Bakr Eid: Snow-white goats and long-maned Kashmiri breeds dazzle at Jogeshwari Bakra Mandi; each priced at Rs 65,000–70,000
MUMBAI: Little Aman's eyes lit up as he set eyes on a pen of placid white goats in a Bakra Mandi in Jogeshwari Wednesday. He stood transfixed by their beauty, tugging at his parents Arshad and Sumaira Shaikh to take one home.
With the festival of Eid ul' Azha or Bakr Eid due Saturday June 7, Bakra Mandis have come up in Muslim-dominated areas like Jogeshwari, Andheri hilltop (Dongar) and Mira Road. In Vaishali Nagar, Jogeshwari West, Haji Goat Farm with 40 stalls houses 4,000 beautiful animals brought by rearers from Gujarat, Rajasthan, UP, Kashmir and Maharashtra.
Buyers from Lokhandwala Complex, Yari Road and Versova as well as Malad, Govandi, Kurla, even Nagpada who do not wish to travel to Deonar come here.
They juxtapose their budget with the animal's beauty.
Each goat costs a minimum of Rs 15,000 with an average rate of Rs 35,000-40,000. Pricier breeds come for Rs 65,000-70,000. These days, though, most are sold by body weight, around Rs 500-550 per kg.
Each goat has a different temperament. Some love posing for selfies with their owners, others are shy. Kashmiri goats with their long mane and woolly Merino sheep look stately.
One has a curled pair of horns while another has a heart shaped pattern across the chest. "We will choose a goat that has no defect and matches all criteria for Qurbani," said Aman's father.
Mandi organiser, civil contractor Wasim Azim Khan alias Haji Sahab, started this facility during the lockdown in 2020. "We host farmers who sell breeds from Indore, Ajmer and Gujarat, apart from low fat goats that are preferred by Maharashtrian Muslims.
Exotic Kashmiri goats have four or five horns," he said.
Trader Naeem Umar Saleh who runs Fatima Farm in Vapi, Gujarat, said, "We source kid goats weighing 20-25 kg and rear them on our farm which houses 450-500 animals. This trade calls for heavy investment because the goats require expensive feed and proper medication. Select clients from Mumbai actually travel to our farm a month in advance to choose the best animals from breeds like Sojat, Gujri and Ajmera and take delivery once we come to Jogeshwari.
The animals weigh upto 130-140 per kg. We sell goats for Rs 550 per kg and feel that customers should not bargain to reduce the price by Rs 20-30 per kg. The animal loses 8-10 kg just during the trip to Mumbai."
Haji claimed they even refund money for defective goats though few buyers knew that. "We arrange transport and veterinary care for a fraction of market rate, and even care for goats till Eid if a customer has no space to keep them. Clients from Lokhandwala, Versova and Yari Road retain them with us. We feed, bathe and care for them till they arrive to take delivery on Eid," he said.

