Sundowns star asked to fight alcohol to save his career

The story has been widely reported. After continued indiscipline, Mamelodi Sundowns' Sipho Mbule has been released by his loan club, Sekhukhune United.
As reported over the past month, Sekhukhune United decided to release Sundowns' loaned midfielder Mbule for reporting to training under the influence of alcohol.
Speaking to the media in the past week, Sekhukhune's captain, Cardoso, pleaded with the Bethlehem-born star to save his career.
'It's quite sad to see [what's happening with Mbule]. We had a chat so many times, and as you saw again now, another story unfolded, and he's been let go by us [Sekhukhune United],' Cardoso told the Soccer Beat Podcast.

'I'm not sure where he is; I think he is back at Sundowns. I mean, he should be in the national team, and he's such a great character. But the disciplinary issues do affect him. At 26 years of age, we all go through that phase, and sometimes it's too late to realise, which I hope doesn't happen to him.
'I hope this has woken him up because Sundowns wanted him back when he went through that good stint with us to go to the Club World Cup, and I don't think that will happen now with all the negativity around him.
'So I do hope that if he ever gets to see this, I do hope that he comes out of what he's going through and changes his lifestyle because he's another player who should be playing in Europe, he has all the talent to play anywhere in the world. 'Sipho, I hope that you turn your career around, brother,'' Cardoso concluded.

Broos' young Bafana see off Mozambique in Polokwane

Bafana Bafana delivered a satisfactory performance to beat Mozambique 2-0 in their friendly in a freezing Polokwane on Tuesday night, making it a mission accomplished for coach Hugo Broos as almost all the new faces he selected for this camp came to the party. After drawing 0-0 against Tanzania in the first of this month's two friendlies on Friday, Broos' young Bafana were out to get a win to prove they can perform without Mamelodi Sundowns' players, who were not selected because of the club leaving for the US to play in the Club World Cup. Newcomers in the squad like Mohau Nkota; Ashley Cupido, the scorer of the 70th-minute second goal on Tuesday, and Mbekezeli Mbokazi put in solid shifts, giving Broos options and depth in selection options for the future. โ’ผโ“„โ’ถโ“: Bafana Bafana finally break the deadlock! ๐’๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก ๐€๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐š ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ 1โƒฃโž–0โƒฃ ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฟ ๐Œ๐จ๐ณ๐š๐ฆ๐›๐ข๐ช๐ฎ๐ž ๐Ÿšจ LIVE ๐Ÿ“บ SABC 3 ๐Ÿ“ฑ ๐ŸŒ #SABCSportFootball โ€” SABC Sport (@SABC_Sport) June 10, 2025 Chippa United's Sinoxolo Kwayiba provided the 47th-minute opener at Peter Mokaba Stadium. South Africa were all over the Mambas from the first whistle, creating a series of clear-cut chances in quick succession. It was the visitors' 28-year-old Mozambique goalkeeper Ivane Urrubal who made sure Bafana did not find the back of the net in the first half, producing seven excellent saves. Orlando Pirates' "Cocomelons", Relebohile Mofokeng and Nkota, were the recipients of South Africa's first chances inside the first minute but Urrubal was equal to the task. The keeper denied Mofokeng again 10 minutes later in a one-vs-one situation, using a trailing leg to thwart his goal-bound effort. โ’ผโ“„โ’ถโ“: Bafana Bafana have doubled their lead! ๐’๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก ๐€๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐š ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ 2โƒฃโž–0โƒฃ ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฟ ๐Œ๐จ๐ณ๐š๐ฆ๐›๐ข๐ช๐ฎ๐ž ๐Ÿšจ LIVE ๐Ÿ“บ SABC 3 ๐Ÿ“ฑ ๐ŸŒ #SABCSportFootball โ€” SABC Sport (@SABC_Sport) June 10, 2025 Kwayiba is another Bafana player who was hard done by Urrubal's brilliance in the opening 45 minutes, where Mozambique never made a box entry. Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine, who would be replaced by newcomer Renaldo Leaner in the 67th minute, was like a man on holiday throughout the first half. The first period had a few stoppages, the longest coming when Bafana right-back Nyiko Mobbie collided with Mozambique left-back Edmilson Dove, whose contract with Kaizer Chiefs ends this month. Mobbie had to soldier on until the 76th minute after suffering a head injury, before being replaced by Deano van Rooyen. After such a dominant first-half display, though without scoring, it fell to Bafana's first attempt of the second half from a set-piece for Urrubal to be beaten, courtesy of Kwayiba's header. The Chippa midfielder rose smartly to head home Nkota's corner. Cupido, who replaced Yanela Mbuthuma in the 67th, put the game to bed with a delightful finish just three minutes after entering the fray, collected and finishing a loose ball after Dove's error.

