who form strong social bonds with.' It comes after baby seagulls were killed with an umbrella on the roof of a shopping centre in Bath. A CCTV image was released of a man in connection with the incident last month. A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: 'We are appealing for help to identify the man in this CCTV image who we would like to speak to in connection with reported attacks on seagulls in Bath city centre. 'A man was reported for attacking and killing baby seagulls with an umbrella on the roof of the Corridor shopping centre at around 4.50pm on Tuesday 15 July. 'We would like to speak to a man who is described as black, middle aged, of slim build, and who was wearing a checked shirt and carrying a blue bag at the time of the incident. 'If anybody has any information about the incident, or who may know who this man is, is asked to contact us.' In Liverpool a baby seagull was also found dead in the city centre on July 1. The RSPCA received footage of a man who allegedly smashed the bird's head against a rubbish bin, before throwing it inside. The charity described the footage as 'distressing'. It claimed the baby gull, which could not fly away, was picked up from the pavement before being hit with some force on the bin. A footage was released of a man in connection with the death of the gull. Louise Showering, an inspector for the RSPCA who is leading the investigation, said: 'We've received upsetting footage of a juvenile gull, who was unable to fly, allegedly being picked up from the pavement and hit with some force against a bin in Liverpool. The bird was later retrieved from inside but had sadly died.'

Trump's National Guard takeover of DC gets trolled: ‘Did they bust somebody for pairing Chardonnay with a steak?'
Night two of Donald Trump's takeover of the District of Columbia was met with a fair share of social media mockery from some residents of Washington, D.C., who took to Reddit, Twitter and other social media sites to vent. While videos and photos of agents patroling the cities swankiest (and safest) areas drew much of the attention, one video circulated on a pair of D.C. subreddits over Monday and Tuesday evening showed a group of armed federal agents confronting a group of younger Black men as they were hanging out on the porch of one the young men's homes. The agents in the video confront the group over alleged marijuana smoking — which is legal under D.C. law but only when inside a private residence. 'Tell your be smoking outside, don't be drinking outside. Because Donald Trump is tired of it,' one U.S. Park Police officer tells the group says in the video. One of the men replied, 'My favorite part is that 'Donald Trump doesn't like to see it'. 'Well, I'm not particularly fond of gauche amounts of gold or overweight people wearing skin-tight golf wear. So we're even I suppose,' he snarked. On Monday, the president announced at a White House press conference that he was deploying D.C.'s detachment of the National Guard and taking over control of D.C.'s Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) from city leaders, citing crime that he and his officials claim is out of control in the District. City leaders deny this. Photos and images of agents in the wealthy neighborhood of Georgetown and down by the wharf area drew some of the most intense heckling. 'Georgetown? Did they bust somebody for pairing Chardonnay with a steak?' wrote Robbie Sherwood, communications director for the Arizona House Democrats, on X. 'They ain't gonna find anyone but a millionaire walking their Shih Tzu,' another DC denizen tweeted. 'I still travel to DC, about 6 times a year, meeting friends for dinner in Georgetown is par for the course- and always enjoyable. Taking DEA/FBI agents off drug/CI/white collar cases, etc. for performative B.S. is an obscenity,' Luis Moreno, a former U.S. ambassador to Jamaica, tweeted. Reason reporter Billy Binion pointed out: 'This is laughable. There has been *one* violent crime reported in Georgetown since January. Arrests on the first night of Trump's semi-federalization of DC totaled under three dozen, compared to the hundreds of officers and agents deployed around the city. That disproportionate ratio could swing further out of whack once the full deployment of DC's National Guard detachment is carried out. Little sympathy emerged online for Mayor Muriel Bowser, a Democrat who continues to tread a fine line between pushing back against Trump and Republicans' criticism of her administration and leadership of the city and a desire to not provoke further repudiation from the federal government. As many residents aimed their insults at the White House and the geared-up agents strolling along the Georgetown waterfront, a few remarked that the Democratic mayor had seemingly 'abandoned' the city to its fate. Bowser, at a meeting Tuesday, took a slightly stronger tone as she warned residents and businesses. 'This is a time where community needs to jump in and we all need to, to do what we can in our space, in our lane, to protect our city and to protect our autonomy, to protect our Home Rule, and get to the other side of this guy, and make sure we elect a Democratic House so that we have a backstop to this authoritarian push,' she said.

Melania Trump makes bombshell $1 billion threat against Hunter Biden after 'inflammatory' Epstein comments
First lady Melania Trump is threatening to sue Hunter Biden for $1 billion over false and defamatory claims that she was introduced to President Donald Trump by serial pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. The younger Biden repeated the false claims made by author Michael Wolff during a follow-up interview with YouTuber Andrew Callaghan on August 5. 'Given your vast history of trading on the names of others-including your surname-for your personal benefit, it is obvious that you published these false and defamatory statements about Mrs. Trump to draw attention to yourself,' the first lady's lawyers wrote in a letter to Biden and his lawyer, first obtained by Fox News. This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
