Love Island star Malin Andersson calls for ITV dating show to be axed as she brands it 'toxic' and claims it made her feel 'disposable, like rubbish tossed aside'

Malin Andersson has called for Love Island to be axed and branded it 'toxic', claiming the ITV show made her feel 'disposable'.
The star, 32, shot to fame after appearing on the popular dating show all the way back in the second series in 2016.
But since her appearance, Malin has been outspoken on how she struggled with her mental health in the years after leaving the villa.
Now, the reality star is calling for the show to be cancelled as she revealed she hasn't watched any of the recent series.
'I haven't watched any of them, it should be axed,' she told The Mirror on Sunday.
'I felt disposable, like a piece of rubbish tossed aside,' she said, adding: 'The whole thing is toxic and should go in the bin.'
MailOnline has contacted representatives for Malin and Love Island for comment.
Last year, Malin gave some important advice to anyone hoping to go on a reality TV show, warning that they need to be sure they can handle it ahead of time.
She was 24 years old when she entered the villa, during the time widely seen as the beginning of Love Island's peak popularity.
As a result Malin and her fellow Islanders like Olivia and Alex Bowen, Cara De La Hoyde, and Kady McDermott, were among the first to experience the sudden overnight fame that comes with being on the ITV2 show.
She issued a stark warning to those who want to follow in her footsteps, admitting she had been a 'very dark place' after leaving the villa.
Love Island has been hit with backlash in recent years following the tragic suicides of former contestants Mike Thalassitis and Sophie Gradon, as well as host Caroline Flack.
Speaking to MailOnline about the debate surrounding the effect of reality shows on stars' mental health, Malin said she felt people should only go on if they knew they deal with the difficult parts as well.
She said: 'From coming from a reality TV background - who I was when I came out of Love Island, it's a very dark place to be. And that happens with a lot of these shows.
'If you know can stand on your own two feet and say you're cool with all of the stuff that comes with it, I say do it.
'But what I didn't know was that I thought I could deal with it at the time, and when I came out I couldn't. And then I went through so much trauma, that made it worse.'
She added: 'I think if you have things in your mental health to work out and know that you can't do it, then don't chase the fame, chase the healing.'
Several former Islanders has spoken about how their life changed once leaving the villa, including self-esteem issues and depression.
Laura Anderson said she began doubting her appearance, Zara McDermott admitted she struggled not to be 'self-obsessed' due to social media and Samira Mighty admitted that on her worst days she 'hates' her life and struggles to get out of bed.
Malin has admitted she was 'vulnerable' on Love Island and wasn't in the state of mind to find the connection she was looking for, leading to further 'trauma'.
She revealed that her deep desire to be loved contributed to her getting into abusive relationships, because she didn't know her own worth.
She explained: 'When I went through my abusive relationships it was really me screaming I want to be loved.
'I don't love myself, so I'll accept any kind of love - even if it's abuse. And when I realised that and let them go, I could really see I was creating that in my life.'
Malin has been very candid about her experiences with domestic violence and has campaigned for abuse survivors.
Her former boyfriend Tom Kemp was jailed for 10 months in 2020, after admitting to an assault on her that left her 'black and blue' with a broken hand.
He was the father of Malin's baby girl Consy, who tragically died with a heart defect in January 2019, just one month after being delivered at 33 weeks.
The couple met in late 2017 and Malin has been open about the abuse and emotional torment she suffered while in the on/off relationship.

'It's with a heavy heart I share that Tammy and I have decided to separate,' Matt began. Our time together will always be cherished and never forgotten,' he added, before thanking fans for their support. 'I've made not the best choices when it comes to relationships. I'm good at putting on rose-coloured glasses. 'Obviously the worst part for me is that I have kids. Tammy first sparked concern in March after she was spotted crying in a bathroom, while Matt was later overheard allegedly 'talking crap' about his wife at a South Melbourne gym. The truth behind Shaughna Phillips' second pregnancy REVEALED after Love Island star continues romance with drug dealer boyfriend despite prison sentence

