American sprinter Fred Kerley provisionally suspended for anti-doping 'whereabouts failures'
Lawyers for the 30-year-old Kerley hit back in a statement posted on the athlete's account on X.
'Fred Kerley has already notified the AIU that he intends to contest the allegation that he has violated the anti-doping rules related to whereabouts failures, as he strongly believes that one of (or) more of his alleged missed tests should be set aside either because he was not negligent or because the Doping Control Officer did not do what was reasonable under the circumstances to locate him at his designated location,' the statement said.
It added: 'Fred will not comment further at this time out of respect for the process, and looks forward to presenting his case to the appointed hearing panel.'
Kerley won the Olympic silver medal in the 100 meters at the Tokyo Games and the bronze in Paris last year. He has also earned six medals at the track and field world championships.
'You can try to break me in the storm, but all you're doing is giving me a better story at the finish line,' Kerley later posted on the same account.
In May, Kerley was charged in Florida with punching a woman, a hurdler who also competed in the Olympics. That came just a few months after he was arrested for allegedly punching a Miami Beach police officer on Jan. 2, an incident in which police used a Taser on him.
His lawyers say Kerley is innocent of those charges.

Images of the 32-year-old weeping as he signed a two-year contract with Monaco went viral on social media -- thus setting the tone for a very different type of graft. The arrival of the midfielder at Monaco represented more than just the return of a star name of French football to Ligue 1, it was clearly a marketing opportunity too good to pass up. Pogba was sent straight to work. First, he joined Zinedine Zidane for a video produced by their mutual sponsor, which garnered huge attention. Then, he took a trip to Saint Tropez with American influencer Darren Watkins Junior, who has 40 million followers under the name IShowSpeed. After that, he and his wife, Zulay, launched their new high-end jewellery brand, accompanied by a suitable social media campaign. Named 'Unbreakable', the jewellery collection is a direct nod to Pogba's recent travails. He was the victim in March 2022 of an attempt to extort 13 million euros ($15.1 million) from him by relatives, including his brother Mathias who was sentenced to three years in prison, with two years suspended, in 2024. Pogba was also injured for a long period and then suspended for 18 months after failing a drugs test while at Italian club Juventus in August 2023. - 'High intensity' - Since having his contract terminated by the Serie A outfit last November, Pogba had been living in the United States and training alone until Monaco came calling and offered him the chance to make his comeback. "A lot of boxes were ticked: the conditions, the lifestyle, France, Ligue 1, the family, and of course the club," explained Pogba, who will be playing club football in his home country for the first time in his professional career. Once back in a professional environment at Monaco, "the easy part was just beginning" for Pogba. If the exquisitely gifted ball-player was less worried about getting his touch back, rediscovering the fitness and intensity of an elite athlete would be more challenging. "He has started sessions on the pitch and is making progress. The timing is on track, the process is positive, with no red flags or setbacks so far." Pogba's progress is been closely monitored by Monaco coach Adi Huetter, who so far is impressed by his commitment and how quickly he has integrated into a squad in which he is the elder statesman. For Scuro the key moment will be "when (Pogba) is able to participate in all training sessions with the group". "The intensity, pressure and level are very high. He will have to be able to repeat this training load on a daily basis. We will then see how his body adapts." NEW YORK (AP) — Aaron Judge hit his first homer in nearly three weeks, Giancarlo Stanton had his first four-hit game in nearly two years, and the New York Yankees routed the Minnesota Twins 9-1 on Tuesday night. Carlos Rodón (12-7) allowed one hit in seven innings. He allowed a leadoff single to Austin Martin and cruised after a 31-pitch first inning. He became the first Yankee to complete seven innings since the left-hander pitched eight against the Cubs on July 11. Stanton went 4 for 5 for his first four-hit game since Aug. 24, 2023 against Washington. He doubled in his first at-bat, homered in the fifth and singled in his final two at-bats before getting lifted for a pinch runner following a two-run single. Judge homered for the first time since July 23 when he hit a drive off Minnesota rookie starter Travis Adams (1-2). Anthony Volpe hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the second as the Yankees beat the Twins for the ninth straight time. Stanton added a homer in the fifth to give the Yankees a 5-1 lead. Singer works 6 shutout innings, Steer drives in 3 runs as the Reds end Phillies' 4-game win streak
CINCINNATI (AP) — Brady Singer pitched six shutout innings, Spencer Steer drove in three runs and the Cincinnati Reds beat NL East-leading Philadelphia 6-1 Tuesday night, halting the Phillies' four-game win streak. Singer (10-9) gave up three of the Phillies' four hits, struck out six and didn't walk a batter. The 29-year-old right-hander faced the minimum of 17 batters over the first 5 2/3 innings with the only hit allowed being a single by Nick Castellanos, whose grounder deflected off the glove of shortstop Elly De La Cruz. Castellanos was erased on a double play in the fifth. Steer hit a two-run double in the third and Miguel Andujar added a solo homer for a 3-0 lead in the fourth. Andujar's eighth homer was his second since being traded to the Reds on July 31. Steer added a sacrifice fly and Jose Trevino had a two-run single in the sixth before the game was halted for 28 minutes by rain at the start of the seventh inning. Bryce Harper spoiled the Reds' shutout bid with a two-out homer, his 18th, off Sam Moll during a downpour in the ninth inning.
