The official launch event of Hästens, the world-renowned Swedish luxury bed brand, took place on May 28th at Tivoli Furniture Showroom in Al Rayyan.
The event was attended by His Excellency Mr. Gautam Bhattacharyya, Ambassador of Sweden to the State of Qatar, who delivered a speech on this occasion, stating:
"Hästens is an embodiment of the Swedish philosophy that true luxury is found in the things that nourish us — not just materially, but also in spirit and well-being. I am proud to see this icon of Swedish craftsmanship and sixth-generation family entrepreneurship present in Qatar, a country renowned for its appreciation for high quality concepts"
The event also welcomed an exclusive guest list of distinguished figures from both the public and private sectors, alongside high-profile media representatives and influencers, all gathered to experience the essence of a brand that is redefining sleep across the globe.
Now officially available in Doha through Tivoli, Hästens brings over 170 years of heritage, craftsmanship, and innovation to the Qatari market. Known for its commitment to natural materials and handcrafted excellence, Hästens is not just a bed, it is a revolution in the way we rest, recover, and live.
Each bed is meticulously handmade in Sweden using natural, breathable materials such as horsehair, cotton, wool, and flax. These components are hypoallergenic, temperature-regulating, and designed to support the body's natural posture, offering an unmatched level of comfort and deep rest.
Unlike conventional beds made with synthetic foams and chemicals, Hästens beds adapt to the body rather than forcing the body to adjust to the bed. This results in better spinal alignment, pressure relief for joints, and an overall sensation of lightness upon waking—qualities that have earned Hästens a devoted following worldwide.
In fact, many of the world's most prominent celebrities, professional athletes, and political figures choose Hästens for their homes, recognizing its unique ability to enhance rest, recovery, and overall well-being.
The launch event also introduced guests to the brand's signature Sleep Spa Experience, an immersive environment where visitors can disconnect, recharge, and rediscover the power of true rest. With personalized consultations and thoughtfully designed spaces, Hästens invites customers to prioritize their well-being by elevating the way they sleep.
Hästens is now available exclusively at Tivoli, marking a new era of luxury and wellness-focused living in Doha.

60,000 people in Sri Lanka to benefit from QC's relief and development aid project

Tribune News Network Doha With support from philanthropists in Qatar, Qatar Charity (QC) has launched a relief and development aid distribution project in Sri Lanka. The launch event was attended by representatives from the Sri Lankan government, the Embassy of the State of Qatar, civil society, and several other donors. This initiative forms part of QC's broader collaborative efforts to respond to the aftermath of natural disasters, support individuals with special needs, and empower vulnerable families. The project targets approximately 60,000 people from vulnerable and displaced groups, covering 14 product categories, including grain and spice grinding machines, sewing machines, manual and electric wheelchairs, furniture and desks, blood pressure monitors, and other tools that contribute to improving the daily lives of sisterly families and joint development efforts. In his speech, Mahmoud Abu Khalifa, director of QC's office in Sri Lanka, stated that the project aligns with the organisation's vision of ensuring a dignified life for all. He explained that the distribution of aid is not a substitute for long-term support, but rather a strategic step towards economic empowerment and poverty reduction—particularly for vulnerable, displaced, and disaster-affected families. The credit goes to the people of Qatar for their ongoing support of charitable, humanitarian, and development initiatives around the world, including their meaningful collaboration with government and local bodies in Sri Lanka, he said. Speaking on behalf of Munir Muzafer, deputy minister of justice and national integration, he expressed gratitude to Qatar Charity for its significant efforts in supporting the people of Sri Lanka over the past six years. These efforts included addressing the needs of individuals and families in need, as well as providing relief to those affected by floods. He also extended thanks to the State of Qatar and the Qatari Embassy for their vital role in supporting the Sri Lankan people, stressing the urgent need to facilitate continued cooperation and ensure the sustainability of these initiatives. At the launch, Ali Hassan Al-Emadi from the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Sri Lanka highlighted his direct contribution to the important work carried out by Qatar Aid, which reflects the civilised and humanitarian values upheld by the State of Qatar in promoting human dignity and civil peace. He also emphasised the importance of continued cooperation between Sri Lankan government agencies and Qatar Aid to ensure the sustainability of various contributions for the benefit of Sri Lankan society. R M Madhushika Kanchanamalisaid: 'I am very grateful for this assistance at a time when I was in dire need of support. Now I want to start a small business that will help ease my children's suffering. My thanks go to the donors and for the drops of gratitude they offer through New Hope. I hope this assistance reaches many more women like me.' It is worth noting that the Qatar Charity office in Sri Lanka, alongside the distribution of these items, is currently implementing several development projects. These include the construction of schools and health centres, the drilling of water wells, the establishment of housing for Qur'an readers, and a variety of social and community development initiatives aligned with Sri Lanka's strategic development goals across various sectors.

