Sawant criticises teachers for not preparing students for NEET, JEE

. Speaking at the launch of the Goa Career Navigator programme for students, he said that he came across a few students who nurtured ambitions of becoming engineers but were not advised about appearing for JEE.

'There are some students who have no idea about NEET and JEE. Around four days ago, I met a few students who told me that they did not appear for JEE but want admission to the engineering college. I asked them why, and they said they did not know about it. If a higher secondary school student does not know about this, I wonder what they are taught. If the teacher does not tell the student that they need to sit for JEE and fill the forms on time, what else can they teach?' said Sawant.
Addressing the students in the audience, Sawant told them not to rely on others to decide their career path but to work towards their goals from high school itself.
'This is the right age and right time. Decide according to your skills, your passion, your hobbies. Every child's career has to be built. No doubt, not every student will become a doctor, engineer, teacher, or nurse, as there are other careers,' said Sawant.
He launched the Goa Career Navigator 2025, an AI-powered career guidance initiative by the State Council of Educational Research and Training and Unocue, which is expected to reach over 18,000 students across Goa.
The programme is aimed at students of Classes IX and X and also includes Career UDAAN, Career Compass Handbook, and Career Ambassador Clubs to enhance career awareness and leadership among students.
Sawant told students there are vast career opportunities in Goa they should aim for.

NEP push in Delhi puts focus on Indian knowledge systems in teacher training
The Bharatiya Janata Party government in Delhi has pushed for the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasises the study of Indian knowledge systems (IKS) in schools. This has led to the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Delhi, to become 'more focused' on training its students on integrating IKS into their lesson plans, said Professor Abha Sharma, Principal, SCERT's Division. 'We had been trying to integrate it [IKS training in the two-year programme] for the past couple of years. But it became possible only after a push by the new government in Delhi to implement the NEP,' Prof. Sharma told The Hindu. She added that the training is aimed at teaching 'things that are not necessarily taught in books, in an attempt to create global teachers with 21st-century skills'. As an example, she cites a popular claim in India, 'We have always been taught that the Wright brothers flew the first aircraft. But the first aircraft was actually flown in India by Bapuji Talpade in Mumbai in 1895, eight years before the Wright brothers.' 'Chemicals in Mahabharata' As part of the IKS training, the students are also being taught about how Sushruta performed an eye surgery as far back as the 6th century and how certain chemicals are mention in the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata. The budding teachers are expected to use their training while teaching their respective subjects at schools to help 'students learn more about India's culture'. Prof. Sharma said that they began placing a greater emphasis on IKS training for the 2023-2025 batch, which graduated recently. 'We will now do it more comprehensively for the newer batches. The students will be trained on how to make their pedagogy plans using the pancha kosha philosophy,' she added. The concept of 'pancha kosha (five layers)' of consciousness has its origins in the Upanishads. The NEP, which aims to integrate IKS in all levels of education, states, 'The rich heritage of ancient and eternal Indian knowledge and thought has been a guiding light for this policy. The pursuit of knowledge (jnan), wisdom (pragya), and truth (satya) was always considered in Indian thought and philosophy as the highest human goal.' 'Will use it in school' Koushiki Chatterjee, who specialises in chemistry and was part of the batch that just passed out said, 'In the Mahabharata, Arjuna used certain chemicals as make-up to disguise himself as a woman. While teaching chemistry during an internship, I mentioned it to my students.' Deepali, a second-year student who will be teaching at a school in August as part of her internship, said, 'While teaching chemistry, I can teach students about the states of matter, and how ice melts, while touching upon the concept of annamaya kosha (the outer physical layer of the body, which is one of pancha koshas).' 'Pranamaya kosha (energy layer) comes into play when I am teaching students about how liquid changes to gas, as there is a transfer of energy,' she added. Similarly, Ms. Deepali said she will employ the concept of anandamaya kosha (the spiritual level) when asking students 'to reflect on where they see chemistry in their daily lives'.

Citizen Service Centres to come up at three new locations
Panaji : The Goa Information Technology Development Corporation (GITDC) intends to set up new citizen service centres (CSC) in Dharbandora, Sanquelim, Panaji and Bicholim. The corporation will spend close to 90 lakh to setup the facilities, which will enable citizens to get access to different govt services from one location. CSC is a single-window facilty that provides govt services to the citizen in a time-bound manner. These facilities cater to all online and offline citizen services provided by various departments for a fee. The major benefits of CSCs are that it provides a single window counter to avail the services and citizen need not visit multiple govt offices. Interestingly, while govt has been pushing for CSCs as a means to make it simple for citizens to access govt services, the CSC operators and village-linked entrepreneurs (VLEs) who serve as gramin mitras, are struggling with delays and flawed integration with Goa's digital services. A delegation of CSC and VLE representatives met chief minister Pramod Sawant at Ravindra Bhavan, Sanquelim on Sunday to draw his attention to concerns such as delayed incentives, loan scheme implementation, pending bills, and integration into Goa's digital services. Sawant assured them that he would resolve their concerns. The CSCs also provide status updates of the application via SMS to the applicant. The GITDC wants the new CSCs to be ready within four months once the contractor is appointed. The contractor for the project will have to provide a defect liability period for three years after the date of completion According to the GEL, govt currently has CSCs at Mapusa bus stand, Pernem, Honda KTC bus stand, at Margao's Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex, Canacona KTC bus stand, Quepem govt office complex, Sanguem govt office building and Ponda KTC bus stand.

Maharashtra CET Cell issues clarification after video alleges discrepancy in provisional merit list
After the emergence of a viral video alleging discrepancies in the provisional merit list for engineering admissions in the state, Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has issued a clarification stating that the claims in the video are baseless. Stating that such baseless allegations cast doubt on performance of hard-working candidates, CET Cell has appealed to candidates and parents not to believe such claims. As engineering admissions are underway in the state, the provisional merit list was declared on July 19. Soon after a video is being circulated among engineering aspirants where an unknown person alleges that there are problems in the provisional merit list for BE/ (Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Technology) admissions. The video alleged that among the candidates who have scored 100 percentile and are ranked at the top of this provisional merit list, there are some who have low scores in Physics Chemistry Mathematics (PCM) combination of subjects in Class 12 marks; further raising questions on how this is possible. However, CET Cell in a written clarification issued for information of candidates and parents, states, 'There is a difference between calculation between percentile and percentage. The method of calculation is declared before the CET exams and the candidates are well versed with it. The performance of a candidate in CET cannot be compared with his/her Performance in HSC exam as candidates focus the effort and study on CET exams as it is an eligibility test for admission.' Further appealing to candidates and parents to not to believe such baseless claims, the clarification note further states, 'In CET 2025 results, there were 22 Candidates across 15 sessions who have scored 100 Percentile. Out of these 22 Candidates, only 8 Candidates have applied for the CAP process. It means that others have opted for other higher education institutes such as IITs and NITs. Therefore, they were toppers in both the exams. Further, other candidates have scored more than 95% Percentile in JEE (Main), however they have considerably lower Percentile in CET exam. Other Candidates have high JEE (Main) Percentile score against low HSC score. Therefore, such selective comparison is futile and irresponsible.'
