Field Of Gold sparkles with decisive St James's Palace strike

There was no doubt who emerged as the best of the three though, as Colin Keane breezed through on the 8-11 favourite before bursting clear to beat Henri Matisse by three and a half lengths, with Ruling Court back in third. Field Of Gold has now charted the same route as his sire Kingman, who also suffered defeat at Newmarket before gaining Irish redemption and adding Royal Ascot glory when trained by John Gosden. Field Of Gold returns to the Ascot winner's enclosure (John Walton/PA) 'Like father, like son,' said Gosden, in reference to Kingman's win in 2014. 'The nerves may have got to the trainer beforehand but thankfully not to the horse or the jockey. 'It was great, a great performance and Oisin (Murphy) did a nice job on Windlord setting an even pace and he came to the head of the straight and he had a lot of horse. 'For a moment I was thinking 'whoops, this is Ascot and it climbs and have we gone a bit soon'. I wasn't watching him, I was looking back as you always have to do here, but fortunately none of the dangers were coming to get him. 'He always impressed as a two-year-old but he was a big boy and slightly outgrew himself. We ran him in France which was a mistake in itself and I should have run him in the Dewhurst and I regret that. But this year he has been exemplary in everything he has done and he's a pleasure to train because he is a pretty relaxed character.' Gosden admitted the Irish 2,000 Guineas had not originally been part of Field Of Gold's intended campaign, which could influence where the colt heads next. He added: 'It was never the plan to go to Ireland and he's had a trial and two Guineas and now this which is a lot of racing and we're not even halfway through the season yet. 'Maybe (we'll) freshen him up now and go to the Sussex, but we will see. If we hadn't gone to Ireland, I would have been keen to go to the Eclipse. 'When they win like that and make it look easy they do take a lot out of themselves and I don't want to be someone seen running him back quick in an Eclipse straight off the back of this.' Colin Keane celebrates after Field Of Gold's breathtaking win (David Davies/PA) For Juddmonte's new retained rider it capped a fine first week in the hot seat for the Abdullah family, with the six-time Irish champion in no doubt he is in a privileged position, handed the reins to an exceptional talent. Keane said: 'He's a special horse and I'm lucky enough to join this team and to have a horse like him early on is amazing. I've had nothing compared to this and it's very special. 'He just proved what he did at the Curragh wasn't a mistake and it's similar to revving a motorbike, when you ask him it's instant. 'Without a doubt he's the best I've ridden. The next best would be Siskin who was in the same colours, but this lad is a level above, he's very special. 'I'm in a very privileged position to be in these colours and getting a horse like him is unbelievable. That was utterly sublime, Field Of Gold with a wow moment at #RoyalAscot — Adam Morgan (@Adam_Morgs) June 17, 2025 'I wasn't nervous, but there was plenty of anticipation and it was a very good renewal of the race. It was three Guineas winners taking each other on, but he's won like a very good horse. 'Ideally I would have liked to have been carried further into the race as he will only do so much once he got there. I didn't want to be a sitting duck there for them to catch me, but once he quickened up I thought they will do well to catch me. 'I couldn't wish for a better start, but when you're riding for this operation and this is the quality of horse you get, these are the opportunities you get and it's very special but also a bit of relief. 'He's following in the right footsteps and he just seems to be a horse who is getting better with racing and you can see the way he relaxes now. I'm just the man fortunate enough to be stepping in on him at the right time.' The writing was on the wall early for Ruling Court who never looked likely to confirm form with Field Of Gold. 'William (Buick) said he was never really travelling comfortably and at this level you need to be able to get up there and travel on the bridle to give your horse a breather,' said Charlie Appleby. 'It might be a bit too soon to say we'll be looking at an Eclipse but working back from the Juddmonte will be the most likely target.' Aidan O'Brien indicated Henri Matisse would likely stick at a mile.

