Rail passengers in a part of south Wales face significant disruption during the upcoming bank holiday weekend due to 'major refurbishment work' being carried out on a bridge.
Network Rail has announced that works will take place on Coedtrehen bridge across four days later in August, meaning buses will replace trains for two whole days between Bridgend and Maesteg. The work is being carried out from the evening of Friday, August 22, to the evening of Monday, August 25. However, it is hoped that rail services will only be disrupted on Saturday, August 23, and Sunday, August 24.
Network Rail has thanked passengers for their patience during this period and advised people to check and plan their journeys in advance online.
A spokesperson for Network Rail said: 'Network Rail Wales and Borders will be carrying out major refurbishment work on Coedtrehen bridge near Maesteg Road over the August bank holiday weekend.
"From 10pm on Friday, August 22, until 5pm on Monday, August 25, our teams will be working around the clock to complete improvements to the bridge, including strengthening, painting, and resurfacing.
"As a result, buses will replace trains between Bridgend and Maesteg on Saturday August 23, and Sunday August 24.
"We are working to keep disruption to a minimum and thank passengers and railway neighbours for their patience and understanding while this essential work takes place."

Unimpressed UK tourist in Turkey gives travel warning and exclaims 'don't bother'
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Turkey continues to be a top pick for British holidaymakers, with a whopping 4.4 million UK tourists visiting the country in 2024. Time Out has ranked Turkey as the eighth most popular destination for Brits, just behind favourites like Spain, France, and Greece, with visitor numbers on the rise each year. However, one Welsh TikToker, known as @northwalesboii, has a blunt message for those considering Turkey for their next jaunt: "Don't bother". He took to social media to share his disappointment after his summer trip to Turkey was marred by high costs. In his video, he lamented the steep prices, advising would-be travellers that they'll need to bring "a lot of money" if they want to enjoy their Turkish holiday. While he didn't mention where in Turkey he stayed, the country boasts renowned spots such as Istanbul, Cappadocia, Antalya, and coastal gems like Marmaris. The disgruntled tourist warned: "Just to let you know, if you're coming on holiday to Turkey, bring a lot of money. You will spend it. Everything has gone up," reports the Mirror. "It never used to be so expensive; it used to be so dirt cheap to come here. To eat out, to drink no more. It is f***ing expensive." Views were split amongst those responding to the footage. Some agreed that costs had certainly escalated, with many people sharing tales from their recent getaways of being stung 400 Turkish Lira for a pint, which works out at approximately £7.30. One person observed: "I go three times a year, and you are correct, it's gotten expensive. It will go up again. Next year, we're looking at different places." However, others insisted that their most recent visits remained "cheaper than the UK". A holidaymaker argued: "Don't know what part you went to. We have just got back from Antalya, had a great time, and it was cheaper than the UK. ". Another added: "I don't know where you guys are going, but it's really cheap in Turkey. I do a lot of shopping and the food is cheap as well. ". Come 2024, visitors were cautioning that runaway price rises could turn Turkey into a "ghost town" within a few years, with one individual bemoaning that holiday destinations were "becoming like London prices." He stated at the time: "I'm sat in this place now - for a burger it's £12. For a water it's £2 - it's becoming like London prices. "My sister, and her little family, said they're not going to come back again. ""I've seen some posts on here where people are saying, give it a few more years, and Turkey's going to be dead."

Welsh lad holidaying in Turkey warns people not to 'bother' going for one reason
Turkey ranks as one of Britain's favourite holiday destinations, with an impressive 4.4 million UK visitors flocking there in 2024. According to Time Out, this places it eighth on the list of most sought-after spots for British holidaymakers, trailing the likes of Spain, France, and Greece, though visitor numbers continue to climb annually. But one Welsh traveller has issued a stark warning to anyone considering Turkey as their next getaway, as he says, "don't bother". The individual, known as @northwalesboii on TikTok, shared his disappointment after jetting off for his summer break, expressing frustration with one particular aspect of his trip. In his online post, the holidaymaker grumbled that costs had become "too expensive", urging prospective visitors to pack "a lot of money" if they're determined to go. Whilst he didn't specify his exact location, popular Turkish destinations include Istanbul, Cappadocia, Antalya, and coastal hotspots like Marmaris. He declared: "Just to let you know, if you're coming on holiday to Turkey, bring a lot of money. You will spend it. Everything has gone up. Warning: The below video contains strong language. "It never used to be so expensive; it used to be so dirt cheap to come here. To eat out, to drink out. Not no more. It is f***ing expensive." Opinions were divided among commenters on the video discussing holiday expenses in Turkey. Some concurred that prices had risen, with reports of being charged 400 Turkish Lira for a beer, equating to roughly £7.30. One viewer remarked: "I go three times a year, and you are correct, it's gotten expensive. It will go up again. Next year, we're looking at different places." But some maintained their recent trips were "cheaper than the UK." A commenter contested: "I don't know what part you went to. We have just got back from Antalya, had a great time, and it was cheaper than the UK." Another chimed in: "I don't know where you guys are going, but it's really cheap in Turkey. I do a lot of shopping and the food is cheap as well. " In 2024, some travellers expressed concerns that soaring inflation might render Turkey a "ghost town" within years, with one social media user comparing tourist spot prices to those in London. He recounted: "I'm sat in this place now - for a burger it's £12. For a water it's £2 - it's becoming like London prices.
