Mission Impossible 8, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, earned Rs 86.41 crore in India.
Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible 8 entered the third week in India on a strong note. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie and co-written with Erik Jendresen, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning marks Tom Cruise's final outing as the legendary spy Ethan Hunt. The film also stars Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Henry Czerny, and Angela Bassett.
After a bit of a slow second week, the action-packed film picked up again over the weekend with a good jump in earnings. On Day 14 (the second Friday), it made Rs 1.76 crore, and on Day 15 (the third Saturday), the collections went up to Rs 3.50 crore, according to early estimates. With this, the film's total box office collection in India across all languages has reached a strong Rs 86.41 crore.
Tom Cruise had even thanked everyone for the response his film received. In a note, he wrote, 'This weekend was one for the history books! Congratulations and thank you to every filmmaker, every artist, every crew member, and every single person who works at the studios. To every theater and every employee who helps bring these stories to audiences, thank you. To every one that works at Paramount Pictures and Skydance, thank you for your many years of partnership and unwavering support. And most of all, THANK YOU to audiences everywhere for whom we all serve and for whom we all LOVE to entertain."
Mission Impossible 8 had released on May 17 after a successful premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. It earned over five-minute standing ovation.
Ahead of the release, Tom Cruise had left Indian fans delighted by speaking in Hindi during a promotional video. 'Main aap sab se bahut pyaar karta hoon. Mujpe bharosa karo, ek akhri baar (I love you all a lot. Trust me one last time)," he said. He also shared his fond memories of visiting India, adding, 'I feel so much love for India. I have to say the whole experience has been etched in my memory. Every single moment. From the moment I landed, going to the Taj Mahal, and spending time in Mumbai, I remember each moment quite vividly."
A part of News18's review of the film read, 'But what truly sets The Final Reckoning apart is its tone. It's not just an action blockbuster. It's an elegy. A goodbye. A thank-you. And somehow, despite all the chaos, it's also a reckoning with legacy, with sacrifice, with what it really means to be a hero when the world keeps moving the goalpost. The Final Reckoning is the most fitting, heart-racing, gut-wrenching finale Ethan Hunt could've asked for. If this really is the last mission, then hats off, Mr. Cruise. You didn't just complete it. You aced it."

Rajinikanth's 'Coolie' didn't deserve an 'A' certificate, says Producer Elred Kumar

Chennai: Lauding director Lokesh Kanakaraj's action extravaganza 'Coolie', featuring Superstar Rajinikanth in the lead, one of Tamil film industry's well-known producers Elred Kumar has now expressed surprise and displeasure at the film having been given an 'A' certificate by the Censor Board. Taking to his X timeline soon after having watched the film, the producer wrote, "Watched #Coolie @Dir_Lokesh fantastic work. #Rajini sir amazes me, Superstar is always a Superstar! @anirudhofficial elevates the film to another level. Other language films with more violence get U/A, yet #Coolie gets an A? This film didn't deserve that. Something fuzzy, Tamil film fraternity needs to step up." Producer Elred Kumar isn't the only one to have expressed this opinion. Scores of other viewers who watched the film too have expressed a similar opinion. In fact, the decision of the Censor Board to grant an 'A' certificate to the film raised many eyebrows, even before the film's release. The development even had a section of the audience concerned. Family audiences and children form a considerable chunk of actor Rajinikanth's fan base and Coolie getting an 'A' certificate meant that families would be unable to take their children to theatres to watch the eagerly-awaited film. However, despite the A certificate, the film has performed exceptionally well, setting the cash registers to ring at the box office. The film's makers, Sun Pictures, claimed that the film had made a worldwide gross of Rs 151 crores, the highest ever day one worldwide gross made by a Tamil film. Coolie also became the highest overseas Day 1 grosser among Tamil films, making over 8.75 million Dollars. Coolie, which seems to be living up to the huge expectations from it, has made headlines by becoming the highest overseas procurement for a Tamil film to date. Rumours doing the rounds in the industry also suggest that director Lokesh Kanakaraj's much awaited action entertainer has reached audiences in over a 100 countries around the world. Hamsini Entertainment, a key player in international film distribution, is backing the film's global distribution. Apart from Rajinikanth, the film also stars stalwarts from the Indian film industry like Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir and Shruti Haasan. Anirudh has composed the music for the film, marking his fourth consecutive film with director Lokesh Kanagaraj. Cinematography for the film is by Girish Gangadharan and editing is by Philomin Raj. Interestingly, director Lokesh Kanakaraj had disclosed that 'Coolie', which is Rajinikanth's 171st film, will be a stand alone film and not a part of his Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).

R Madhavan REACTS To Working With Younger Heroines: 'People Feel Picture Ke Bahaane Aish Kar Raha'

Last Updated: R. Madhavan opens up on ageing, insecurities and choosing age-appropriate heroines. R Madhavan, who was recently seen in Aap Jaisa Koi, recently opened up about ageing, career choices and equality in relationships. In the film, he played a man in his 40s searching for a bride, a story that mirrors some of his real-life reflections on age. 'One of the first times you get hit about your age is when your kids' friends start calling you uncle. It hits you by shock but then you have to come to terms with it," Madhavan admitted in a chat with Hindustan Times. Age, the actor says, has also shaped his work decisions. 'When you are doing movies, you realise that you have to be careful in the choice of heroines, because even though they still want to work with you, it looks like the actor is having fun on the pretext of the movie. People feel ye picture ke bahaane aish kar raha hai. If that is the overwhelming feeling coming out of a movie, then woh character ke liye respect nahi rehta hai," he explains. He adds, 'There is also the realisation that my body strength is not such that I can do things like a 22-year-old. It's essential for me to realise that age appropriateness and the kind of people I'm working with, are aligned so that it doesn't look sleazy." Madhavan also shared his thoughts on equality in marriage, inspired by his relationship with Sarita Birje. 'The relationship that my mother and father shared, they were also equally and deeply in love with each other, and that I think I share with my wife too. But the sense of equality that my father had in the relationship is very different from the sense of equality that I am having right now. We have to define what that equality means." He explained, 'Sometimes opening a door or holding the door for a lady is considered offensive by some. The guy is not trying to offend, he's just following his manners. In a patriarchal society, a man allowing his wife to work is considered generous. Saying 'I'm proud my wife is working' is the better way." view comments First Published: August 17, 2025, 13:05 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
