Kashmiri garment business found injured in Lajpat Nagar park, dies
A 30-year-old Kashmiri garment business owner died, after he was found injured in a park in Lajpat Nagar, the Delhi Police said Wednesday.
Police said eyewitnesses and residents of the area claimed he was wandering around the locality on Tuesday before he started banging his head on the walls inside the park. 'One of the residents, also a doctor, informed the police and immediately took the victim to a hospital where he was undergoing treatment,' a police officer said. He later died.
His family alleged that he may have been attacked by unidentified people.
However, police said, prima facie, it appears the injuries were self-inflicted and the victim succumbed during treatment.
A police officer said the man's family said he would often come to Delhi to look after the family-run garment business. He had reached Delhi on May 20, they said.
His family members also said he suffered from migraine and that they couldn't contact him after 4 pm on Tuesday.
Police said further investigation is underway.
The body has been sent to his family in Kashmir's Sehyar Ali Kadal area after post-mortem proceedings were completed, police said.

23-year-old BTech graduate robs Uber, Rapido cab drivers in Delhi to repay debt, arrested
A BTech graduate aspiring for the Staff Selection Commission's Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam was arrested for allegedly robbing bike taxi drivers in Delhi after booking their services on Rapido or Uber apps, the Delhi Police said on Thursday. According to the police, the accused, identified as Javed Khan, 23, who hails from Rajasthan, allegedly committed the thefts at gunpoint on two occasions by taking the drivers to isolated spots at Gandhi Vihar and then fleeing with their motorbikes, phones, and cash. Khan has been staying in Delhi at a cramped location in Mukherjee Nagar since 2024, along with other students aspiring to be bureaucrats. He told the police that he decided to rob Rapido and Uber drivers to repay his debt of Rs 35,000 that he owed to a friend, Rahul. The police said that the first robbery took place early on May 31, in which Javed booked an Uber bike service from New Delhi railway station to Gandhi Vihar. His modus operandi was to ask the driver to cancel the ride and take him to the destination offline under the pretext that the driver could keep the fare commission, the police said. 'As soon as the rider arrived at 1.30 am, Javed told him that he would cancel the ride, to which the driver agreed. Around 2.30 am, when they reached Gandhi Vihar Drain, an isolated place near Yograj Colony, Khan held a country-made pistol at the waist of the driver, Sonu, and threatened him to stop the motorcycle,' said an officer. 'The accused then robbed him of the motorcycle, a mobile phone, and cash Rs 2,000 at gunpoint and fled away on the looted motorcycle,' Raja Banthia, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), said. In another similar incident, Rapido driver Pradeep Singh told the police that he got a booking from Nizamuddin Railway Station to Gandhi Vihar on Monday, said an officer. However, on reaching the railway station, the 'customer', Javed Khan, cancelled the ride, and on reaching an isolated area, Singh was robbed of Rs 600 cash and his mobile phone, he added. Tracking the CCTVs from NDLS to Gandhi Vihar in Timarpur, the Delhi Police traced Khan to the Sankalp Bhavan area on Wednesday. Khan is a resident of Bharatpur, Rajasthan, the police said. On interrogation, Khan revealed that he was in debt and was prompted by his friend to resort to crime so that he could repay his loan. 'Rahul provided him a country-made pistol with 17 live cartridges of .315 bore. and chalked out a plan for Khan to rob online motorcycle riders during odd hours. As per his planning, Khan booked the rides from different railway stations in late-night hours,' DCP Banthia said.

