South Korean court orders arrest of wife of jailed ex-president Yoon Suk Yeol
In granting a special prosecutor's request for an arrest warrant close to midnight, the Seoul Central District Court said Kim Keon Hee posed a risk of destroying evidence.
The investigation into Ms Kim is one of three special prosecutor inquiries launched under Seoul's new liberal government targeting the presidency of Yoon, a conservative who was removed from office in April and rearrested last month over his brief imposition of martial law in December.
While Yoon's self-inflicted downfall extended a decades-long run of South Korean presidencies ending badly, he and Ms Kim are the first presidential couple to be simultaneously arrested over criminal allegations.

Yoon's surprising yet poorly planned power grab on December 3 came amid a seemingly routine standoff with the liberals, who he described as 'anti-state' forces abusing their legislative majority to block his agenda.
Some political opponents have questioned whether Yoon's actions were at least partly motivated by growing allegations against his wife, which hurt his approval ratings and gave political ammunition to his rivals.
Ms Kim did not speak to reporters as she arrived at the Seoul court on Tuesday for an hours-long hearing on the warrant request.
She will be held at a detention centre in southern Seoul, separate from the facility holding Yoon.
The investigation team led by special prosecutor Min Joong-ki, who was appointed in June by new liberal president Lee Jae Myung, questioned Ms Kim for about seven hours on Wednesday last week before deciding to seek her arrest.
Ms Kim spoke briefly to reporters as she appeared for last week's questioning, issuing a vague apology for causing public concern but also hinting that she would deny the allegations against her, portraying herself as 'someone insignificant'.

Investigators suspect that Ms Kim and Yoon exerted undue influence on the conservative People Power Party to nominate a specific candidate in a 2022 legislative by-election, allegedly at the request of election broker Myung Tae-kyun.
Mr Myung faces accusations of conducting free opinion surveys for Yoon using manipulated data that possibly helped him win the party's presidential primaries before his election as president.
Ms Kim is separately linked to multiple corruption allegations, including claims that she received luxury gifts via a fortune teller acting as an intermediary for a Unification Church official seeking business favours, and possible involvement in a stock price manipulation scheme tied to a local BMW dealership company.
While in office, Yoon repeatedly dismissed calls to investigate his wife, denouncing them as baseless political attacks.

Starmer and Zelenskyy ‘agree strong resolve' for peace ahead of Trump-Putin talks
Keir Starmer and Volodymyr Zelenskyy have said there is 'strong resolve' for peace in Ukraine ahead of highly anticipated talks between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. The two leaders expressed cautious optimism about the prospect of a truce 'as long as Putin takes action to prove he is serious' about ending the war, as they met on Wednesday, a Downing Street statement said. In a separate statement, Mr Zelenskyy said there had been discussions about the security guarantees required to make any deal 'truly durable if the United States succeeds in pressing Russia to stop the killing'. Mr Starmer hosted the Ukrainian president for a private breakfast in No 10 on Thursday as Europe braces for the face-to-face meeting between the US president and his Russian counterpart in Alaska on Friday. European leaders are hopeful about the potential for a ceasefire after a joint call with Mr Trump on Wednesday, during which he reportedly told them his goal for the summit was to secure a ceasefire. But concerns linger over the prospect of Kyiv being excluded from negotiations over its own future, and pressured to cede territory, after the US leader suggested any agreement may need to involve 'swapping of land'. Ukraine has already rejected any proposal that would compromise its borders. Further sanctions could be imposed on Russia should the Kremlin fail to engage and the UK is already working on its next package of measures targeting Moscow, he said. 'We're ready to support this, including from the plans we've already drawn up to deploy a reassurance force once hostilities have ceased,' Mr Starmer told allies on Wednesday. 'It is important to remind colleagues that we do stand ready also to increase pressure on Russia, particularly the economy, with sanctions and wider measures as may be necessary.'

Funeral details announced for killed grandad Stephen Brannigan
His funeral will be held on Saturday, August 16 in St. Brigid's Church in Downpatrick and will be followed by interment in Struell Cemetery. The funeral of murder victim Stephen Brannigan will be held this weekend. The 56-year-old died following an incident in the Marian Park area of Downpatrick on Sunday. Mr Brannigan, a father and a grandfather, was pronounced dead at the scene after officers and ambulance service personnel were called to the property following a report of the death of a man at the address. The funeral will be held on Saturday, August 16 in St. Brigid's Church in Downpatrick and will be followed by interment in Struell Cemetery. Stephen Brannigan News in 90 Seconds - August 14th The chapel is the same place where a prayer vigil was held last Sunday evening after his body was discovered. Prayers at this gathering were also said for Fr John Murray, who had been assaulted with a bottle in the sacristy of St Patrick's Church. The elderly priest who was due to retire this week is reportedly 'progressing' in hospital. In the funeral notice, Mr Brannigan is remembered as a beloved father and grandfather. 'Dearly beloved husband of the late Dorenda, and much loved father of Gemma and Ciara, loving grandfather of Sophie, Lily, Connor, Clodagh, Holly and Ruairi, dear son of Gerry and Kathleen, and brother of Damien, Michelle, Adrian and Paul,' the funeral notice read. It added: 'Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects at his parents' home." Stephen Brannigan died after an attack in Downpatrick on Sunday (PSNI/PA) On Monday, Mr Brannigan's family thanked the local community for their support following his death. "We want to express our particular thanks to those who organised and gathered for the beautiful prayer vigil in St Brigid's Church in the town on Sunday evening,' they said. "It means so much to us at this difficult time and reflects the very special people who make up the Marian Park and wider Downpatrick community. "Stephen was known among his neighbours and friends as someone who was always willing to help out, ready to do whatever needed to be done for the good of others. "Even the day before he died, he was tending the graves of friends and neighbours, as he did, almost every day, the grave of his late wife Dorenda, who died five years ago from cancer. "Stephen faced many difficult issues in his life. We know his life was not perfect. But for us, he was our dad, our grandad, our son and our brother. "His rock through all of this was Dorenda. We pray they will be reunited now in perfect peace and love.' Hugh Malone appeared in court on Wednesday after being charged with the murder of Mr Brannigan, and attempted murder of Fr Murray. The 30-year-old appeared before Newtownards Magistrates' Court today via video-link from Belfast's Musgrave police station.