Royal Ascot TIPS: Newsboy's picks and 1-2-3 for every race on Wednesday on ITV

The top tipster names his 1-2-3 in a detailed analysis of all seven races on day two of the five day royal meeting of which the feature is the £1 million Prince of Wales's Stakes The biggest event in horse racing's Flat racing calendar, the five-day Royal Ascot meeting, is under way. The best horses, trainers and jockeys from Europe and others from around the world descend on the Berkshire track for the renowned occasion. Day two features one of the meeting's signature races, the £1 million Prince of Wales's Stakes, supported by one of the most competitive handicaps of the year, the 1m Royal Hunt Cup contested by 30 runners up the famous straight. ‌ ‌ 2.30 Queen Mary Stakes SPICY MARG impressed on her debut at Newmarket and should not be underestimated. The Michael Bell-trained filly is bred to be quick, being a daughter of champion sprinter Starspangledbanner and Main Desire, who won two Listed races for the Fitzroy House yard. She made her racecourse bow against three opponents in a five-furlong novice stakes for fillies on the 1,000 Guineas undercard, being sent off the 7-2 joint-second favourite in a market dominated by even-money favourite Twilight Star. Racing in third place under Kieran Shoemark, Spicy Marg made headway on the run to the final furlong and, once hitting the front, accounted for the. Market leader by two and three-quarter lengths. The performance earned rave reviews from the clock watchers and, with plenty of improvement to come on the second start of her life, Spicy Marg can show to the fore. In a large field of youngsters whose best days lie ahead, Revival Power, Society Kiss, and True Love all merit a second look. ‌ 3.05 Queen's Vase ‌ DEVIL'S ADVOCATE, with the best form and stamina in his pedigree, is well equipped to win the argument. John and Thady Gosden gave the son of Too Darn Hot his debut in a one-mile Newmarket maiden last September and, on the back of a promising third, Devil's Advocate went two better by seven and a half lengths over an additional two furlongs at Chelmsford City three weeks later. Sent off the 6-4 favourite for the Listed Blue Riband Trial in April on his return, but my selection was all at sea round Epsom's rollercoaster, returning sixth of seven behind Sea Scout. But Devil's Advocate was a different proposition as an 80-1 shot in York's Group 2 Dante Stakes - equipped with cheekpieces, he made the running and stuck to his task once headed a quarter of a mile from the finish to take fourth, beaten just over three lengths, to Pride Of Arras. With dam Precious Remotswe a Group 3 winner over a mile and six furlongs for the Clarehaven yard, William Buick's far-from-exposed partner should relish the step up in trip. The Aidan O'Brien pair Shackleton and Scandinavia are feared, with Asmarani another with a role to play. 3.40 Duke of Cambridge Stakes ‌ CINDERELLA'S DREAM is following a sharp upward curve and rates a worthy favourite to capture a second consecutive Group 2 prize in Britain. Unbeaten in two starts as a juvenile in 2023, the Charlie Appleby-trained daughter of Shamardal scored twice at Meydan last season before suffering a first career defeat with a seventh to Elmalka in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket. My selection then went to America to capture the top-tier Belmont Oaks at Belmont At The Big A and Grade 2 Saratoga Oaks at Saratoga, rounding off the campaign with an unlucky second to Moira in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Del Mar. ‌ Cinderella's Dream suffered a shock reverse in a Group 2 at Meydan in February on her return but went one better in impressive style in the same-level Dahlia Stakes on Newmarket's 1,000 Guineas undercard. William Buick's mount stormed away to beat Elmalka by four and a half lengths and a 3lb penalty for that performance may not stop her from going in for the eighth time from 11 attempts. Fallen Angel, Elmalka and last year's winner Running Lion are the most convincing candidates for the podium places. NEWSBOY'S 1-2-3: 1 CINDERELLA'S DREAM, 2 FALLEN ANGEL, 3 RUNNING LION ‌ 4.20 Prince of Wales's Stakes LOS ANGELES is reinventing himself as a mile-and-a-quarter and is expected to pass his toughest test at the distance. ‌ This time last year, Camelot's son, third to City Of Troy in the Derby, was less than two weeks away from victory in the Irish equivalent, and talk was of the St Leger after he landed York's Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes in August. But Aidan O'Brien opted to come back to 10 furlongs for the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown - a move that resulted in a fourth-of-eight finish behind Economics. On the back of a third to Bluestocking when returned to a mile and a half for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Los