Blow for rail passengers as buses to replace trains over bank holiday weekend

Rail passengers in a part of south Wales face significant disruption during the upcoming bank holiday weekend due to 'major refurbishment work' being carried out on a bridge.
Network Rail has announced that works will take place on Coedtrehen bridge across four days later in August, meaning buses will replace trains for two whole days between Bridgend and Maesteg. The work is being carried out from the evening of Friday, August 22, to the evening of Monday, August 25. However, it is hoped that rail services will only be disrupted on Saturday, August 23, and Sunday, August 24.
Network Rail has thanked passengers for their patience during this period and advised people to check and plan their journeys in advance online.
A spokesperson for Network Rail said: 'Network Rail Wales and Borders will be carrying out major refurbishment work on Coedtrehen bridge near Maesteg Road over the August bank holiday weekend.
"From 10pm on Friday, August 22, until 5pm on Monday, August 25, our teams will be working around the clock to complete improvements to the bridge, including strengthening, painting, and resurfacing.
"As a result, buses will replace trains between Bridgend and Maesteg on Saturday August 23, and Sunday August 24.
"We are working to keep disruption to a minimum and thank passengers and railway neighbours for their patience and understanding while this essential work takes place."