Congress's Pawan Khera raises questions over mysterious death of Kashmiri youth in Delhi
New Delhi [India], June 6 (ANI): Congress leader Pawan Khera expressed concern over the mysterious death of a young Kashmiri man, Zubair Ahmad Bhat, in Delhi, questioning the silence of mainstream media on the issue. In a post on X, on Thursday, Khera asked, 'In the capital city, a young Kashmiri dies under mysterious circumstances, and not a word of it gets discussed in mainstream media? If you don't question the authorities, obviously the authorities won't give you answers.' Khera demanded a response from the Delhi Police surrounding Bhat's death. 'Delhi Police needs to respond to questions surrounding the death of Zubair Ahmad Bhat,' Khera posted. People's Democratic Party (PDP) leaders have demanded answers and accountability over the death of Zubair Ahmed Bhat. In a post on X, PDP leader Iltija Mufti stated that Bhat's family alleges that he was picked up by Delhi police, questioned, and thrashed with rods, leading to his death. 'Zubair Ahmed Bhat didn't die under mysterious circumstances. Let me bite the bullet & state the unpleasant truth. His family claims he was picked up by Delhi police, questioned & thrashed with rods.' Mufti tweeted. Mufti questioned when the pattern of snuffing out the lives of innocent Kashmiris purely on suspicion would end, demanding answers and accountability. 'This 30-year-old man was the sole breadwinner for his mother & siblings. When will this pattern of snuffing out the lives of innocent Kashmiris purely on suspicion end? We demand answers & accountability,' she added. PDP General Secretary Mohammad Khurshid Alam also expressed his distress over Bhat's death, saying that the family suspects foul play and has evidence suggesting that he was assaulted. 'Deeply disturbed by the mysterious death of Zubair Ahmed Bhat from Srinagar in Delhi. Family suspects foul play and has evidence suggesting he was assaulted. Authorities must ensure a transparent investigation. Justice must be served.' Alam's tweet on X. In the official account on X, PDP stated that Iltija Mufti visited the family of Bhat at Aali Kadal, offered condolences, and assured them of full support in seeking a fair probe and justice. While speaking to reporters, Mufti said that Bhat's family alleged that he was picked up by Delhi police, beaten, and tortured, leading to his death. Mufti read Bhat's last message to his sister, in which he claimed that the police had caught him because he was a Kashmiri and beat him with sticks. Mufti said, 'They showed me his last message, which said the police caught him and took his Aadhaar card, Delhi Police. He messaged his sister and wrote, 'The police caught me because I am Kashmiri. They took my Aadhaar card, and then they beat me with sticks. I am in a hotel. May God have mercy. His family says he left Jammu for Delhi. After reaching Delhi, the police at one of the stations, I think it was Lajpat Nagar, caught Zubair, took his Aadhaar card, and beat him. The next day, when he went back to collect his Aadhaar card, they beat him again. And when he returned home... he died. This is what happened to Zubair.' Mufti also alleged that the hospital staff and the doctor treated him poorly. 'He was just 30 years old, an orphan, running the entire household. What was his crime? That he was a Kashmiri? I want to say this on record; even after his death, what happened to him was heartbreaking. The hospital staff, while he was trying to speak, while his brother was there beside him on the hospital bed, kept giving him injections. The doctor said that he shouldn't be treated because he was Kashmiri. So tell me, is being Kashmiri a crime now? God forbid, but what is our fault that we were born in Kashmir? What was Zubair's fault? That he was Kashmiri? He was a decent man, working hard. His sister's wedding is in August. He was earning honest money, halal money, to support his family. So what wrong had he done?' Mufti questioned the silence of the ruling government over Bhat's death, demanding to know why they were not speaking up for the family. Mufti also criticised the NC government for its silence over Bhat's death, saying that it was 'absolutely irresponsible'. 