Ramli Ngah Talib sworn in as the ninth Yang Dipertua Negeri of Penang
Ramli, 84, took his oath of office and signed the official document, witnessed by Penang High Court Judge Datuk Rozana Ali Yusoff and State Secretary Datuk Zulkifli Long, accompanied by a 17-gun salute.
He was also conferred the state award Darjah Utama Pangkuan Negeri (DUPN), which carries the title Datuk Seri Utama, presented by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow during the ceremony.
Earlier, Ramli inspected a guard of honour mounted by the Second Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment, consisting of three officers and 103 personnel, led by Major Mohd Solleh Jamal.
Meanwhile, in delivering a congratulatory and loyalty message to the new Governor, Chow described Ramli's appointment as a great honour for the people of the state.
He said Ramli's character and leadership reflect the stature of a true statesman and a highly respected figure in the nation's history.
'I am confident that under Tun's leadership and wisdom, Penang will continue to shine, guided by fresh inspiration and spirit towards a brighter, prosperous and harmonious future.
'Together with members of the state executive council, state assemblymen, members of Parliament, leaders at all levels and the people of Penang, we reaffirm our unwavering loyalty to Tun's leadership,' he said.
On April 24, Ramli received his letter of appointment as the ninth Yang Dipertua Negeri of Penang, effective May 1, 2025, from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, in a ceremony at Istana Negara.
At the same ceremony, he was also conferred the federal award of Seri Maharaja Mangku Negara (SMN), which carries the title Tun.
He succeeds Ahmad Fuzi, 76, who had held the position since May 1, 2021, and was the fourth Yang Dipertua Negeri of Penang who was not originally from the state.
Ramli previously held several key positions at both federal and state levels, including serving as the eighth Menteri Besar of Perak for 17 years from 1982 to 1999, Deputy Minister of Transport from 2000 to 2004, and Dewan Rakyat speaker from 2004 to 2008. — Bernama

Ismail files reports over posts linking him to attack on Rafizi's son
Former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the contents of the Facebook postings were completely untrue and maliciously intended to damage his reputation and good name. PETALING JAYA : Former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has filed reports with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission over a Facebook page linking him to the attack on Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli's son. An aide filed a report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters on Aug 18 over two alleged defamatory articles implicating him in the incident and a scandal involving a private company. 'A report has also been filed with MCMC and Facebook so that immediate action can be taken against the page and its administrator or owner,' the former Umno vice-president said in a statement. Ismail said the contents of the postings were 'completely untrue and maliciously intended to damage my reputation and good name'. He urged the authorities to carry out a thorough investigation and take firm action against the owner or administrator of the Facebook page, as well as anyone spreading the postings concerned. 'I have also instructed my lawyers to take further legal action against those involved. 'I thank Rafizi for his explanation on the matter.' Rafizi's 12-year-old son was attacked at a shopping mall in Putrajaya last week. Rafizi said CCTV footage showed that two men, dressed in black with their faces fully covered by helmets, had followed his wife's car on a motorcycle. His son, who was dragged and stabbed with a syringe, was rushed to hospital for treatment and a check-up. The assailants escaped. The former economy minister said he suspected the attack was planned, and that his wife was likely observed by the assailants for a few days before the incident. He also believed it was a warning for him not to speak out on certain issues. Earlier today, Rafizi denied claims linking Ismail and former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin to the attack on his son. The former PKR deputy president said there were allegations a week before the attack that information was provided by a whistleblower about a money laundering case supposedly involving Ismail. He said there were also claims the information concerned projects linked to Khairy during his time in the health ministry.

Interject politely or be ejected, MPs told
KUALA LUMPUR: Members of Parliament have been warned to interject with decorum or risk getting ejected from the Dewan Rakyat. Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor has reminded MPs that there are ways to speak in the august House, stressing that respect must be shown. 'I will tolerate it the best I can, but if it becomes unbearable, I promise you that five days (suspension) will be given. 'There's no more (counting down to) one, two, three,' he said on Tuesday (Aug 19). Ramli issued the reminder as Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi was winding up debates for his ministry under the 13th Malaysia Plan.

Anwar slams ‘evil, extremist' culture after attack on Rafizi's son

(Bernama pic) KUALA LUMPUR : Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today said that an 'evil' and 'extremist' culture had taken root in the country, following an attack on the 12-year-old son of Rafizi Ramli (PH-Pandan) yesterday. Anwar said he had ordered home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail to ensure that immediate action is taken to prevent a recurrence of such an incident. The prime minister said both of them had vowed to act swiftly and transparently. 'We must not only take action (over this case), we must put an end to this evil culture,' he said in the Dewan Rakyat. Police said Rafizi's son was dragged and stabbed with a syringe by an assailant at a shopping mall in Putrajaya at around 2pm yesterday. The incident is believed to have occurred at the mall's drop-off area, while the boy was with his mother and their driver. The assault involved two men on a motorcycle, dressed in black and wearing helmets, whom Rafizi claimed had been following his wife's car. The former PKR deputy president also voiced suspicion that the assault was a warning to him for being outspoken on certain matters.
