Brazilian Ribeiro wins four awards in South Africa
In other African news, Al Ahly forward Wessam Abou Ali has moved to Major League Soccer and French coach Romain Folz has taken charge of Tanzanian champions Young Africans.
South Africa
A clean sweep for Ribeiro saw him win the player of the season, voted by the 16 top-flight coaches, players' player of the season, goal of the season and leading league scorer awards.
These honours come after the goal scored by the 26-year-old Mamelodi Sundowns striker against Borussia Dortmund was voted the best of the 2025 Club World Cup in the United States.
Other foreigners to win awards were Zimbabwe goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze from shock League Cup winners Magesi and Miguel Cardoso, the Portuguese coach of champions Sundowns.
Egypt
Palestine international Abou Ali has moved from record 12-time African champions Al Ahly of Egypt to Ohio-based Columbus Crew in a reported $7.5 million (€6.5 million) deal.
The 26-year-old born in Denmark shared with Jamal Musiala of Bayern Munich the honour of being the only scorers of hat-tricks at the Club World Cup.
"Wessam is a proven scorer. His clinical finishing, energy and charisma will strengthen our squad," said Crew general manager Issa Tall.
Nigeria
Nurudeen Aweroro has replaced Gbenga Ogunbote as coach of success-starved Nigerian club Shooting Stars in a one-year deal.
Based in Ibadan, 130 kilometres (80 miles) north of commercial capital Lagos, Stars finished eighth last season in the 20-club national championship.
Stars last won the Nigerian league 27 years ago and have not lifted the Federation Cup -- the equivalent of the FA Cup -- since 1995.
Libya
Al Ahly Tripoli remained top of the six-team Libya Premier League play-offs standings in Milan on Tuesday despite being held 0-0 by Al Akhdar, who had Angolan Papel Ary red-carded on 61 minutes.
Ahly lead Al Hilal Benghazi and Akhdar on goal difference with each club having four points from two matches.
Italy is hosting the mini-league because Libya is politically divided. A United Nations-recognised government controls the west of the country, but a rival administration rules the east.
Tanzania
Romain Folz became the third new coach among the top four Tanzanian clubs when named successor to Algerian Miloud Hamdi at champions Young Africans.
Hamdi has moved to fallen Egyptian giants Ismaily, opening the door for the 35-year-old from Bordeaux to take charge of the record 26-time national champions.
After assistant coaching positions in Egypt and Ghana, Folz has been head coach of clubs in Ghana (two), Botswana, South Africa (two) and Guinea.

Report – Germany & Poland Aces Continue To Train Separately From Inter Milan Squad
Inter Milan stars Yann Bisseck and Piotr Zielinski continue to train individually, remaining apart from the rest of the squad. According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, they're undergoing personalized workouts as preparations for the new season intensify. Yann Bisseck has been out of action since picking up a hamstring problem in the Champions League final. Therefore, he was out of the Nerazzurri squad for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. (Photo by) Bisseck is heading toward full recovery amid talks that Inter are looking to sell him to the highest bidder. Furthermore, Crystal Palace are reportedly ready to offer €32 million to sign the 24-year-old defender. As for Piotr Zielinski, he faces an uphill task to break into Inter's starting line-up after a dismal first season at San Siro. Constantly plagued by injuries, the former Napoli midfielder failed to meet expectations last term. Therefore, he is also on the market, although Inter have struggled to drum up interest in the Polish ace.

Pulisic's verdict on new Milan signings and World Cup ‘in the back of my mind'
Christian Pulisic admits the 2026 World Cup will be 'in the back of my mind' this season and praises new Milan signings Samuele Ricci and Luka Modric. Pulisic released an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, not only discussing Milan's results and performances during the pre-season. Pulisic has already crossed paths with some new signings, especially Italy international Samuele Ricci, who moved to San Siro from Torino. (Photo by Yu Chun Christopher Wong/Eurasia) 'I like him because he keeps it simple and never tries to overdo,' Pulicis said. 'He does precisely what the team needs. He has excellent technique, controls the ball well and passes it with quality. I really admire the way he plays.' Modric has also signed with the Rossoneri but will only join the team in the coming days, having played in the Club World Cup with Real Madrid until a few weeks ago. 'He will bring experience, an essential quality during matches,' Pulisic noted. 'He's been a player of exceptional quality for years. I used to watch him as a fan, and then I faced him on the pitch too. Taking the ball off him is hard, and on top of that, he's a leader who will bring consistency and solidity to Milan. He'll be valuable on and off the pitch.' Milan won't be playing in the Champions League and Pulisic predicted that the Scudetto race won't only involve Napoli and Inter in 2025-26. 'There are many strong teams in Serie A. I don't expect it to be a head-to-head between Napoli and Inter because they'll have many tough opponents,' he said. 'We'll try to win as many matches as possible and finish as high as we can.' The new campaign will end with the 2026 World Cup, an event that has already thrilled Pulisic. EPA-EFE/ABBONDANZA SCURO LEZZI 'It will be a great season and many players will want to give their all because it will end with the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada,' he said. 'For me, playing in the World Cup in my country is a dream, and I want to work hard to be ready for the biggest event in world football. I'm thrilled at the thought of being there, but first, there's an entire season to play in a Milan shirt. Right now, I'm fully focused on that, even if the thought of the World Cup is in the back of my mind.' Pulisic was Milan's best scorer in 2024-25 with 17 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions. The American has netted 32 goals in 100 games in his two-season spell at San Siro.

Bayern Munich signs Liverpool forward Luis Diaz on 4-year deal
MUNICH — Bayern Munich signed Liverpool winger Luis Díaz to a four-year contract on Wednesday in the German champion's biggest deal of the offseason so far. The move balances out Liverpool's heavy spending with a fee reported at 75 million euros ($87 million) by German media, while Bayern dips into the millions it earned at the Club World Cup, a competition Liverpool didn't qualify for.