Cancer Daily Horoscope Today, June 07, 2025: Be fully honest with others
The energy of this day invites you to be fully honest with others and with yourself. You may feel emotions rising, but instead of pushing them away, look at them clearly. Speaking your truth softly will bring peace. Hiding feelings may cause more confusion. A moment of emotional clarity can change your direction. You don't need to explain everything to everyone. Just be real with yourself. From this space, the right steps will become clear without any extra effort. Cancer Love Horoscope Today In love, emotional honesty brings healing. If you've been hiding your feelings or trying to keep peace by avoiding truth, it may backfire. If you are in a relationship, speak openly—but gently—about what you feel. Don't try to protect your partner from truth; trust that they can handle it. If you are single, be real about what you are searching for in love. Pretending only delays real connection. Honest hearts attract honest love. Let clarity guide your choices today. Cancer Career Horoscope Today At work, clear communication will save you from mistakes or misunderstandings. Avoid sugar-coating or guessing what others want to hear. You don't need to be harsh, just truthful. If something is not working, speak up. You may feel emotional pressure at work, but staying silent will only build stress. A simple honest message can improve your relationships with colleagues and bring better focus to your tasks. Today is about being respectfully clear, not about keeping everyone happy. Cancer Money Horoscope Today Money matters also need clear thinking. You may discover that something you assumed financially is not fully true. Check your records or spending habits. If you've promised something, make sure you can deliver it. Don't borrow to please someone, and don't lend to avoid guilt. Truth in finances is a form of self-care. Keep your money habits clean and honest. A clear financial path gives peace of mind. Small corrections now will prevent bigger problems later. Cancer Health Horoscope Today Health-wise, emotional buildup may show in the body through tension, chest heaviness, or disturbed sleep. These are signs that you need emotional release. Talk to someone you trust, or express your feelings in writing. Avoid too much sugar or processed food today, as it may increase restlessness. Gentle movements like stretching or walking in nature can support both body and mind. When your emotions are expressed truthfully, your physical health naturally begins to feel lighter and stronger. UP CM adviser holds talks with Goswami community over Banke Bihari Corridor
Agra: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath's adviser Awanish Kumar Awasthi on Friday, chaired a meeting at the tourist facilitation centre in Vrindavan, to discuss issues related to the proposed Banke Bihari Corridor with members of the Goswami community involved in the management of the temple, local shopkeepers and residents. Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Awasthi said the proposed project aims to enhance facilities for pilgrims, and efficiently manage the increasing pilgrim footfall in the Mathura-Vrindavan area. "The number of pilgrims visiting the area is rising exponentially. Today's meeting focused on how to effectively cater to this surge while ensuring public confidence and participation in the planning process. This was the first round of discussions, and it was very productive," he said. On concerns raised by the Goswami community regarding the project, Awasthi said several suggestions had been put forth during the meeting. "The district magistrate and other officials will carefully evaluate these inputs. The state govt aims to proceed with the most inclusive and best possible option to take the project forward," Awasthi said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Established in 1862 in the heart of Vrindavan, the Shri Banke Bihari temple is administered by Shebaits — a hereditary priesthood responsible for daily rituals and temple management. It remains one of North India's most visited pilgrimage sites. The Supreme Court's May 15 verdict came amid ongoing protests by members of the Goswami community and local residents, who have opposed both the corridor project and the formation of Banke Bihari Temple Trust. The court's decision, delivered by a bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and SC Sharma, cleared the way for the govt to move ahead with its Rs 500 crore redevelopment plan, which includes acquiring nearly five acres of land near the shrine, using temple funds. Calls for redevelopment intensified after a stampede-like incident during Janmashtami celebrations in 2022, left two dead. In Sept 2023, the Allahabad high court directed the state govt to implement a corridor plan for improved crowd management and safety. While officials claim stakeholders were consulted, Shebaits and local residents have alleged they were excluded from the planning process. Story of a 17-year-old: From discontinuing studies to later clearing SSLC
Mysuru: Here's a touching narrative of resilience and determination. A student from the city discontinued formal schooling in Class VI, yet four years later achieved first-class results in the 2024-25 SSLC examination as a private candidate. This chronicles 17-year-old Rushil's journey. His family's separation during his Class III led to his relocation to Bengaluru with his father, where he enrolled in a public school. Financial constraints forced him to leave after completing Class VI, without obtaining a transfer certificate. He returned to Mysuru to live with his mother at his grandfather's residence. Despite attempts to secure admission in a Mysuru private school, the absence of documentation and substantial fees were barriers. In May 2022, his grandfather contacted Kaliyuva Mane, a free residential alternative school in Kenchalagudu. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Based on the affidavit submitted by his mother, Rushil qualified to appear for the SSLC examination as a private candidate. Sunil Raj HC, managing trustee of the Vishwaprajna Composite PU College, said, "We are running a charitable trust called Samartha Jnanashraya Charitable Trust. The main aim of this trust is offering free education. Last year we offered free education for 20 students in science stream." "This year, we are giving free education for 30 more students. Along with merit, we also consider various challenges faced by the students even if they didn't score good marks, like children of single parents, defence, poor families, etc., to offer free education.
