The hidden detail in Prince George's charming 12th birthday portrait that shows just how close he is to his sister Princess Charlotte

Daily Mail22-07-2025
Prince George looked countryside smart in a checked shirt layered with a khaki gilet for his 12th birthday portrait - but eagle-eyed royal fans will have no doubt noticed a playful addition to his ensemble in a form of a friendship bracelet on his wrist.
The Prince and Princess of Wales released the charming photo, taken earlier this year by one of the family's favourite photographers, Josh Shinner, in Norfolk, to mark the future King's special day on Tuesday.
Beaming for the camera, George leans over a wooden gate and, in the snap, appears to be wearing a bracelet made of blue-coloured threads - in a Taylor Swift-inspired trend that he and his sister Princess Charlotte have previously taken part in.
King Charles, 76, has also previously been spotted wearing what appears to be a 'friendship bracelet' at royal engagements.
Princess Charlotte, ten, has been spotted wearing the colourful accessories ever since she attended the first night of Taylor Swift 's Eras Tour in June 2024 with her father Prince William and brother George.
Weeks later at Wimbledon, Charlotte was spotted wearing two threaded bracelets, one featuring various shades of pink and another boasting green, blue and pink fabric.
Meanwhile, this isn't the first time George has sported a friendship bracelet, with the royal opting to wear the vibrant accessory in his otherwise formal 11th birthday portrait.
The prince once again wore the bracelet with a smart suit when he attended the Euro 2024 Final between Spain v England.
In November, George's father William was seen wearing a homemade friendship bracelet bearing the word 'Papa' - the name his children call him - in Cape Town. His daughter is understood to have made the item for him especially before the trip.
In September, William joked that Prince Louis could try to steal Charlotte's friendship bracelets.
The prince was meeting with pupils who took part in Welsh language festival Urdd Eisteddfod at Swiss Valley Community Primary School.
Among them was ten-year-old winner Ruby Davies, who sweetly gifted William some friendship bracelets in a pink envelope to give to his children.
The Prince was delighted by the gift - and even gave an insight into daily life between Charlotte and her cheeky younger brother Louis, seven.
'That's so sweet,' William said, after carefully unwrapping them. 'Did you build them at home? Did you put them together yourself?
'Thank you so much Ruby. They're going to love those, you'll see them out and about. I'll keep them away from Louis because he'll try and steal all his sister's bits.'
Friendship bracelets saw a resurgence in popularity last year due to the success of Taylor Swift's Eras tour.
However, the royal versions are not believed to be the same as those made by fans attending Taylor's concerts - despite George and Charlotte going to her show at Wembley.
The bracelets swapped by Swifties tend to feature beads with lettering spelling out lyrics and song names, while Charlotte, George and Charles' accessories are made from plain coloured thread.
George, who was born on July 22, 2013 at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London, was first introduced to the world when his mother Kate and father William stepped out of the Lindo Wing with him in their arms.
Dressed in a summery powder blue frock, Kate glowed as she and William revealed their first child, George Alexander Louis, to the world.
George, who currently attends Lambrook School in Berkshire, will move to secondary education when he reaches the age of 13 - although it has not yet been confirmed which institution his parents have chosen to send him to.
Among the schools reportedly being considered were his father's alma mater; Eton College, and his mother's; Marlborough College.
While nothing is confirmed yet, the Mail on Sunday reported last month that £63,000-a-year Eton was the frontrunner for Kate and William. A source told the paper: 'All roads lead to Eton.'
Sport-loving George has delighted royal fans around the world with public appearances alongside his parents at sporting events; including Aston Villa matches with his father and, most recently, the men's Wimbledon final.
The 12-year-old sat alongside his parents and sister Charlotte to watch defending champion Carlos Alcaraz take on World No. 1 Jannik Sinner - before the Italian smashed the Spaniard to lift the trophy.
An animated George watched in apparent frustration as his favourite player dropped sets to Sinner, and appeared downcast at the final result.
It has been widely reported in the past that George and Charlotte are huge Alcaraz fans, and the pair have rejoiced at the 22-year-old's Wimbledon wins in the last two years.

