Manny Pacquiao delivers brutal Jake Paul verdict ahead of boxing legend's return
Paul has received a fair bit of stick as he prepares to make his return to the ring later this month against former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao doubts that a win for Jake Paul against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr will "legitimise" the American as a boxer. Paul and Chavez Jr will go head-to-head in Anaheim on June 28. The 'Problem Child' comes into the showdown off the back of a dominant win over former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson back in November. Chavez Jr claimed a win over Uriah Hall in his last outing last July. Since making his professional debut back in 2020, Paul has taken the sport of boxing by storm. With a professional record of 11-1, the 28-year-old has defeated the likes of Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz. His only loss in the ring came against rival Tommy Fury two years ago. The social media star-turned-boxer has been criticised over the years for largely taking on former MMA fighters. That said, he does face a level-up in opposition against Chavez Jr - who is a former middleweight champion. A win over the Mexican could earn Paul a showdown with some top names in the near future. Many big stars within the sport of boxing have weighed in and offered their verdict on the outcome of the upcoming fight. One man who has shared his thoughts is Pacquiao - who does not believe a win for Paul will do wonders for his career as he looks to climb up the ranks. When asked whether a win over Chavez Jr will "legitimise" Paul as boxer, Pacquiao told Fight Hub TV: "It's hard to comment on that fight. But it is up to the fans as to how they analyse it and judge it," before adding: "I do not think so." Despite Pacquiao's concerns, Shawn Porter is tipping Paul to get the job done on fight night after being left amused by Chavez Jr in training. 'I got Jake Paul by KO," he said. 'He doesn't have a gas tank. That means you're not working and training out of the gym. I saw the in gym stuff and you scratch your head like 'that was it for the day?' 'One day he came into the gym he shadow boxed, I don't know if he made it a round on the bag, then he packed up and left … I've seen some short stuff. I don't want to disrespect but it will make you scratch your head. The other fighters were laughing like 'that was it? Why did he show up?'' After the fight was announced, Paul was quick to take to social media and vowed to knock Chavez Jr out. "Five years ago, I stepped into the ring for my pro debut after one amateur fight, and every fight since has been a step towards becoming world champion," said Paul. "I just defeated the baddest man on the planet and broke multiple records, and now I'm going against a former world champion with 54 wins who Canelo could barely beat. Chávez Jr. is Mexican, but I, El Gallo De Dorado, mexi-CAN knock him tf out. On Saturday, June 28, live on DAZN pay-per-view, I will defeat Julio and make Chávez Sr. proud in ways Jr. never has. Viva La Puerto Rico."

Jake Paul's opponent 'laughed out of the gym' by boxing rival ahead of fight
Boxing legend Shawn Porter has backed Jake Paul to beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr after he was left amused by what he saw from the Mexican in training. Paul is scheduled to make his boxing return on June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, against the former WBC middleweight champion. The 'Problem Child' has not fought since he cruised to a points victory over Mike Tyson back in November. Chavez Jr has been fairly inactive since losing the middleweight world title back in 2012. With a professional record of 54-6-1-1, the 39-year-old has fought the likes of Daniel Jacobs, Canelo Alvarez and Andy Lee. He comes into the cruiserweight dust-up off the back of a win against ex-UFC star Uriah Hall last July. While many are expecting a tough night at the office for Paul, Porter has confidently predicted that the 28-year-old will get the victory later this month. Speaking on The Porter Way Podcast, he said. 'I got Jake Paul by KO.' The boxing icon then explained how previously seeing Chavez Jr in the gym helped him come to that conclusion. 'He doesn't have a gas tank. That means you're not working and training out of the gym. I saw the in gym stuff and you scratch your head like 'that was it for the day?' He said. 'One day he came into the gym he shadow boxed, I don't know if he made it a round on the bag, then he packed up and left … I've seen some short stuff. I don't want to disrespect but it will make you scratch your head. The other fighters were laughing like 'that was it? Why did he show up?'' With just a few weeks to go until the clash, Paul is confident that he will "embarrass" Chavez Jr. "I'm gonna shock the world once again and prove how good I am, how powerful I am," the 28-year-old said at the launch press conference. "This is his toughest fight to date, and I'm going to embarrass him and make him quit like he always does." He added: "I don't want any excuses, and when I beat this man all the boxing media, like you guys always do, are going to discredit it. But I'm gonna expose him and I'm gonna embarrass him. He's the embarrassment of Mexico. Mexico doesn't claim him. "He's going to get exposed on June 28, and then the boxing media will have all these excuses but I don't want them to be having these excuses. They say he's training hard, they say this is the most focused he's ever been, good. As he should be, because people don't realise how good I actually am, and when he feels those first few punches he's going to want to quit and go back to his stool."

Julio Cesar Chavez Sr says there's ‘no way' his son gets ‘embarrassed' by Jake Paul
Boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez Sr cannot fathom a world where his son is beaten by Jake Paul after 'The Problem Child' vowed to 'embarrass' the former world champion. Paul, 28, is set to take on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in California on June 28, coming into his next in-ring bout off the back of beating 58-year-old Mike Tyson back in November. The American remains a highly divisive figure in the sport but having mainly boxed MMA fighters in his journey so far, he now faces the test of Chavez Jr, a former WBC middleweight champion. Chavez Jr, 39, has won 53 of his 61 fights, but has only competed once since 2021 - a lacklustre decision win over ex-UFC star Uriah Hall. Nevertheless, Chavez Sr, 62, is still confident Paul doesn't stand a chance against his son. "Jake Paul is young and strong, but he's never faced a fighter like my son," Chavez Sr said at Wednesday's news conference. "I would've given Mike Tyson a better fight. He didn't throw one punch the whole fight. "I haven't seen him train at this level for many years. If he keeps this up until the fight, there is no way Jake Paul is going to beat my son.' A former Disney Channel child actor, Paul has amassed a record of 11 wins since making his jump into boxing, with his only loss coming against Tommy Fury in 2023. Taking on a man who has previously gone the distance with pound-for-pound superstar Canelo Alvarez, Paul is raring to humiliate the former champion in his pursuit of an unlikely cruiserweight title shot. "This is his toughest fight to date, and I'm going to embarrass him and make him quit like he always does," Paul said. "This guy is a great fighter, and I want to test myself against the best in the world. "Going from Disney Channel to YouTube to world champion in six to seven years? That's the most relatable and best sports story that any kid can get behind.'

Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul will face former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in California on Saturday, 28 June. Chavez Jr - the 39-year-old son of legendary former three-division world boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez - has competed just once since 2021. "Five years ago, I stepped into the ring for my pro debut after a single amateur fight, and every fight since has been a step towards becoming world champion," Paul said. Paul, who found fame by posting prank videos on YouTube, has amassed a record of 11 wins, mostly against ex-UFC fighters. His only loss is to Briton Tommy Fury in 2023. The self-proclaimed 'Problem Child' says he will "knock out" Chavez Jr at the Honda Center in Anaheim. "I will show what I can do now that everything is in the right place in my life - mentally and physically," said Chavez Jr. "I feel rejuvenated and 10 years younger." The cruiserweight bout will be over 10, three-minute rounds and the boxers will wear standard 10oz gloves. Paul wore bigger gloves and contested shorter rounds against Tyson, given the former world champion's age.
