Iran urges US nuclear watchdog to drop 'double standards'
President Masoud Pezeshkian last week enacted a law suspending cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the IAEA said it had pulled its last remaining inspectors out of Iran.
Relations between Iran and the IAEA have worsened since the United States and Israel bombed Iranian nuclear facilities in June, saying they wanted to prevent Tehran developing an atomic weapon. Iran says its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes only and denies seeking atomic weapons.
"The continuation of Iran's cooperation with the agency (IAEA) depends of the latter correcting its double standards regarding the nuclear file," state media quoted Pezeshkian as telling European Council President Antonio Costa by phone.
"Any repeated aggression (against Iran) will be met with a more decisive and regrettable response," he said.
Tehran accuses the IAEA of failing to condemn the attacks by the United States and Israel, and says the nuclear watchdog paved the way for the bombing by issuing a resolution declaring Iran in breach of its non-proliferation obligations.
The bombing of Iran's nuclear facilities led to a 12-day war, during which Iran launched drones and missiles at Israel.

'The government of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam committed a grave sin by taking a decision to strip Lebanon of its weapons to resist the Israeli enemy... This decision fully serves Israel's interest,' the group said. The statement said Shi'ite ministers walked out of the Lebanese Cabinet session before the decision was reached as 'an expression of the resistance's (Hezbollah's) rejection of this decision'. Apple to pledge $100 billion for US manufacturing, White House official says
WASHINGTON :Apple Inc will announce a domestic manufacturing pledge of $100 billion on Wednesday that will focus on bringing more manufacturing to the United States, a White House official said. The pledge would be a new financial commitment, the official said on the customary condition of anonymity. It comes as President Donald Trump pursues an aggressive tariff and trade agenda aimed at moving some manufacturing back into the United States. Apple said in February it would spend $500 billion in U.S. investments in the next four years that will include a giant factory in Texas for artificial intelligence servers while adding about 20,000 research and development jobs across the country. Apple did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Trump's tariffs cost Apple $800 million in the June quarter and spurred some customers to buy iPhones in late spring this year. Apple has been shifting production of products bound for the U.S., sourcing iPhones from India and other products such as Macs and Apple Watches from Vietnam. The ultimate tariff rates many Apple products could face remain in flux, and many of its products are currently exempt. "Today's announcement with Apple is another win for our manufacturing industry that will simultaneously help reshore the production of critical components to protect America's economic and national security," White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said in a statement. The previously announced $500 billion in expected spending from Apple includes everything from purchases from U.S. suppliers to U.S. filming of television shows and movies for its Apple TV+ service. Earlier, White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett told Fox Business Network Apple was likely to make an investment announcement on Wednesday, as he discussed the financial pledges made by companies and countries under Trump.

Trump suggests Vance 'most likely' Republican pick for 2028
WASHINGTON: United States President Donald Trump suggested on Tuesday (Aug 5) that Vice President JD Vance is "most likely" to secure the Republican party nomination for president in 2028. Trump has avoided naming a preferred successor and said in February that, while Vance was "very capable," it was too soon to make such calls. Asked on Tuesday whether Vance was the heir-apparent to his Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement, Trump told reporters: "Well, I think most likely". "In all fairness, he's the vice president," he said. The remarks followed speculation that Trump might attempt to defy constitutional limits and seek a third term. "It's too early, obviously, to talk about it, but certainly he's doing a great job," Trump said. "And he would be probably favoured at this point." Trump also floated the idea of Vance teaming up with Secretary of State Marco Rubio to create a formidable Republican ticket. "I think Marco is also somebody that maybe would get together with JD in some form," Trump said. Trump has suggested serving another term several times, despite the US Constitution limiting presidents to two terms.