US, China all set to resume tariff talks in effort to keep sharply higher tariffs at bay

Agencies Stockholm Senior US and Chinese negotiators meet in Stockholm on Monday to tackle longstanding economic disputes at the centre of the countries' trade war, aiming to extend a truce keeping sharply higher tariffs at bay. China is facing an August 12 deadline to reach a durable tariff agreement with President Donald Trump's administration, after Beijing and Washington reached a preliminary deal in June to end weeks of escalating tit-for-tat tariffs. Without an agreement, global supply chains could face renewed turmoil from duties exceeding 100 percent. The Stockholm talks, led by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, take place a day after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen meets Trump at his golf course in Scotland to try to clinch a deal that would likely see a 15 percent baseline tariff on most EU goods. Trade analysts on both sides of the Pacific say the discussions in the Swedish capital are unlikely to produce any breakthroughs but could prevent further escalation and help create conditions for Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping to meet later this year. Previous US-China trade talks in Geneva and London in May and June focused on bringing US and Chinese retaliatory tariffs down from triple-digit levels and restoring the flow of rare earth minerals halted by China and Nvidia H20 AI chips and other goods halted by the United States. So far, the talks have not delved into broader economic issues. They include US complaints that China's state-led, export-driven model is flooding world markets with cheap goods, and Beijing's complaints that US national security export controls on tech goods seek to stunt Chinese growth. 'Stockholm will be the first meaningful round of US-China trade talks,' said Bo Zhengyuan, Shanghai-based partner at China consultancy firm Plenum. Trump has been successful in pressuring some other trading partners, including Japan, Vietnam and the Philippines, into deals accepting higher US tariffs of 15 percent to 20 percent. He said there was a 50-50 chance that the US and the 27-member European Union could also reach a framework trade pact, adding that Brussels wanted to 'make a deal very badly'. Two of Trump's top trade officials, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, will attend the Scotland talks and then travel to Stockholm. Analysts say the US-China negotiations are far more complex and will require more time. China's grip on the global market for rare earth minerals and magnets, used in everything from military hardware to car windshield wiper motors, has proved to be an effective leverage point on US industries. In the background of the talks is speculation about a possible meeting between Trump and Xi in late October. Trump has said he will decide soon whether to visit China in a landmark trip to address trade and security tensions. A new flare-up of tariffs and export controls would likely derail any plans for a meeting with Xi. 'The Stockholm meeting is an opportunity to start laying the groundwork for a Trump visit to China,' said Wendy Cutler, vice president at the Asia Society Policy Institute. Bessent has already said he wants to work out an extension of the August 12 deadline to prevent tariffs snapping back to 145 percent on the US side and 125 percent on the Chinese side. Still, China will likely request a reduction of multi-layered US tariffs totaling 55 percent on most goods and further easing of US high-tech export controls, analysts said. Beijing has argued that such purchases would help reduce the US trade deficit with China, which reached $295.5 billion in 2024. China is currently facing a 20 percent tariff related to US fentanyl crisis, a 10 percent reciprocal tariff, and 25 percent duties on most industrial goods imposed during Trump's first term. Bessent has also said he would discuss with He the need for China to rebalance its economy away from exports toward domestic consumer demand. The shift would require China to put an end to a protracted property crisis and boost social safety nets to encourage household spending. Michael Froman, a former US trade representative during Barack Obama's administration, said such a shift has been a goal of US policymakers for two decades. 'Can we effectively use tariffs to get China to fundamentally change their economic strategy? That remains to be seen,' said Froman, now president of the Council on Foreign Relations think-tank.
