Commenting on his new job, three-time Grand Slam winner Murray said: 'I am proudly Scottish, and partnering with Walker's, a brand that has been representing Scotland around the world for well over a century, felt like a great fit for me. 'I come from a small tight-knit community and when I look back at where I have come from, I am proud of what I've achieved. 'Which is something I share with Walker's. It's a real honour to be part of this next chapter for such a well-loved Scottish brand.' Murray also revealed that he's been a fan of shortbread since he was a kid, with his grandmother making it "all the time". He added: "We even celebrated my Wimbledon win with shortbread. Robert MacIntyre's career prize money revealed as Scots golf star pockets biggest payout of his life at US Open

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) IT came close to being the greatest moment of his life. And despite losing the US Open in heartbreaking fashion, Scots golf star Robert MacIntyre was still able to secure the biggest payout of his fledgling career. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 7 Bob MacIntyre almost made history at the US Open Credit: Getty 7 But he's set for another big pay day thanks to his runner-up finish 7 MacIntyre's first big win on the pro golf circuit was in Cyprus back in 2020 7 But his crowning glory was winning his home tournament last year A stunning final round at Oakmont fired MacIntyre into contention during the closing stages, despite starting the day SEVEN shots off the lead. The 28-year-old was pipped by American JJ Spaun, who holed a monster birdie putt from 65 feet to clinch his maiden major championship and banish any demons from his runner-up finish at The Players Championship earlier this year. Victory for MacIntyre in Pennsylvania would have seen him break his major duck too - and become the first Scot to win the US Open in almost 100 years. The Oban lefty was gutted to miss out but has been widely praised for his classy show of sportsmanship in defeat. To somewhat soften the blow, MacIntyre earned invaluable ranking points that saw him climb to a career-high of 12th in the world, and he now looks a lock for an automatic pick for the Ryder Cup. Not only that but he banked a whopping £1.7million for finishing solo second - the most he has taken home from a single event in his career. That adds to a staggering career total that ranks him among some of the richest sportsmen to come out of Scotland in recent times. Last year was a breakthrough year for MacIntyre on the PGA Tour as he claimed two statement victories, first at the Canadian Open and then at the Scottish Open. His Canadian Open win came in emotional fashion with his dad Dougie acting as his emergency caddie, and he followed that up with a thrilling win on home soil a month later. The Canadian Open bagged the Scot £1.33m - which at the time was the largest sum ever received from a single event by a Scottish golfer. Inside Robert MacIntyre's wild Scottish Open celebrations His US Open win has now set a new record in that regard. For his inspiring Scottish Open victory, MacIntyre won a further £1.2m. He pocketed £4,032,520 in prize money over the course of the 2024 PGA Tour season. In 2024 he added a further £502,747.97 from events on the DP World Tour (formerly known as the European Tour). Prior to 2024 MacIntyre had competed mainly on the Euro-based circuit. He won the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award in 2019 and a year later claimed his first win on the tour at the Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Showdown. For that he took home a healthy £170,520. Two years later he won the Italian Open at Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome, a feat that would put him in prime position to succeed at the Ryder Cup at the same venue in 2023. MacIntyre claimed a winner's share of £434,764.80 from the event in Italy. Bob MacIntyre: Made for future success Speaking after his runner-up finish at the US Open: "There's no reason why I can't win a major championship in my career and that's my goal now. "I said I wanted to win the Scottish Open and I got that. "I thought I had this one, to be honest with you. "But I just want to win majors now. "I am starting to see things happening with my game - driver, putter, everything. "I feel things coming and just have to keep going and keep going until I get that result. "As far as the Ryder Cup is concerned, that's where I want to be. "I want to play every Ryder Cup from now until the day I retire. "This is a massive step for that to happen this year." Some of his other career highlights include a close runner-up finish to Rory McIlroy at the Scottish Open in 2023 and top tens at The Open in 2019 (at Royal Portrush) and last year's PGA Championship at Valhalla. His Open debut earned him a cool £229,978 while the 2024 PGA finish was worth £382,960 (he practically doubled his payout at the latter with just ONE shot). MacIntyre ranks The Masters as one of his favourite tournaments and on his debut at Augusta he finished tied-12th, good enough for £194,224. All in all, his achievements so far bring his total career earnings to just over £12 MILLION. He still has some way to go to catch Sir Andy Murray's £47.6m however... 7 MacIntyre with the Italian Open in 2022 7 He famously claimed the Canadian Open with his dad Dougie on the bag 7 The future looks bright for the man from Oban Credit: AP Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Abandoned 34,500-seater football stadium that had been tipped to host Euro 2028 matches lands £50m towards restoration

GROUND TO A HALT Abandoned 34,500-seater football stadium that had been tipped to host Euro 2028 matches lands £50m towards restoration Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) AN abandoned stadium that was set to host Euro 2028 matches has received a huge boost over its future. The major tournament was set to be hosted by the Republic of Ireland and the four home nations of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 Casement Park has been left to rot for ten years Credit: AFP 3 There were plans to bring the stadium back to life for Euro 2028 Credit: AFP 3 Demolition work has begun at the site Credit: Sportsfile Belfast's Casement Park was initially selected as among the stadiums to host games amid plans to rebuild the ground to a 34,000 capacity. But it has since been axed from Euro 2028 due to funding issues and Northern Ireland will no longer be a host nation. Despite that, redevelopment of Casement Park is still going ahead and the government have confirmed that they are making a £50million contribution to the project. But there is still a £90m shortfall as Stormont chiefs and the Gaelic Athletic Association can only find £120m of the £260m required. READ MORE IN FOOTBALL 'BEYOND BLESSED' Maddison and Wag sensationally announce they're expecting twins AGAIN Northern Ireland's finance minister John O'Dowd welcomed the government's backing and encouraged everyone to "now work together" to get the stadium built. Casement Park shut down in 2013 and has since been left abandoned. Incredible photos show the stands rotting and the pitch overgrown. The ground welcomed 31,000 supporters back in its pomp for hurling and Gaelic football matches. JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUS The derelict site has received planning permission to be modernised and early demolition work has begun. But some have called for the proposed design to be axed to allow for a cheaper build to be made. Northern Ireland currently play their home games at the 18,500-seater Windsor Park. Uefa require all grounds for major tournaments to be able to hold 30,000 fans. The Irish FA have ruled out expanding Windsor Park.
