South Sharqiyah reviews key projects to boost housing, tourism

Muscat – The Municipal Council of South Sharqiyah governorate held a meeting on Tuesday to review a range of ongoing and proposed development projects across housing, tourism, infrastructure and urban planning sectors.
The meeting was chaired by Governor Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali and formed part of the governorate's broader transformation agenda. Initial discussions included updates from the Digital Transformation Team and findings from the recent Housing Visions hackathon, which explored innovative solutions to address housing needs in the region.
A report from the General Directorate of Housing and Urban Planning highlighted support being extended to low-income families, in line with national objectives to improve living conditions and promote inclusive urban growth.
Tourism development featured prominently in the discussions. Among the proposals reviewed were the planned Saih al Sandah Park in Jalan Bani Bu Ali, a falaj walkway in Al Kamil Wal Wafi, the Qurun waterfront development in Jalan Bani Bu Hassan, and infrastructure upgrades at Masirah Port aimed at enhancing visitor access and experience.
The council reaffirmed its focus on projects aligned with national strategies, while catering to local requirements. Infrastructure efforts under review included rehabilitation of the road leading to Masirah Hospital, improved main street signage, installation of pedestrian crossings, paving of roads to the Ashkhara Industrial Area, and the construction of a new fish market in Sur, designed to meet environmental and public health criteria.
The session also saw the launch of a new visual identity for the Jalan Bani Bu Ali General Endowment Foundation. The move is intended to promote better governance, strengthen asset management and encourage innovation in the endowment sector.

'Dhakira' platform to enhance digital services for NARA

Muscat: The National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA) launched the electronic portal and digital services 'Dhakira' on Thursday, under the auspices of Dr Ali bin Amer al Shaithani, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology. A step aims to enhance digital transformation and align with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and the country's National Digital Transformation Programme. Dr Hamad bin Mohammed al Dhuwayani, Chairman of NRAA, emphasised the importance of technical development in improving institutional performance. He pointed out that the twelve services automated by the NRAA aim to expedite and streamline procedures, increase beneficiary satisfaction, reduce reliance on paper, and enable the national drive towards an e-government that meets the aspirations of its customers. The platform offers a diverse and integrated range of services for individuals, government and private institutions. The platform includes services such as the opportunity to visit the permanent and mobile exhibitions, adopt electronic document and document management systems, request registration, oral narratives, consultations in electronic document management, training in document management, training in document management, registration of private documents, submission of private documents, document restoration services, research project submissions, digital library services, and automated chat. The launch ceremony featured a presentation on external electronic services and the digital portal. The launch was capped by a symbolic gesture from the sponsor on the tablet, officially announcing the launch of electronic services via the 'Dhakira' platform. Eng Sultan al Kharousi, Head of the Digital Transformation Team at the Authority, expressed his pride in what has been achieved, noting that this initiative represents a qualitative shift in service provision and confirms the institution's commitment to innovation and keeping pace with technological developments to meet the aspirations of society. Azzan bin Khamis al Subhi, Director of the Quality Department and Deputy Head of the Digital Transformation Team at the Authority, said: "The launch of the electronic portal and digital services represents a turning point for the Authority in serving and satisfying beneficiaries and achieving the indicators of the National Digital Transformation Programme. The Authority has given its full priority to acquiring the best programmes, technologies, and applications that serve beneficiaries." The Authority affirmed its continued development of its digital platforms and services to achieve a distinguished user experience, promote a culture of digital transformation at all levels, and engage in effective partnerships to achieve the national programme indicators of Oman Vision 2040 while paying attention to the continuous improvement of preserving the rich history to create a bright future. The ceremony concluded with honouring employees for their continuous efforts in implementing the best initiatives that contribute to raising the Authority's digital transformation indicators. Collaborators from the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology were also honoured, as they played a prominent role in overcoming and facilitating challenges and contributing effectively to supporting all institutions. The Authority also commended the fruitful cooperation with its technical partner, EMBEE Novintech, for the project to re-engineer external services procedures and the 'Dhakira' services platform.

SALALAH: Government agencies in Dhofar Governorate convened at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah to present their annual achievements and upcoming projects for 2025. The event, attended by senior officials, showcased key initiatives to enhance infrastructure, commerce, tourism, and social development in the governorate. Dhofar Municipality's presentation highlighted ongoing projects, including 13 road paving and lighting initiatives and the development of 'Boulevard Al Dharath' in Salalah's Itin area. The governorate's preparations for the 2025 Khareef season were also discussed, emphasizing improved public amenities, tourism facilities, and environmental conservation efforts. The General Directorate of Trade, Industry, and Investment Promotion outlined strategies to boost exports, having issued 11,000 certificates of origin in 2024 — a 30 per cent increase. The 'Made in Oman' campaign, aimed at promoting Omani products locally, and new investment opportunities in food security and tourism were also presented. Additionally, the General Directorate of Housing and Urban Planning revealed ambitious projects, including the Greater Salalah City master plan and the Al Shorouk neighbourhood initiative. The Directorate of Roads and Land Transport announced infrastructure advancements such as the Al Maghsail Bridge project and the dualisation of the Raysut-Al Maghsail road, valued at over RO 44 million. Social development efforts were also a focal point, with the Directorate of Social Development reporting over 4,000 beneficiaries receiving social assistance, and ongoing initiatives for persons with disabilities, elderly care, and women's empowerment.