'Omar Sahib could at least have tweeted. Why is everyone so silent? Why are you compromising? What exactly are you compromising on? Our young boys, our youth, even the NC (National Conference) government, cannot protect them. Your MLAs spend their days inaugurating showrooms and restaurants. Is that why the people elected you? To cut ribbons? No. The people of Jammu and Kashmir elected you to protect every resident's life and dignity. But the NC government hasn't even spoken a word. There's pin-drop silence. It's absolutely irresponsible. I want to tell your MLAs: People didn't vote for you, so you could just go inaugurate showrooms every day. They sent you here to protect their lives, to speak up. Why is there silence in your mouths? Come here. Talk to the family,' she said. Mufti demanded that the government provide long-term relief to Bhat's family, including a government job to sustain themselves. 'This boy, on his face, elbows, legs, we have the pictures. He was tortured. There are drag marks. So why isn't the government talking about it? I have been told that because his sister's wedding is in August, he was working 11-12 hours a day. I request LG Sahib, and Omar Sahib too: Give this family long-term relief. Short-term relief is just cash- give them a government job so they can sustain themselves for the rest of their lives,' she said. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police is investigating the mysterious death of a Kashmiri youth in a park in the Lajpat Nagar area of South Delhi. According to police, a PCR call was received regarding the incident, which revealed that the youth had suffered a head injury. Preliminary investigation suggests that the youth may have inflicted the injury on himself, which led to excessive bleeding and ultimately, his death. Police believe that the youth may have been mentally disturbed, although this is being verified. An inquest proceeding has been conducted, and police will register an FIR only if something suspicious is found during the investigation. The police are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the youth's death. (ANI)

Bakr Eid: Snow-white goats and long-maned Kashmiri breeds dazzle at Jogeshwari Bakra Mandi; each priced at Rs 65,000–70,000
MUMBAI: Little Aman's eyes lit up as he set eyes on a pen of placid white goats in a Bakra Mandi in Jogeshwari Wednesday. He stood transfixed by their beauty, tugging at his parents Arshad and Sumaira Shaikh to take one home. With the festival of Eid ul' Azha or Bakr Eid due Saturday June 7, Bakra Mandis have come up in Muslim-dominated areas like Jogeshwari, Andheri hilltop (Dongar) and Mira Road. In Vaishali Nagar, Jogeshwari West, Haji Goat Farm with 40 stalls houses 4,000 beautiful animals brought by rearers from Gujarat, Rajasthan, UP, Kashmir and Maharashtra. Buyers from Lokhandwala Complex, Yari Road and Versova as well as Malad, Govandi, Kurla, even Nagpada who do not wish to travel to Deonar come here. They juxtapose their budget with the animal's beauty. Each goat costs a minimum of Rs 15,000 with an average rate of Rs 35,000-40,000. Pricier breeds come for Rs 65,000-70,000. These days, though, most are sold by body weight, around Rs 500-550 per kg. Each goat has a different temperament. Some love posing for selfies with their owners, others are shy. Kashmiri goats with their long mane and woolly Merino sheep look stately. One has a curled pair of horns while another has a heart shaped pattern across the chest. "We will choose a goat that has no defect and matches all criteria for Qurbani," said Aman's father. Mandi organiser, civil contractor Wasim Azim Khan alias Haji Sahab, started this facility during the lockdown in 2020. "We host farmers who sell breeds from Indore, Ajmer and Gujarat, apart from low fat goats that are preferred by Maharashtrian Muslims. Exotic Kashmiri goats have four or five horns," he said. Trader Naeem Umar Saleh who runs Fatima Farm in Vapi, Gujarat, said, "We source kid goats weighing 20-25 kg and rear them on our farm which houses 450-500 animals. This trade calls for heavy investment because the goats require expensive feed and proper medication. Select clients from Mumbai actually travel to our farm a month in advance to choose the best animals from breeds like Sojat, Gujri and Ajmera and take delivery once we come to Jogeshwari. The animals weigh upto 130-140 per kg. We sell goats for Rs 550 per kg and feel that customers should not bargain to reduce the price by Rs 20-30 per kg. The animal loses 8-10 kg just during the trip to Mumbai." Haji claimed they even refund money for defective goats though few buyers knew that. "We arrange transport and veterinary care for a fraction of market rate, and even care for goats till Eid if a customer has no space to keep them. Clients from Lokhandwala, Versova and Yari Road retain them with us. We feed, bathe and care for them till they arrive to take delivery on Eid," he said.