Shaughna Phillips shocked fans over the weekend after she revealed she is pregnant with her second child. Taking to Instagram to share the news the Love Island star, 31, posted a video of herself taking a pregnancy test, but did not reveal who the father of her baby is as she wrote: 'Adding a little more love to our family…' And now The Sun has revealed that Shaughna is once again preparing to welcome a child with Billy Webb, who is also the father of her first child. Following the birth of their daughter Lucia in April 2023, Billy, 29, was sentenced to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to supply 4.5kg of cocaine worth at least £360,000. However Shaughna and Billy have been enjoying family days out over the past seven months while he has been on day release from an open prison. An insider said: 'Billy has been in a Category D prison, which means he has been able to spend a fair bit of time with Shaughna. 'He even managed to be home over Christmas, which meant a lot to her and, of course, Lucia. He hasn't been released as many people thought, but he has a lot of privileges.' In Category D prisons inmates have minimal security and those deemed 'low risk' inmates are allowed to leave the site to work, 'resettle' or attend education during the day. MailOnline have contacted Shaughna's representatives for comment. Shaughna revealed the couple had spent Christmas together in December after the family reunited to enjoy a Christmas grotto together. Sharing an adorable video to her Instagram, the reality star revealed that she and her partner had taken Lucia to see Santa and added she never thought this day would come. She captioned the clip: 'If you had told me this time last year, that me and Billy would be taking Lucia to see Santa next Christmas, I probably wouldn't have let myself believe you 'The best couple of days, this Christmas is going to be so special'. The blonde bombshell has been very open with her fans throughout the ordeal and previously revealed on her podcast Oh, Baby with Shaughna and Holly that she had struggled to come to terms with the situation. Taking to Instagram to share the news she posted a video of herself taking a pregnancy test, but did not reveal who the father of her baby is She also shared a sweet video of her daughter Lucia, two, wearing a t-shirt saying 'Big Sis' and 'In my big sister era' to go with the announcement She said: 'It's the most gut-wrenching position to be in. 'And, I mean, before I even answer this question, I want to just put it out there that you can judge me all you want, but please don't let me know, because I feel like unless you've been in this position you can't really have an opinion on it. 'Because before I was in this position, before I had a baby, if you had asked me would I ever, ever take my child into a prison, the answer would be absolutely not. Anyone that does that is crazy. 'And then, lo and behold, I'm now in this position. And I think the thing is, we're always going to be co-parents. 'And I know that me and my dad had the best relationship ever, and to me, my dad is the best person in the world. 'And I don't want Lucia to think differently of her father. I would never, ever stop him from seeing her, ever.'

Jailed Love Island star Cashel Barnett accused of sexually assaulting his ex in front of their child

Love Island star Cashel Barnett has been hit with a new sexual assault charge after he was thrown in jail last month for allegedly beating his ex. Barnett, 34, who appeared on season one of the dating show in 2019, was originally booked into Salt Lake City jail in Utah after he 'choked' the mother of his one-year-old child in front of the youngster on April 10. He was charged with felony aggravated assault, domestic violence in the presence of a child and two counts of misdemeanor assault. Utah prosecutors have now levelled three new charges against Barnett involving the same alleged victim - first-degree aggravated sexual assault, third-degree aggravated assault, and third-degree domestic violence in the presence of a child between November and December 2024. Barnett has denied all the charges. Per court documents obtained by Barnett allegedly grabbed his ex-girlfriend from behind, pushed her head into the couch rendering her unconscious, before 'violently' raping her in front of their child in December 2024. It was claimed this came after he 'withheld any physical contact for a month' after the alleged victim 'asked him to get a job to help support their child.' Per the alleged victim's statement, the alleged assault began when Barnett 'put his hands down the victim's pants' and when she kissed him back, he allegedly shoved her off the couch and told her 'she didn't 'get that' because she was 'in trouble".' The victim claims she told Barnett he was 'being manipulative' and when she tried to walk to her bedroom, Barnett allegedly 'grabbed both of her hands from behind her, demonstrated the handcuff position, then picked her up and did a 'swoop onto the couch.'' Per the statement Barnett then pulled his pants down and screamed at her 'Is this what you f*****g want?' and 'Are you f*****g happy now?' The alleged victim said due to being forced into the couch she couldn't breathe and lost consciousness for approximately one minute. She claimed she was woken when Barnett 'sat her up, slapped her across the face really hard and just kept going.' The alleged victim claims Barnett 'violently' raped her and strangled her again, leaving her 'lightheaded.' The statement claims the assault only stopped when she 'grabbed their one-year-old child, who was crying.' Barnett is being held without bail and will be arraigned this week. has contacted Barnett's representatives for comment and has yet to hear back. His attorney told TMZ in a statement:'Mr. Barnett maintains his innocence and denies any wrongdoing. 'My client and his family are enduring an incredibly difficult time, and we hope that his privacy will be respected as we work diligently to defend his name and reputation.' Last month Barnett was accused of arguing with the mother of his child, before she tried to hug him to 'calm him down' during the alleged April 10 incident, per KUTV. She claims he then 'slapped her arms away' and when she walked away, he allegedly picked her up by the neck and threw her onto the bed She claims he continued to apply pressure on her neck so she was unable to 'breathe or see clearly.' She claims Barnett then slapped her in the face and told her 'you're fine'. Following the alleged incident, the victim said she experienced coughing, trouble swallowing, neck pain, nausea, vomiting, memory loss, and a headache. Prosecutors wrote in court documents: 'The report of strangulation is particularly concerning. Injuries related to strangulation can be serious, yet not necessarily apparent. 'Victims who have been non-fatally strangled are 7.5 times more likely to become a subsequent victim of homicide at the hands of the same abusive partner.' 'The State believes that the victim will likely suffer further domestic abuse at the hands of the defendant should he remain out of custody. Therefore, the State requests that the defendant be booked and held without bail' prosecutors argued. As well as Love Island, he appeared on The Challenge in 2022 and now works as a model and musician.
