Lucknow: With total purchases worth Rs 65,227 crore through the
Government e-Marketplace
(GeM) portal between 2020–21 and 2024–25, UP has left all other states behind. Union commerce and industry minister
Piyush Goyal
, in a letter to Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath
, praised the state's active participation and called it a model for other states.
Goyal has noted in his letter that in 2024–25 alone, over 72 lakh procurement orders were completed, amounting to Rs 5.43 lakh crore — a new milestone in India's public procurement system.
Since its inception, the GeM has facilitated over 2.9 crore orders amounting to more than Rs 14 lakh crore. UP's contribution to this is highly significant and it has been among the top buyers since the beginning. The platform now includes over 11,000 product categories and more than 330 service categories.
The purchases made by UP buyers over the past five fiscal years reflect the state's technical proficiency, transparency, and policy commitment, Goyal says in his letter.
He further pointed out that the UP government issued a comprehensive order on November 26, 2024, aligning its procurement rules with the General Financial Rules (GFR) 2017 and GeM's General Terms and Conditions (GTC). This order consolidated various procurement-related notifications into a unified framework, simplifying processes and enabling 100% adoption of GeM in the state.
Goyal stated that this initiative is a living example of the Digital India vision. When technology and inclusivity are tied to effective execution, such accomplishments become possible. He added that UP's effort would serve as inspiration for other states, accelerating the nationwide adoption of GeM. He also emphasized that UP's support for GeM is a step toward realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a "one-stop digital marketplace.
"
A state govt spokesperson said that under CM Yogi Adityanath's leadership, UP has not only led in adopting GeM but also ensured its effective and transparent implementation across departments. "His proactive guidance has made UP's procurement model a benchmark for other states. The state's integrated digital approach reflects how policy commitment, innovation, and inclusive execution can truly realise the vision of Digital India," he added.
In his letter, Piyush Goyal expressed confidence that UP will continue this dedicated cooperation in the future.

Infra development priority for coalition govt, says minister

Vijayawada: Minister for investments, infrastructure, roads and buildings B C Janardhan Reddy said here on Wednesday that the coalition government is prioritising the development of infrastructure, including roads, railways, airports, ports, and fishing harbours, along with their connectivity across the state. He stated that in line with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's vision, systematic steps are being taken to ensure the state has at least 20 ports and fishing harbours combined, and specifically 14 airports, as part of a future-oriented action plan. In a statement outlining various ongoing development initiatives in the state, Janardhan Reddy confirmed that the state government has authorised the Andhra Pradesh Airport Development Corporation Limited to proceed with the tender process for selecting consultants. These consultants will prepare the Techno-Economic Feasibility Study Reports (TEFR) for the proposed greenfield airport projects in Nagarjuna Sagar and Ongole. He added that district collectors have already identified suitable sites for these two airports, and the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has completed preliminary feasibility studies. Approval has already been given for the consultant selection tender process for TEFR preparation for the Amaravati and Kuppam airports. The state government has granted administrative approval for two development projects at Kurnool Airport for the 2025-26 fiscal year including Rs 3.6 crore for correcting the Runway End Safety Areas (RESA) and other maintenance works and Rs 4.433 crore for providing a taxiway to the Flying Training Organisation (FTO) at Kurnool Airport. Janardhan Reddy said that the government has reconstituted a 12-member Technical Evaluation Committee to review bids for the selection of consultants and developers for airport projects undertaken by the Airport Development Corporation Limited in the state. Approval has been granted for the payment of bills totalling Rs 70.82 crore to 29 organisations previously owed by AP State FiberNet Limited (APSFL). The minister announced that the 7th State-Level Sagarmala meeting will be held on July 4 with Central and state government officials. Chaired by him as the minister for investments and infrastructure, the meeting will discuss various aspects, including the supervision, development, progress of ongoing projects under the Sagarmala project, and proposals for new projects.

GDA seeks ₹2,400 cr for 21 infrastructure projects

Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has submitted a list of 21 infrastructure projects to the Uttar Pradesh housing and urban planning department and sought ₹2,441.9 crore as funds for their execution, officials said Wednesday. Officials said a demand was raised to seek funds under the 16th Finance Commission. The list of projects includes demand for funds for major projects like the Metro extension from Sector 62, Noida to Sahibabad, for construction of slip roads of the Hindon elevated road; for multi-level automated parking in Raj Nagar District Centre; for redevelopment and beautification of 124 acres of city forest at Karhera; and for development of different zonal plan roads, among other facilities. 'The list of 21 projects and the funds required has been sent to state officials. The GDA has only sought the construction costs involved, and the land costs would be borne by the authority,' said GDA media coordinator Rudresh Shukla. The discussions about funds were held during a video conference on May 14, officials said. Senior UP housing board officials recently visited Ghaziabad, and sought construction of two slip roads to join the 10.3 kilometre (km) Hindon elevated road. Under the plan, the GDA has proposed to build two ramps on the Hindon Elevated Road - an entry ramp in Indirapuram on the carriageway from Raj Nagar Extension to UP Gate and an exit ramp in Vasundhara on the carriageway from UP Gate to Raj Nagar Extension. The GDA has sought ₹200 crore funds to execute the project. As regards the Metro extension, the plans have been underway since 2020, but the denial of funding by the state government has hindered the project. In January 2020, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) submitted two detailed project reports (DPRs) to GDA -- one of ₹1,517 crore for the Sector 62 to Sahibabad route, and the other of ₹1,808.22 crore for the Vaishali to Mohan Nagar route. In 2023, the authority decided to go ahead with the Sector 62 to Sahibabad route. The UP government had denied funds for the link in January 2023. Later, in May 2023, it again declined the authority's request for 50% funding for the proposed Metro Link. In January 2024, the DMRC submitted revised cost estimates of ₹1,873.31 crore for this route. The GDA in its list has now sought funds of ₹1,873.31 crore for the Metro extension. 'Since GDA has limited funds, it has sought funding for these 21 projects from the Centre's 16th Finance Commission. The authority, with a lot of effort, was able to settle its two major loans amounting to about ₹1,500 crore in April. So, we now intend to go ahead with these projects,' Shukla added.
