Jake Paul details exactly how he plans to knock out Julio Cesar Chavez Jr

Daily Mirror8 hours ago

The YouTuber-turned-boxer returns to the ring on Saturday and is expecting an easy night at the office against the former middleweight champion
Jake Paul has revealed exactly how he plans to stop Julio Cesar Chavez Jr ahead of their mouthwatering showdown. The two boxing stars will go head-to-head in a cruiserweight clash on Saturday night.
Paul is hoping that a win over the former middleweight champion will earn him top fights going forward against some of the biggest names in boxing. The 'Problem Child' has not fought beating Mike Tyson last November.

As for Chavez Jr, the 39-year-old ended a three year hiatus last July when he defeated former UFC middleweight contender Uriah Hall on points. Ahead of Saturday night's dust-up, the pair went face-to-face at a pre-fight press conference on Thursday evening.

When asked for his official prediction, Paul revealed he plans to knock the Mexican out in the first round with a right hook. "I'm gunna knock him out," Paul said. "That's what I came here to do. First-round. It's going to be an early night. He's going to get hit with a right hook right away and I'm going home early. I don't get paid for overtime. It's going to be a spectacular performance."
Paul is well known for his trash talk and getting under his opponents' skin. However, Chavez Jr revealed that none of it bothers him, stating: "No, I was expecting that from him. It's the only way for him to get attention. I am ready." Before the press conference started, tensions nearly boiled over after Paul threw a shirt at his upcoming opponent.
As both men made their way to the stage, Paul quickly walked over to Chavez Jr and stuck a note in front of the Mexican's name saying the 39-year-old is going to get 'knocked out.' Seconds later, Chavez Jr rushed over to Paul's side and attempted to gift the American a shirt that referenced the 'Problem Child' is going to be his daddy.
Quickly being made aware of the t-shirt, the 28-year-old threw the item of clothing in the direction of his upcoming opponent. Thankfully, security was not needed as both men quickly went to their seats after their brief scuffle.
Ahead of his clash with the Mexican boxing veteran, Paul stormed off an interview with Piers Morgan after the latter discussed Paul's upcoming fight and questioned. his boxing credentials. 'I think you're a great YouTuber, a great influencer," said Morgan. "I admire what you try to do boxing, but I do think when you actually come up against a proper, serious boxer, and I suspect that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, maybe that person you, it could all come crashing down.' Paul brutally spat back: 'I think the problem here Piers, is that you think that your opinion matters?'
Asked why he was doing his show if the host's opinion did not matter, Paul taunted: 'Oh, I'm just taking your audience to sell pay per views. I don't give a f**k about your show, dumb a**. This is a f****** business enterprise. Buy the pay per view on Saturday, June 28, me versus Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Thank you, tune in everybody!'
The 28-year-old then hung up the call, leaving a bemused Piers smiling and saying: 'Cheers Jake, really enjoyed that, and good luck to Julio - knock him out for all of us will you?'

Bill Moyers, PBS journalist and LBJ aide, dead at 91

"In five decades of broadcast journalism, Bill reached the very highest standards of excellence in journalism. I believe he reached the same stature as Edward R. Murrow," Johnson tells USA TODAY. "He was one of President Johnson's most trusted advisors and in many ways was the son that LBJ never had." Moyers won 35 Emmy Awards in his storied career, primarily for his work on PBS as host of "Frontline" and "Bill Moyers Journal." His career was punctuated by the 1988 landmark series, "Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth," a series of six one-hour interviews with Campbell, the prominent mythologist and religious scholar. The accompanying book became a national bestseller, with both series popularizing Campbell's phrase, "Follow your bliss." "Not only was Bill a journalist of the highest caliber, he played an essential role in the creation of PBS as a trusted aide to President Johnson," PBS chief Paula Kerger said in a statement. "It was my privilege to work closely with him for over three decades, and I was always inspired by the clarity of his vision and his unwavering commitment to the ideals that continue to inspire public media. Bill was always of service: as a journalist, a mentor, and a fierce champion for PBS. He fought for excellence and honesty in our public discourse, and was always willing to take on the most important issues of the day with curiosity and compassion. While he will be greatly missed, we will continue to carry his legacy forward in service to the American people." This story is developing.