Guests and release date revealed for second season of Meghan's lifestyle show

Netflix has released a trailer for season two of the Duchess of Sussex's lifestyle show – a day after the Sussexes announced a watered-down deal with the streaming giant. The teaser, which Meghan also shared on her Instagram, revealed that the next instalment of With Love, Meghan will air in two weeks' time on August 26. Among the celebrity guests joining the former Suits star during the eight episodes will be US model and TV personality Chrissy Teigen and Queer Eye star Tan France, as well as podcaster Jay Shetty and his cookbook author wife Radhi Devlukia. Also appearing will be chefs Samin Nosrat, Clare Smyth, Christina Tosi, Jose Andres and David Chang, and Meghan's close friends, pilates instructor Heather Dorak and make up artist Daniel Martin. The trailer, to the soundtrack of Bobby Day's upbeat Rockin' Robin, showed Meghan cooking, baking and crafting with her celebrity friends and saying: 'I love the idea of just spending time together … and finding new ways to show people you care.' She adds while being shown wrapping a gift: 'There are easy ways to show up, lovingly.' Meghan also reveals the Duke of Sussex is not a fan of lobster. She tells Andres as they prepare a dish together: 'Do you know who doesn't like lobster? My husband,' with the chef replying, prompting laughter from Meghan: 'And you marry (sic) him?' On Monday, Harry and Meghan announced a 'multi-year, first-look deal for film and television projects', in contrast to their reported 100 million dollar (£74 million) contract five years ago. PR and crisis expert Mark Borkowski described it as a 'downgrade', and suggested Netflix was 'pivoting away' from Harry and Meghan. Season one of With Love, Meghan was savaged by critics. One review in The Guardian described it as a 'gormless lifestyle filler' and 'so pointless it might be the Sussexes' last TV show'. The series has a 3.2 rating out of 10 on Netflix said at the time that the second season had already finished filming. The duchess officially launched her lifestyle brand As Ever, in which Netflix is a partner, just hours after season one premiered in March. She has gone on to sell jam, pre-made baking mixes, herbal tea and rose wine – as well as flower sprinkles, which she heavily promoted during the programme and which are also seen being used in the new trailer.

BBC Radio Scotland's Bryan Burnett to return to airwaves after cancer treatment

BBC Radio Scotland presenter Bryan Burnett will return to the airwaves on Thursday after undergoing cancer treatment. The broadcaster announced in June he would step back from his programme Get It On to receive care for appendix cancer. Fellow presenter Grant Stott, who stepped in during his absence, announced his return to listeners on Tuesday night. He said: 'In what must have been a terrible time for Bryan and his family and close friends, I'm just delighted I was able to help by looking after something that is very precious to Bryan; Get It On and his listeners. 'Getting to do the show over this time has shown me just how close the audience is to Bryan and vice versa. 'I know they will be delighted to get their radio teatime pal back.' Burnett said his treatment had been successful and thanked those who had wished him well throughout his recovery. Commenting on his return, he said: 'I am delighted to be returning to work following successful treatment for appendix cancer. 'Over the past few months I have been focused on my recovery and have been supported by an incredible medical team, my family and friends, and the overwhelming kindness of so many BBC Radio Scotland listeners who have reached out with encouragement and well-wishes. 'Their messages, cards and kindness have meant so much. 'My team at the BBC have also been a huge support and I want to thank Grant Stott, who has been sitting in for me and done such a great job looking after the show. 'My return to work will be gradual to ensure I maintain my health and energy. Cancer has given me a renewed perspective on what matters most and I am excited about the road ahead and grateful for the opportunity to return to doing what I'm passionate about.' Hayley Valentine, director BBC Scotland, said: 'Like the Get it On listeners, everyone at BBC Scotland is delighted to be welcoming Bryan back to the studio following what has been a tough couple of months for him. We look forward to seeing and hearing him back where he belongs.' Stott will share Get it On presenting duties with Bryan during his phased return. Burnett's first Get it On show will be Thursday 14 August 14 6pm to 8pm.

