Only here for big flag and nasi kandar, Umno Youth chief says after IGP warns against Jalur Gemilang clash in Penang
In a brief post on Facebook, he said the wing's members are just here for the scenery and food.
'We just came to see the big flag and have some nasi kandar,' he wrote, attaching a news article citing Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail.
'The big flag' refers to the giant Jalur Gemilang hung by DAP at a hardware store on Jalan Bertam Perdana, which recently went viral for flying the national flag upside down.
Earlier, the police urged the cancellation of a planned gathering in Bertam here today over the issue of Malaysian flag, to prevent any confrontation between opposing groups.
PDRM said the move was to safeguard the safety of the local community and maintain public order, after both Umno Youth and DAP planned to host events on the matter.
The controversy began when a 59-year-old hardware shop owner in Kepala Batas, Penang, was investigated after the Jalur Gemilang was seen hanging upside-down outside his premises.
The shop owner has reportedly said it was an unintentional mistake made while measuring a flagpole, which he corrected soon after.
Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh previously said it planned to hold a 'class' for the Penang shop owner, but later cancelled it after a warning by the police.
DAP then announced it would sponsor a giant Jalur Gemilang for the shop and mobilise Penang party members to distribute 831 flags, should anyone attempt to stir trouble.

Indonesian woman held at KLIA2 over suspicious passport stamp
PUTRAJAYA, Aug 17 — An Indonesian woman was detained at the departure hall of Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA2) yesterday after immigration officers discovered a suspicious security stamp in her passport. The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) said initial investigations found that the woman had entered Malaysia through immigration at the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex, Tanjung Kupang, Johor. AKPS said the matter will be investigated further to identify those responsible and disciplinary action will be taken against any officers involved. Man arrested after threatening doctor at Ampang Hospital over missed appointment
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 — A 61-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly threatening and attempting to hit a doctor at Ampang Hospital in Selangor. Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail said the confrontation happened on August 12 at the hospital's Emergency Department. The victim, a 30-year-old doctor, told police the suspect became aggressive after missing a scheduled appointment and being given a new date. 'The suspect was said to have hurled abuse at the doctor and tried to punch him,' Azam said in a statement today. Police later detained the man in Cheras on August 13. Checks showed he had three previous criminal records. The suspect has since been released on bail while police finalise the investigation papers for submission to the deputy public prosecutor. The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act for using insulting words.

Fahmi, who also serves as the MADANI Government spokesperson, said the patriotic spirit of the people should not be dampened by the attempts made by some individuals to instil fear around activities involving the national flag. 'Do not be afraid to put up the Jalur Gemilang. Don't feel scared. Some may be worried because a small group of individuals tries to stir up sentiment and exploit the situation to intimidate people. 'Do not take action on behalf of the police; the police will investigate. Do not take action on behalf of the Attorney General's Chambers; the Attorney General will prosecute. Do not take action on behalf of the judges,' he said at the opening of the programme to promote cultural arts with the Pantai Dalam community, here today. On Friday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that there would be no more warnings or reprimands; instead, strict action would be taken against anyone who incites ethnic, religious, and cultural tensions in the country. Anwar said that the growing harmful elements, from the issue of the death of 13-year-old student, Zara Qairina Mahathir, allegedly due to bullying, and most recently the upside-down display of Jalur Gemilang, must be stopped immediately. Meanwhile, Fahmi said that relevant parties must not take the law into their own hands, urging them to trust the authorities to carry out their duties. 'The message I want to convey is that during this National Month, fly the Jalur Gemilang proudly and without fear, to remind ourselves, our families and our communities that Malaysia belongs to all of us,' he said. When asked by reporters on calls by some parties to boycott National Day celebrations if Zara Qairina's case remains unsolved, Fahmi said it should not happen because the celebrations are national events, encouraging everyone to celebrate. 'I, too, want justice for Zara; we don't want bullying to become an ongoing issue. The law is already in place, and action is being taken by Bukit Aman, which has taken over the investigation into the Zara Qairina case.