Kwayiba and Cupido lead Bafana Bafana to a solid win against Mozambique

ASHLEY Cupido and Sinoxolo Kwayiba scored two second half goals as Bafana Bafana beat Mozambique in an International Friendly match at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Tuesday. | BackpagePix As he'd promised, Broos gave every player he selected a chance to play and Chippa United's Kwayiba scored his first goal in national team colours and even walked away with the Player-of-the-match award. Not that coach Hugo Broos would have complained, the victory, better than what transpired at the same venue on Friday when Bafana drew goalless against Tanzania. South Africa's men's senior national team should have won the match by a much bigger margin such was their domination and numerous chances they created. SINOXOLO Kwayiba and Ashley Cupido scored second half goals that helped Bafana Bafana beat Mozambique 2-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Tuesday night. His goal came three minutes after the break as he headed in a corner kick by Mohauu Nkota. Kwayiba could have scored a hat-trick actually as he incredulously side footed the ball way off target when Oswin Appolis set him up on 86 minutes. He'd also missed another on 21 minutes. Ashley Cupido made it 2-0 with his first goal for Bafana after ten appearances by just lobbing the ball into the open net after the Mozambique defence had given the ball away on the left side of their box. Nkota was again responsible for the assist. The match could well have been over as a contest by half time, such was the domination Bafana enjoyed and their ability to pierce the Mambas' defence open. The hosts had no less than seven shots on target at the break but they found Ivanne Urrubal in an uncompromising mood, the Mozambique goalkeeper playing a blinder. Relebohile Mofokeng could easily have had a first half hat-trick had it not been for the brilliance of the number one who plays his club football for Sombo in Mozambique. The Orlando Pirates star was in imperious form as he hovered around the top of the box, switching flanks and varying his attempts at goal โ€“ shooting from range, trying to dribble his way past defenders and getting into good position to receive passes. He had his initial chance on 17 minutes when he made a fantastic break to receive a through ball and watched in disbelief as Urrubal used his outstretched leg to block his low shot that was headed in. Later on the Mambas keeper stopped Mofokeng's shot from range but the young South African did not give up. Late in the half, he tested the keeper with a sweetly-struck high shot but Urrubbal was equal to the task, showing his agility to fling himself up and punch the ball away. There were chances for Kwayiba and Nkota on ten and 21 minutes respectively but Urrubal was uncompromising, ensuring the scores were level when the referee blew his whistle for the break Yet there was no way just one man was going to withstand such relentless pressure as what the goalkeeper endured and it was just a matter of time before Mozambique were breached. And it took just three minutes after the break for the resistance to crumble, Kwayiba heading in Nkota's corner almost unchallenged. The Pirates man could have made it 2-0 on 54 minutes but Urrubal again came to the Mambas' rescue with a good save pushing away Nkota's left-footed piledriver after he'd cut in from the right. Mozambique had one chance late on but Ricardo Leaner pulled off a fantastic save as Bafana left Broos smiling from ear to ear, confident that he now has a much larger pool of players to pick his squad from.

Bafana find their fire to blaze past Mozambique

Hugo Broos' men after far too good for the Mambas. Sinoxolo Kwayiba celebrates after opening the scoring for Bafana against Mozambique on Tuesday. Picture: Alche Greeff/BackpagePix First Bafana Bafana goals from Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Ashley Cupido handed a much-improved South Africa a 2-0 win over Mozambique in an international friendly at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Tuesday. ALSO READ: Sundowns' Williams targets knockout spot at Club World Cup Kwayiba and Cupido struck in the second half of a dominant performance from Hugo Broos' side, that made a pleasant change after the listless goalless draw against Tanzania on Friday. A whole new Bafana As expected, Hugo Broos changed his entire eleven for the clash with the Mambas, Mbekezeli Mbokazi making his debut in central defence alongside captain and Pirates teammate Nkosinathi Sibisi. Left back Samukele Kabini and striker Yanele Mbuthuma also made their first senior international stats. Bafana threatened more in attack in the first 45 minutes against Mozambique than they had in the entire game against Tanzania. The opening period, indeed, was basically a case of South Africa versus Mozambican goalkeeper Ivan Urrubal. In the early stages, Mohau Nkota fired in a shot that was parried by Urrubal. The Mamba's goalkeeper then produced an even better save to deny Relebohile Mofokeng. Mofokeng broke clean through on goal soon after but Urrubal stopped his effort at close range. Urrubal also kept out Kwayiba and Nkota in quick succession, in a performance that must have caught the attention of some Premier Soccer League sides' Nkota was causing no end of problems to Mozambique in his first Bafana start, after coming off the bench against Tanzania. The Pirates winger spun on the edge of the box and let fly with a shot that flew inches over the bar. Five minutes before the break, the excellent Mofokeng again tested Urrubal, his rocket from just outside the area, tipped wide by the Mozambican 'keeper. Kwayiba comes up trumps If Bafana went in at half time wondering how on earth they were not in front, it took Broos' men inside two minutes of the second half to take the lead. Nkota's far post corner was powerfully headed past Urrubal by Kwayiba. In the 55th minute, Nkota cut in from the right and unleashed another piledriver, which was tipped away by Urrubal. A horrendous mistake at the back handed possession to Nkota and he laid the ball off for the Stellenbosch striker to thunder past Urrubal and into the top corner of the net.
