Egypt Accelerates Automotive Manufacturing with Inauguration of Sumitomo's Mega Factory
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has officially inaugurated the new 'SI Wiring Systems Egypt' plant, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Electric Systems Europe, in 10th of Ramadan City. With an investment of €22 million, the factory spans 150,000 square meters and is poised to create approximately 3,000 direct jobs.
Describing the facility as one of the largest of its kind globally, Madbouly emphasized its strategic importance in producing electrical wiring harnesses for vehicles. The factory currently exports more than €300 million worth of products annually and employs over 12,000 Egyptians across its operations.
Madbouly noted that Egypt is rapidly positioning itself as a global hub for automotive component manufacturing, supplying major car manufacturers worldwide. He also highlighted that the factory was granted the Golden License in September 2023, broke ground in December, and achieved full operational status by the end of 2024—an impressive timeline made possible by streamlined procedures and strong investor collaboration.
The facility includes a specialized training center to equip young Egyptians with the skills needed for this precision-driven industry. Notably, women make up over 40% of the workforce, underscoring the factory's inclusive employment approach.
Praising Sumitomo's commitment and efficiency, Madbouly pointed to this project as a benchmark for future industrial partnerships, adding that similar fast-track initiatives are underway with other international firms to bolster Egypt's industrial output and exports.

In anticipation of increased footfall along the Nile banks and riverboats, the Water Police have stepped up patrols and inspections to enforce safety protocols. Similarly, the Tourism Police have intensified their presence at archaeological and historical sites popular with both locals and tourists. On the economic front, the Supply Police have launched widespread market inspections to monitor prices and combat monopolistic practices or unjustified price hikes, especially given the surge in demand during the holiday. These campaigns are conducted in coordination with relevant regulatory bodies to maintain stability in the market and safeguard citizens' access to essential goods. Supporting these efforts is the 'We Are All One' initiative, a collaboration between the Ministry of Interior and several retail chains and suppliers, which continues to provide discounted food items through outlets spread across all governorates. This initiative has played a key role in easing financial burdens on citizens and spreading a sense of communal satisfaction. The Ministry of Interior's nationwide security plan encompasses all sectors, aiming to uphold public order, prevent crime, and ensure the full protection of citizens throughout the Eid festivities. The plan includes the deployment of rapid response units, mobile patrols, and reinforced checkpoints at strategic and high-traffic locations. Female police officers have also been deployed in densely populated areas to enhance security and provide assistance to women and children when necessary. Traffic police have intensified monitoring on highways and major roads, deploying rapid-response units to address breakdowns and assist travelers, ensuring smooth transportation throughout the holiday period. Security officials across various governorates are personally overseeing the implementation of these measures through on-site inspections. Officers have been instructed to remain vigilant, fully prepared, and committed to courteous and supportive engagement with the public, reinforcing the image of a police force in service to the people. Special attention is also being given to securing Eid prayer sites, bustling marketplaces, and recreational areas expected to draw large crowds. All divisions of the Ministry of Interior are operating at full capacity to safeguard Eid al-Adha celebrations, emphasizing their ongoing commitment to providing a secure, stable, and reassuring environment for all Egyptians during these blessed days.

Minister: 5G Not Just Internet Speed but 'Milestone' in Digital Transformation
Taarek Refaat Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology affirmed that the launch of 5G services in Egypt is a milestone in the digital transformation. He emphasized that 5G represents more than just an improvement in speed, but rather a qualitative leap in smart services in the fields of health, agriculture, transportation, and industry. During his official speech, the Minister explained that the state began 2024 by issuing the first 5G license, followed by granting licenses to all mobile companies operating in the Egyptian market, reflecting the state's commitment to expanding digital services. He pointed out that mobile companies have invested more than $2.7 billion in infrastructure and frequencies since 2019, reflecting the confidence of local and international investors in the Egyptian telecommunications sector. He also indicated that the government, in cooperation with telecommunications companies, is working to implement massive projects to connect fiber optic cables and cover more than 4,000 villages as part of the "Decent Life" initiative, emphasizing that telecommunications has become a "basic right" for every citizen. The Minister added that the number of users of the "Digital Egypt" platform has exceeded 8 million citizens, and that half a million young people have been trained in digital skills. He noted that the number of Egyptians working through global freelance platforms has jumped from 50,000 in 2020 to more than half a million in 2024.
