Peter Lovenkrands on why he left Rangers for Schalke
The Danish footballer, who was a fan favourite at Ibrox, left for Schalke on a free transfer in 2006.
He had just finished a successful season, scoring 18 goals, including four in the Champions League.
Despite his impressive performance, Lovenkrands said he was given no indication that he was wanted at the club.
He said on Open Goal: "When I was leaving, I got a phone call.
"David Murray brings me up to the office and basically says, 'Le Guen is on the phone, wants to talk to you'.

"And I went, 'right, okay'.
"So I've got the phone, and he basically said to me, 'if you stay, great, if you don't, I'll just get someone else'.
"And I'll never forget that sentence.
"It was like, 'I've just scored four goals in the Champions League, 18 goals in the season, and you don't want me to stay?
"There was no 'we want you to stay', or whatever, to try and convince you to stay.
"It was literally like a hit in the stomach.
"If you stay - great. If you don't - I'll just get someone else" @lovenkrands11 on the conversation with incoming @RangersFC Manager Paul Le Guen that decided his exit from Ibrox.

"It was like 'okay, I don't like this.
"It doesn't need to sound like he wants me to stay'."
Lovenkrands revealed that even after agreeing a deal with Schalke, he gave ex-chief executive Martin Bain a chance to make him stay.
However, he claimed he was stonewalled again.
The Dane said: "I agreed the deal but I had to go and do my medical.
"Went across to the hospital, done my medical.
"On my way back from the medical to sign the deal, I phoned Martin Bain and said 'That's me just done my medical at Schalke, I'm away to sign the deal.
"Is there anything you want to say to me?
"He was like 'good luck'.
"If he'd said 'we'll match it' or 'we'll offer you this', I would have went straight on the plane back.
"But he just said 'good luck' and that was it."
During his time at Rangers, the left-footed attacker, who could play wide or centrally, was a big favourite at the club and scored several important goals.

Christian Norgaard set for Arsenal medical as Mikel Arteta seals double swoop
Arsenal are yet to make a signing this summer but they have now two deals in the pipeline with an agreement for Real Sociedad playmaker Martin Zubimendi also in place Christian Norgaard is on the brink of completing a dream transfer to Arsenal after being given the the green light to undergo a medical by Brentford. Mirror Football revealed last week that Norgaard, 31, was on the Gunners' radar as part of an overhaul of their engine room. And with Thomas Partey poised to follow Jorginho out of The Emirates as a free agent, Arsenal have moved quickly to raid their London neighbours for Norgaard. The Dane was the subject of a £9.3million bid on Wednesday morning, which was promptly rebuffed by Brentford. But talks continued throughout the day and an agreement for the Bees captain to join Arsenal has now been reached, as per BBC Sport. Norgaard will shortly undergo a medical before finalising his switch ahead of Arsenal's return to pre-season - and he will not be the only new face at London Colney. Arsenal are also poised to trigger the £5m release clause in Kepa Arrizabalaga 's contract after missing out on a deal for Joan Garcia. And the Chelsea goalkeeper is also poised to undergo medical checks before putting pen to paper on a deal to swap the Blues for Arsenal, joining Norgaard in a shrewd double swoop. Kepa will provide fresh competition for David Raya, who will start the new season as Arsenal's No.1 shot-stopper. Further signings are expected once deals for Norgaard and Kepa are wrapped up. Adding an elite striker to Mikel Arteta 's squad is Arsenal's top priority and they remain in contention to sign Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko. The latter has emerged as Arsenal's primary target, though suggestions are that they are growing frustrated with progress on a deal. Gyokeres, coincidentally, is understood to have his heart set on a move to Arsenal despite interest from Manchester United. Martin Zubimendi, the Real Sociedad playmaker, is also poised to join Arsenal this summer. He was in London last week to put the finishing touches to his switch from Spain, though the deal is not expected to be formally completed until next month. The Gunners are also courting a left winger and are prepared to bide their time in their pursuit of Real Madrid's Rodrygo, who could move after the FIFA Club World Cup.

And it wasn't long before he was using the facilities as he was put through his paces, with some tough running drills ahead of the new season. Pre-season started on Monday at Rangers so he will be a couple of days behind his team-mates. Rangers are less than a month away from a huge Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos so the hard work is well underway. A video on the Rangers X account showed him doing the bleep test as he prepares to get himself sharp to challenge James Tavernier for the full-back position. He told the club's official website: "Walking through the doors here, I definitely felt the weight of the shirt and what it means to everyone. "I spoke to one of my family members last night and I said the pressure of playing for a club of this size is something that really excites me. 'I feel like I play my best when I have that. 'I'm delighted to be here. It's a huge club, you realise that when you walk through the doors. I can't wait to get going." Aarons was on loan at Valencia for the second half of the season but made just four appearances in La Liga and is in need of some regular first-team football. He says he knows a few of his new team-mates already in Dujon Sterling, Rabbi Matondo, Kieran Dowell and Tavernier through his brother Marcus. Reacting to Aaron's arrival, Martin said: 'Max is a player who I have always kept a keen eye on since he was emerging through the youth ranks while I was coming to the end of my time at Norwich as a player. New Rangers chiefs Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe's first interview "He is a wonderfully talented player who is hungry to develop, improve and help deliver success for his side. 'We are pleased to bring him on board for this season, and I believe he will be a fantastic addition to the squad.' Max Aarons highlights ‘new energy' and looks forward to life at Rangers
The 25-year-old former Norwich full-back arrives at Ibrox having spent the second half of last season on loan at Valencia. Aarons, who made a £7million transfer to Bournemouth immediately after being part of the England squad that won the Under-21 European Championship two years ago, feels he is joining the Light Blues at a good stage in his career. "I think now I've got a lot of experience, different leagues and I've played a lot of games," he said in a club interview when asked what he will bring to the Light Blues. "I think hopefully that experience, a new energy, and I think Rangers fans can be excited. I'm really looking forward to it." The move to Glasgow reunites Aarons with Gers boss Russell Martin, who was coming towards the end of his time at Norwich while he was emerging from the academy into the first team. The new recruit said Martin was "huge" in his development with "little bits of help and advice along the way". "First and foremost, the size of this club was the main thing in coming here and Russ, when I was coming through at Norwich, was huge," he said. "Having a relationship with a coach and knowing how they work is huge for any player, so that was massive. Alongside the size of this club, I think everything just matched up perfectly." Aarons also knows Gers players Dujon Sterling, Rabbi Matondo and Kieran Dowell from his time at Norwich and he feels he has a good grasp of the demands he will encounter at his new club as they bid to try to challenge Celtic for the Premiership title under their new American owners. "I was speaking with one of my family members last night, actually, and I said that the pressure of playing for a club of this size is something that really excites me," he said. "I feel like I play my best when I have that, so I can't wait. "I think any game with Rangers involved is a huge game. I can't wait to take in Ibrox and the fans, the whole thing. I definitely felt walking through the doors here, the weight of the shirt and how much it means to everyone." Aarons becomes Rangers' second signing of the summer following the arrival of midfielder Lyall Cameron from Dundee. Manager Martin, who has also been linked with Leicester defender Conor Coady, said: "Max is a player who I have always kept a keen eye on since he was emerging through the youth ranks while I was coming to the end of my time at Norwich as a player. "He is a wonderfully talented player who is hungry to develop, improve and help deliver success for his side. We are pleased to bring him on board for this season, and I believe he will be a fantastic addition to the squad."
