LaSalle Transit offering free transport during the Strawberry Festival
LaSalle Transit is extending its free service, offering free transportation to Strawberry Festival goers through the event weekend.
Buses will run during the festival from Thursday, June 5 to Saturday June 7, with final pick-ups at the Vollmer Complex just after the festival is closed.
In addition, a free shuttle bus will run Friday night, bringing attendees to and from the festival for the fireworks. It will go between the Event Centre at LaSalle Landing and the Vollmer Complex between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.
Parking is on site at the Event Centre off Bouffard Road, but it is first-come, first-served. More parking is available at Front Road and Laurier Drive.
A portion of Mike Raymond Drive will be closed from Monday, June 2 to Monday, June 9 for the event. In order to get to available parking, you must do so off Laurier Parkway.
The fireworks will be let off near the pond at the Vollmer Complex around 10 p.m. Friday, June 6.

New York transit executive selected to be new head of TTC
A New York City transit executive has been tapped to take over as the head of the Toronto Transit Commission, Mayor Olivia Chow announced Thursday. Mandeep Lali, who was previously in charge of subway operations at New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), will replace former TTC CEO Rick Leary, who resigned last summer. 'Mr. Lali has over two decades of global experience in transit,' Chow said during Thursday's news conference in Scarborough. 'He deeply understands public transit in a big, busy city. Mandeep Lali's depth of experience managing the most complex subway system in the world is exactly what we need to get Toronto moving.' TTC Chair Jamaal Myers called the hiring process an 'extensive international search' that lasted nearly nine months. He noted that Lali has 'immense experience' in both the private and public sector and has held senior roles at 'two of the world's most iconic transit system.' In addition to his experience at the MTA, Myers said Lali spent 13 years in 'progressively senior roles' at Transport for London. 'What made Mandeep stand out among all of the outstanding candidates that we considered was his clarity of vision,' Myers said. 'When we asked him what his goal for the TTC was he said, without missing a beat, 'To make the TTC the most reliable transit system in north American.' ‘A consistent pattern': Regina Rowing Club dealing with reoccurring vandalism of property
It has been a rough few weeks for the Regina Rowing Club, as several vandalism incidents have taken place against its property. On Saturday, a number of windows were broken at the finish line tower on Pine Island. Workers and volunteers installed plexiglass shortly on those broken windows but then noticed a second incident Tuesday night. Three more windows were broken, with a few large rocks left inside. The outline of a foot was also left on one of the windows, indicating that another one could have been broken as well. 'I've been involved with the community high club since the early 90s,' said Dave Robertson, who is the vice commodore of the Regina Racing and Canoe Club. 'And I know every once in a while, there might be an incident, but there's just been a consistent pattern of several incidents that have been happening over the last few weeks.' The area has also had a few star towers, which are metal structures that are markers during races - pushed into the water. Additionally, a car was stolen last Wednesday. 'It's surprising, and it's also really disheartening,' said Robertson. 'We operate as a volunteer organization. During a one-off incident, you kind of can plan for and expect. But when you have a series of instances where you come in, do the repair, and clean it up, and then only to have that damage redone a couple of days later. It is very taxing on the volunteers.' It is an unfortunate time for vandalisms to occur, with the season now opening for the club. Saturday will see the Saskatchewan team trials for the Canada Summer Games. Regina police said that officers have been canvassing the area for any video that may be available, but that no suspects have been found at this point in time.

QUEBECOR FUND ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR PRODUCERS UNDER ITS TELEVISION PRODUCTION SUPPORT PROGRAMS Français
MONTREAL, June 5, 2025 /CNW/ - The Quebecor Fund Board of Directors today announced the list of Canadian production companies that will receive financial support in the 50th round of the Fund's Television Production Assistance Program, for which submissions closed on April 1, 2025. In this round, the Fund is disbursing a total of more than $2.1 million. Under the Support for the Creation of Intellectual Property component, $785,000 has been granted to four projects from Productions Untamed 5 inc., Écho Média inc., PVP Média inc. and Happy Camper Média inc. The broadcasters supporting the development of these projects are TVA Group Inc., Société Radio‑Canada, Télé‑Québec and TFO. Under the Support for the Production of Intellectual Property for International Markets component, $1,340,231 has been granted in this round to seven fiction series projects from Productions KOTV inc., Zone3 inc., V10 Média inc. (International distributor: Quebecor Content – TVA Distribution), Sphère Média inc., Aetios Productions inc., Duo Productions inc. and Productions Pixcom inc. The selected productions will air in Canada on Société Radio‑Canada, Bell Media Inc and TVA Group Inc. Since its inception in 1999, Quebecor Fund's Television Production Assistance Program has supported a total of 412 projects involving 99 production companies, 49 Canadian broadcasters and 100 foreign platforms and broadcasters with grants totalling more than $108.9 million across all of its components. Of the funding granted under Quebecor Fund's three components since spring 2017, 19% has gone to documentaries, 19% to programs for children/youth, 14% to variety/performing arts, and 48% to drama. Counting this round of the Support for the Creation of Intellectual Property component, launched in March 2017, Quebecor Fund has provided repayable grants totalling nearly $14.9 million to support creation projects in all genres that have received a financial commitment from a recognized French–language broadcasting programming undertaking (BPU).
