Donald Trump's Doonbeg links an Irish Open candidate
'We are looking at a number of venues for the 2026 Amgen Irish Open and will make any announcement on that in due course,' a spokesperson reiterated.
Doonbeg is understood to be making plans to build several new tees over the winter that would add yardage to the links.
The DP World Tour is on a two-week break before returning for the Nexo Championship at Trump International Golf Links, Aberdeen from August 7-10.
US President Trump is making a private trip to Scotland on Friday to visit Trump Turnberry and his Aberdeenshire course. Doonbeg is just 20 miles from Lahinch, where Royal Portrush's Adam Buchanan and Royal Dublin's Seán Downes opened with six-under par 66s to lead the Pierse Motor Group South of Ireland Amateur Open Championship.
They lead by a shot from Westport's Conor Stapleton and Castleknock's Quentin Carew in the battle to make the top 64 who qualify for the matchplay stages from tomorrow.
On the PGA Tour, Séamus Power tees it up in the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota, looking to move closer to the top 100 in the FedEx Cup standings who will have full membership for 2026.
Power is ranked 133rd after picking up points in just two of his last seven starts.
He will be making just his third appearance at TPC Twin Cities, where he was tied 37th last year, and faces stiff opposition from Chris Gotterup and Wyndham Clark, third and tied fourth in The Open, for his third PGA Tour victory.
There's just a week to go before the AIG Women's Open at Royal Porthcawl, and Leona Maguire and Lauren Walsh will be looking to hone their games for that test in the ISPS HANDA Women's Scottish Open at Dundonald Links.
The Scottish event marks the professional debut of England's Lottie Woad, the former world amateur No 1 who won the KPMG Women's Irish Open by six shots at Carton House before going to finish third in the Amundi Evian Championship.
'I am obviously very excited,' she said. 'I have been thinking about making my professional debut for a long time. Excited to do it more on home soil, as well. It's going to be really fun.'
It's also a Major week for Darren Clarke, Paul McGinley and Pádraig Harrington, who play the ISPS HANDA Senior Open at Sunningdale.

The K Club's South Course to host 2026 KPMG Women's Irish Open
The course hosted three editions of the European Open on the DP World Tour and organisers believe a return to a late August date in 2026 will help attract a stronger field. The event takes place two weeks before the Solheim Cup in the Netherlands, which may help attract some big names after Charley Hull, Madelene Sagstrom, Georgia Hall and Anna Nordqvist joined Leona Maguire and Lottie Woad at Carton House this year. MJ Fetherston, Director of The K Club said: 'This is a tournament we want to support and elevate. There is so much brilliant talent in women's golf. 'We have been supporting Leona Maguire for the past few years and this is a terrific development on that. 'The Palmer South course has been given a lot of love and energy over the past few years. We are excited to bring tournament golf back to this challenging course.' After a 10-year hiatus, the tournament was played at Dromoland Castle in 2022 and 2023 before being hosted on the O'Meara Course at Carton House for the last two years. Cian Branagan, CEO of promoters ForeFront Group, believes The K Club will help them build on the success of the last four years. 'We've been incredibly fortunate to host the tournament at some fantastic venues throughout its journey over the last four years, and each year we've aimed to raise the standard,' he said. 'The K Club represents another major step forward and will undoubtedly set the bar even higher.' The event had a prize fund of €450,000 this year with runner-up Sagstrom winning the top prize of €67,500 after Woad, who turned professional this week, claimed the title by six shots as an amateur.

Trump says 50/50 chance of EU trade deal
"I would say that we have a 50-50 chance, maybe less than that, but a 50-50 chance of making a deal with the EU," Trump told reporters Friday before departing for a golf trip to Scotland. Trump added that US and EU negotiators were working "closely" to strike a deal. Trump earlier this month issued a letter saying the EU would face a 30pc tariff on most goods if they fail to reach an agreement by Aug. 1, in addition to sector-specific tariffs. Trump has hit cars and auto parts with a 25pc customs tax, and steel and aluminium with a rate double that. He's also threatened to target pharmaceuticals and semiconductors with new duties as early as next month, and recently announced a 50pc duty on copper. European negotiators are optimistic they can strike a deal that would set a 15pc baseline for most exports, with hopes that duties at that level would also cover categories like automobiles that are facing industry-specific duties. They also hope to set a quota for lower tariffs for some steel and aluminium products. The EU may also receive limited carve-outs linked to aviation, some medical devices and generic medicines, several spirits, and manufacturing equipment. Trump told reporters that he also expected to issue additional letters unilaterally setting tariff rates on other nations in the coming days, and expressed confidence that upcoming trade talks in Stockholm with China could yield more progress.