Romeo Beckham seen on budget Jet2 flight following his estranged brother Brooklyn's gratuitous show of wealth with lavish vow renewal

Romeo Beckham was spotted on a budget Jet2 flight on Monday, following his estranged brother Brooklyn's gratuitous show of wealth with lavish vow renewal. The footballer, 22, appeared to keep a low profile dressed in a black hoodie and a pair of matching jogging bottoms. He was seen patiently waiting in the queue for the flight at Birmingham Airport, before a fan snapped a picture of him sitting on the plane to France. It comes after the Beckham family reportedly branded Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz's secret vow renewal a 'gratuitous display of obscene wealth'. The couple wed for a second time on August 2 in Westchester County in front of her family, followed by a butterfly-theme afterparty, with the Beckham clan nowhere in sight at either event. The lack of his family's presence is the latest sign Brooklyn, 26, and Nicola, 30, have washed their hands with his family. Now, sources close to the Beckhams claim the family didn't understand the need for Brooklyn and Nicola to renew their vows just three years after tying the knot in 2022. A source told The Sun: 'They would understand if it was, say, 10 years down the line - maybe even five. But three?! It seems like quite a gratuitous display of obscene wealth. 'Also, if Brooklyn wanted to create a really cute memory, why couldn't he have just let his family know their plans first? 'To be honest, although there have been moments of rapprochement, this hostility dates back to 2021, around six months before the original wedding. 'The dynamics have just never really gelled. Of course David and Victoria want Brooklyn to be happy and clearly he is wildly in love still, but a lot of people have been hurt. It is a sad situation and everyone fears there is no way back now. It is done.' Daily Mail has contacted the Peltz and Beckham's representatives for comment. Brooklyn's family's feelings towards their vow renewal could suggest why none of his relatives were on the invite list. However, Victoria, David and their children Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14, were said to have only found out about Brooklyn's big day after reading about it on a US website. It's a stark contrast to Nicola's family, who had key roles at the second wedding, with her father Nelson, 83, officiating, wearing her mother Claudia's, 70, vintage wedding gown and letting her parents take centre stage once again at the after party. Their eldest son has become increasingly estranged from the family ever since he snubbed his father's 50th birthday, and now, the family fear it's a final kick in the teeth for the family. A source told The Sun on Monday: 'This was the final kick in the teeth for David and Victoria. Seeing Nelson having such a pivotal role at the ceremony was heartbreaking for David especially. Not one member of the 30-plus extended family knew about the wedding, or were invited. 'His grandparents are devastated too as Brooklyn has always been so close to them.' The source added: 'It feels cruel and spiteful. This is no longer a game. It has gone beyond all that. This is a family who feel they have lost their precious boy - and see no way back. 'Honestly, they are now questioning why he even wants to keep the 'Beckham' surname - will he revert to Peltz? August 2nd 2025 - is this the day Brooklyn formally declared himself no longer a part of the Beckham family? It certainly feels like it.' Brooklyn and Nicola first tied the knot in a lavish £3million ceremony in 2022, when relations first began to sour with his parents in the run-up to the big day. After shunning a dress made by her fashion designer Victoria in favour of a Valentino gown in 2022 - a choice which wasn't well received - Nicola once again snubbed her mother-in-law and wore her mother Claudia's vintage wedding gown. It is a poignant message to Posh and Becks', whom he and Nicola have grown increasingly estranged over recent months. Brooklyn's family's feelings towards their vow renewal could suggest why none of his relatives were on the invite list All the while the Beckhams were said to be upset by the Peltzes in 2022 who they felt were taking over the wedding. And ever since their first big nuptials in April 2022, the two families have not reunited and Nicola has rarely been pictured with the Beckhams. The couple shared the images on Instagram on Monday, alongside the words 'only love.' Nicola wore the same original $1.8mill ring set adding a glinting filter onto the dazzling jewels. They also shared a video of their very casual proposal on TikTok alongside a song by Ysabelle Cuevas alongside the words: 'Lost in your eyes..' Brooklyn described the vow renewal as a 'really beautiful experience' while admitting he is still head-over-heels for his wife. Speaking for the first time about the day, the 26-year-old admitted he'd happily do it 'every single day' if he could.