John McEnroe refuses BBC request as Wimbledon great speaks about Nick Kyrgios

Nick Kyrgios will not play at Wimbledon for the third successive year, with the controversial Aussie having not played at SW19 since reaching the 2022 final, where he was beaten by Novak Djokovic John McEnroe insists he regrets that controversial star Nick Kyrgios will again miss Wimbledon - after the BBC tried to stop the tennis great from speaking about the axed Australian. Kyrgios reached the final at SW19 in 2022, losing to Novak Djokovic. But he has not played at the Championship since. ‌ Last year he was part of the BBC commentary team, but will not return in that role this year, despite having been forced to pull out of this year's tournament with a knee injury. Indeed, Kyrgios' long-term future is in question, after only playing four matches this far this year. ‌ I asked three-time Wimbledon winner McEnroe if he will miss Kyrgios at Wimbledon this year, McEnroe said: 'I don't know what Nick's doing. Is he playing?' But a BBC press officer swiftly stepped in, telling McEnroe: 'Sorry, John, you don't have to go into your personal feelings with Nick Kyrgios.' But the often-outspoken American, who remains no shrinking violet at the age of 66, ignored the advice and continued, declaring: 'I'm okay talking about Nick Kyrgios. If anyone's heard me talk about Nick Kyrgios, it's in the sense that I would prefer to see him playing, because he's one of the most talented guys that I've seen on a tennis court. "In any sport watching and especially someone who's playing the same sport I play, you always try to maximise, hopefully, what you can accomplish. I didn't feel like I did. And so you put a lot of pressure on yourself. "And so it's sort of a shame that he hasn't been able to figure out the way to do that. We all have problems with that, but it's too bad. I don't know why he's not playing.' ‌ Kyrgios won't be the only major talking point missing at SW19 this year. Line judges are out, replaced by Electronic Line Calling for the first time. McEnroe said: 'And as far as linesmen, I don't even know how to answer that, because I had an obviously long history of linesmen, but it seems like if they have electronic equipment that works, that's preferable. "As fast as the balls are being hit, to expect human beings to be able to get everyone right is a big ask, even for someone who complained a lot about it. ‌ 'Do I wish I'd had electronic line calling at Wimbledon? Yes, I do. Actually. I'd have less white hair, and I might have a little more and I would have wasted less energy on that I presume. Maybe I would have been more boring. "I wouldn't have been here, speaking to you now, and I wouldn't have been commentating. So I got to look at the bright side. 'But there's something in the interaction that you miss, I believe, and there's something about that that I think people will miss. "But it's also nice to know if, in fact, it's accurate, and hopefully it's 100% accurate, or 99.9% I don't know what it is - you hate to have that find out later that a call that was made on match point was not accurate, that would be truly infuriating.'

Ilia Topuria predicts first-round KO of Charles Oliveira at UFC 317

June 27 - LAS VEGAS -- Ilia Topuria's emergence as one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world has propelled him to the biggest stage of his career as he takes on former champion and future Hall of Famer Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title on Saturday night at UFC 317. The bout headlines International Fight Week, which has become the UFC's Super Bowl weekend equivalent since debuting ahead of UFC 148 in 2012. Anderson Silva, Jon Jones and Conor McGregor are among the stars who have taken part in the week's marquee fight over the years. In McGregor's case, his showmanship leading up to a second-round TKO of Chad Mendes at UFC 189 in 2015 marked one of the defining moments in his rise to mainstream superstardom. It's no secret that the undefeated Topuria, who ranks third on UFC's pound-for-pound list, seeks a similarly defining moment Saturday. The former featherweight champion has been adamant that he believes a stoppage is coming within the first two or three minutes of the fight. Saturday will mark Topuria's return to the lightweight division after he vacated the featherweight belt in April in pursuit of becoming a two-division champion. And best believe Topuria knows what kind of statement knocking out a legend like Oliveira in the first round would make. "(It would say) I'm the best fighter in the world," Topuria said. "It's not about if I'm going to win the belt; I'm going to do it. I'm going to knock him out in the first round ... If you beat legend after legend, you'll eventually become a legend." Topuria won the featherweight belt in February 2024 with a second-round knockout of former champion Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298 before succeeding in his lone title defense against Max Holloway at UFC 308 in October. He has bounced between weight classes throughout his career, having fought professionally at bantamweight, featherweight and lightweight. A significant reason for Topuria's insistence that Saturday's fight will end so early is his respect for the fact Oliveira will be on the attack as soon as the bell rings. In Oliveira's eyes, meanwhile, he sees Topuria joining the long list of opponents who have made empty promises to put him down. "In reality, everyone knows what's going to happen," said the 35-year-old Oliveira, who has not worn the title belt since 2022. "He's another guy talking who's going to fold in front of me. This is something huge. About legacy, about dreams, about how much I'm alive and hungry for it. That's what I am. I'm going to be a champion again." The co-main event features champion Alexandre Pantoja, who is making his fourth flyweight title defense against fourth-ranked Kai Kara-France. Pantoja is currently tied for ninth in the UFC's pound-for-pound fighters ranking. Kara-France previously fought Brandon Moreno for the interim flyweight championship at UFC 277, losing by TKO at 4:34 in the third round. Main Card: --Ilia Topuria vs. Charles Oliveria for the vacant UFC lightweight championship --Alexandre Pantoja vs. Kai Kara-France for the UFC flyweight championship --Brandon Royval vs. Joshua Van --Beneil Dariush vs. Renato Moicano --Payton Talbott vs. Felipe Lima --Will Despart, Field Level Media
