Tottenham Monitoring Joao Palhinha as Bayern Consider Options
Spurs show interest in experienced midfielder
Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Joao Palhinha's situation as Bayern Munich remain open to offers. According to Florian Plettenberg, the interest is not yet concrete, but Palhinha's representatives are aware of Tottenham's monitoring.

'Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Joao Palhinha's situation. It is not concrete at this stage, but there is interest,' reported Plettenberg. The 30-year-old defensive midfielder has been a long-term target for Premier League clubs, and with Bayern now prepared to engage in talks, his future may be revisited.
Bayern's stance is clear: 'Bayern are open to talks should suitable offers arrive for the 30 y/o.' Tottenham, seeking greater balance in midfield under Thomas Frank, may yet decide to escalate their interest.
Our View – EPL Index Analysis
Joao Palhinha is undoubtedly a solid midfielder, and if Spurs had signed him from Fulham a year ago, few would have objected. But now, at 30, the deal starts to feel less like forward planning and more like a patch job.

We've seen this film before. A veteran name becomes available, Spurs show interest, talks drag on, and eventually either the price is too high or someone else swoops in. If this is just posturing, then fine. If it's serious, then you hope the club have done the long-term analysis. Palhinha could bring structure and aggression to their midfield, but how does he fit stylistically? Can he keep up with the pace Frank wants?
And Bayern are not desperate sellers. They know what they have. So do Spurs really need to take this on unless it's for the right fee, the right contract length, and a clear role within the squad?
It's not about saying no to Palhinha, but about asking the right questions. Because after so many misfires, Spurs can't afford to make another short-sighted call.

Rugby club in Bradford submits plans for 'high grade' clubhouse

A RUGBY club plans to create a 'high grade' clubhouse that will include changing rooms and a canteen on its grounds. Wibsey Rugby Club has submitted a planning application to install a large portable cabin on the sports field opposite to Wibsey Primary School. The 360 square metre facility will include a changing room with over 150 lockers, men's and women's changing rooms, a shower room, multi faith room, canteen with 80 seats and a food preparation area. The application acknowledges that work on the site has already started – and began in late May. Work on the clubhouse building began in May - according to the application (Image: T&A) To mitigate the loss of green space on the site, the club plans a number of biodiversity measures on the rest of the site. These measures will include 20 square metres of wildflower planting, a 10-metre row of 'pollinator friendly' shrubs, 10 trees planted around the site, two 'insect hotels' and four bird boxes. The application says: 'Despite the small area of habitat lost (360 m²), the proposed biodiversity enhancements across the wider seven-acre site (wildflower planting, native tree and shrub establishment, and faunal features) will result in a significant net biodiversity gain, estimated conservatively at over 140 per cent.' A decision on the application is expected in September.

Positive Points FDJ United (LFDJF) reported a 31% increase in revenues on a reported basis, reaching nearly 1.9 billion. The company aims for an average annual organic growth of around 5% from 2025 to 2028. FDJ United (LFDJF) targets a recurring EBITDA margin above 26% by 2028. The company is committed to increasing its dividend with a minimum payout ratio of 75% of adjusted net income. FDJ United (LFDJF) continues to excel in sustainability, aiming to grow its voluntary contribution to society and the environment from 2.7% of net income in 2024 to 5% by 2030. Negative Points Revenue was down 2% on a restated basis, considering the integration of Kindred. Recurring EBITDA decreased by 10%, with a margin of 23.6%, impacted by a one-off employee share ownership plan. Net financial income was negatively impacted by the Kindred acquisition financing, resulting in a net loss of 37 million. The effective tax rate increased to 40% due to a one-off additional income tax on large French companies. Retail sports betting revenue declined by 6%, mainly due to unfavorable sports results affecting the operator margin. Q & A Highlights Warning! GuruFocus has detected 4 Warning Signs with LFDJF. Q: Can you provide more details on the top-line momentum in France, particularly regarding lottery growth and expectations for H2? Also, any updates on the regulatory environment in the Netherlands? A: In H2, we expect continued growth in lottery and retail sports betting, with lottery growth between 1% and 2% due to a tax rate increase in France. The Netherlands' regulatory environment remains stable, with no new changes expected. We are working on improving customer compliance with existing regulations. Q: Could you elaborate on the pipeline for lottery products, particularly the impact of new games like Crescendo? Also, any updates on the UK regulatory situation? A: Crescendo is a significant addition to our lottery offerings, launching in Q4, but its impact will be more pronounced in future years. Regarding the UK, we expect to align with the voluntary code by the end of Q3, which should stabilize the regulatory environment. Q: What is the outlook for cost evolution in OBG, and when will the impact of cost-saving initiatives be visible? A: Cost reductions in OBG will become more evident in 2026, driven by the merger of Uni and Sporting offers in France and the completion of the KSP rollout. These initiatives will significantly lower IT and external costs by 2027. Q: Can you provide more details on the deployment of KSP and which countries will migrate by the end of this year? A: We have not disclosed specific countries for competitive reasons, but several major markets will transition to KSP in early 2026. The rollout is progressing as planned, with some migrations expected in H2 2025 and others in H1 2026. Q: What is your perspective on the potential for online casino regulation in France? A: The likelihood of a public consultation on online casino regulation in France is low due to the current political environment. We do not anticipate any significant regulatory changes in the near term. For the complete transcript of the earnings call, please refer to the full earnings call transcript.
