Arsenal defender Amanda Ilestedt will leave the club this summer when her current contract comes to an end.
The Gunners announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.
The 32-year-old Swedish international defender joined Arsenal from French club Paris Saint-Germain in summer 2023. Ilestedt has gone on to make 23 appearances for the North Londoners in all competitions in which she has scored three goals. The player won the Subway Women's League Cup with The Gunners last season while she could yet lift the UEFA Women's Champions League trophy should Arsenal defeat FC Barcelona in the final later this month.

Whilst on Arsenal's books, Ilestedt became pregnant and she gave birth to her daughter last year. Following her maternity leave, the defender returned to competitive action in January 2025.
Ilestedt is the second player to be leaving Arsenal this summer. Fellow Swedish international Lina Hurtig will also be moving on when her contract comes to an end.
Arsenal have opted to announce Ilestedt and Hurtig's departures ahead of the club's final home fixture of the season against Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. This will allow fans to thank the players for their efforts during their time playing in a red and white jersey.

Arsenal ‘advancing' in Benjamin Sesko transfer talks

Arsenal are advancing in talks to sign Benjamin Sesko but no agreement has been reached with RB Leipzig. Sesko has emerged as the leading target for Arsenal as the Gunners look to sign a centre-forward this summer. Arsenal failed with a move to sign the Slovenian striker 12 months ago but have returned with renewed interest. Advertisement Despite signing a new deal last summer, Sesko is now keen to leave Germany after Leipzig's failure to secure European qualification. The 22-year-old has a release clause of around €80m (£67.4m) in his contract but Arsenal are hopeful of negotiating a lower fee. However, any deal is expected to represent a club-record fee for a centre-forward, eclipsing the £56m spent to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in 2018. Arsenal progressing in Sesko transfer talks Fabrizio Romano has revealed that negotiations between the clubs are progressing but no agreement is expected imminently. Arsenal are relaxed on the situation and have also assessed the cost of signing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon. Sesko is a player endorsed by the recruitment team with the forward regarded as one of Europe's best number nine prospects. Advertisement He has scored 39 goals in 87 games since joining Leipzig from sister-club Red Bull Salzburg in 2023 and has netted 16 times in 41 caps for Slovenia. At five years younger than Gyokeres, Sesko is viewed as a more sensible long-term addition. The 6ft 5in forward would offer Arsenal an out-and-out forward presence, though Arteta remains a big believer in Kai Havertz's ability to fulfil the role. Havertz scored 13 goals in 27 starts for Arsenal before a hamstring injury sustained in February decimated the latter half of his 2024/25 campaign. Jorginho reached agreement with Arsenal before joining Flamengo

Jorginho ultimately did reach an agreement to terminate his Arsenal contract early, allowing him to play at the Club World Cup with Flamengo. Photo via Jorginho was announced as a new Flamengo player on Friday, and any doubts about whether he'd be joining his new club immediately or on July 1st were quickly put to bed. Advertisement That was the debate prior to the transfer, with Jorginho still technically having a contract with Arsenal until June 30th. If he couldn't reach an agreement to terminate early, he'd be unavailable for Flamengo in the early stages of the Club World Cup – with his new team's first game on June 17th. But Arsenal confirmed on Friday that they have reached a mutual agreement to terminate the deal a few weeks early, and Flamengo wrote that Jorginho's first match will indeed be at the Club World Cup. Photo byBrazilian outlet UOL had reported earlier this week that Jorginho would land in Rio de Janeiro on Friday to undergo medical examinations and to sign his contract with Flamengo, information which turned out to be correct. Advertisement UOL had also correctly reported that Jorginho would sign a deal to 2028, so it's worth putting some stock in their claim that the player had agreed to give up around £800,000 in compensation from Arsenal to terminate his contract early. That might seem like an overestimate, given Jorginho wasn't on £200,000-a-week wages at Arsenal. But the £800,000 figure supposedly includes bonuses as well, with players often due a loyalty bonus on the completion of their contracts. Photo byWith those reports appearing to be accurate, Arsenal and Flamengo will both benefit from their eventual agreements with Jorginho. The Gunners will save a decent chunk of money for a player who was leaving anyway, and Flamengo will have an experienced international available from the start of their Club World Cup campaign. Notably, Flamengo will have Jorginho as an option against former club Chelsea on June 20th.

Flamengo announce Jorginho as new signing

Flamengo have announced the signing of midfielder Jorginho, following confirmation from Arsenal that his contract has been ended by mutual consent with immediate effect. The 33-year-old, who represents Italy internationally but was born and brought up in Brazil, has now officially joined Flamengo on a three-year deal. Advertisement Jorginho made the move to Arsenal from Chelsea in January 2023 and quickly became a useful part of Mikel Arteta's squad. He featured 79 times for the Gunners and chipped in with two goals. Although he didn't always start, his leadership and experience were highly valued - so much so that he captained the side on several occasions. He arrives at Flamengo just in time for the expanded 32-team Club World Cup in the U.S. this year, where they'll be up against ES Tunis, LAFC, and Chelsea in the group stage.