Angeles came back ninth of 11 behind Anmaat over today's course and distance - the run left a question mark over his suitability for the shorter trip - in October. ‌ But O'Brien has stuck to the plan and it is paying off. After holding White Birch by a neck for the Group 2 Mooresbridge Stakes at the Curragh at the beginning of last month, Ryan Moore's mount lifted his second Group 1 prize - and his first at 10 furlongs - with by a battling half length from Anmaat in the Tattersalls Gold Cup there 20 days later. The runner-up lacked race fitness and his connections will fancy their chances of revenge, but Los Angeles found more when it mattered and can maintain his superiority. See The Fire is the choice to edge out Map Of Stars and Ombudsman for the bronze medal. NEWSBOY'S 1-2-3: 1 LOS ANGELES, 2 ANMAAT, 3 SEE THE FIRE ‌ 5.00 Royal Hunt Cup BULLET POINT is proving a hard horse for the handicapper to get hold of - and may evade his grip once more. ‌ His first three outings of last year, in novice stakes at Newbury, Kempton Park and Windsor, suggested the William Haggas-saddled son of Advertised, unraced as a juvenile, had ability but wasn't the finished article. A gelding operation preceded Bullet Point's handicap debut, which yielded a fourth at Wolverhampton in September, but my selection then rounded off the campaign with scores at Newcastle and Newmarket. Haggas reintroduced the four-year-old in a valuable handicap over a mile at Newmarket's Craven fixture in April, and Bullet Point took another step forward, racking up the hat-trick with a three-and-a-quarter-length beating of Tribal Chief. ‌ There's an 8lb rise to deal with in a much tougher contest, but Tom Marquand's mount still looks a fair way from the bottom of the barrel. The Royal Hunt Cup short list is a long one, topped by My Cloud, Fox Legacy, Tony Montana and Sisyphean. NEWSBOY'S 1-2-3: 1 BULLET POINT, 2 TONY MONTANA, 3 FOX LEGACY ‌ 5.35 Kensington Palace Stakes ARISAIG rates the value play against last month's course-and-distance conqueror, and today's favourite, Rainbows Edge. The Charlie Johnston-trained filly was at the top of her game in high summer last year, gaining a fourth career success in a handicap for her gender at Glorious Goodwood. ‌ Arisaig didn't reproduce that form in her three subsequent outings of 2024 but there was promise in her return-to-action fifth behind Ebt's Guard in the Spring Cup at Newbury in April, and plenty went wrong when she finished a close fifth to Crimson Advocate in Goodwood's Listed Conqueror Fillies' Stakes three weeks later. Callum Shepherd's partner is 2lb better of with Rainbows Edge for a three-quarter-length beating on the Victoria Cup undercard last month - the winner was more advantageously placed throughout - and yet is available at more than double the odds. Rainbows Edge is lightly raced and has obvious claims, while Sky Safari, Serialise and Independent Expert are other names to throw into the mix. ‌ NEWSBOY'S 1-2-3: 1 ARISAIG, 2 RAINBOWS EDGE, 3 INDEPENDENT EXPERT 6.10 Windsor Castle Stakes ‌ UTMOST RESPECT is worthy of exactly that as he seeks to build on the promise of his racecourse debut at York's Dante Festival last month. Richard Fahey gave the son of Invincible Spirit his first start against five opponents in a valuable five-furlong novice stakes, for which Utmost Respect went off the 11-4 second favourite. In the event, my selection did everything bar win - racing with enthusiasm behind the leaders, Utmost Respect and Oisín Orr found their path blocked passing the halfway point. Switching out for daylight over a furlong from the finish, the Musley Bank youngster ran on strongly to get within half a length of Ballistic Missile. Clear water would have seen Utmost Respect go close - at the very least - and there is plenty more where that came from. Havana Hurricane, Rogue Supremacy, Gaga Mate and Azizam have all got their careers off to a promising start and are entitled to respect.

Royal Ascot 2025 Day 2 tips and best bets as Map of Stars napped for glory

Daily Record tipster Garry Owen has you covered for Royal Ascot Day 2 ROYAL ASCOT DAY TWO TIPS 2:30 LENNILU 3:05 CARMERS ‌ 3:40 ONE LOOK ‌ 4:20 MAP OF STARS (NAP) 5:00 THE LIFFEY 5:35 SERIALISE 6:10 ROGUE LEGEND GARRY'S DOUBLE: MAP OF STARS (NAP) AND ONE LOOK ‌ Map of Stars (4:20) can sparkle in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes on Day 2 of this year's Royal Ascot. Francis-Henri Graffard is in the form of his life and he can bag another Group 1 with this smart type. The colt went into plenty of notebooks when cosily dispatching Gamestars on debut at Longchamp. Given time to develop, he improved again when caning Cambaceres on his comeback at Compiegne. The four-year-old didn't please everyone when fourth behind Ombusman in a Longchamp Group 3. However, Graffard's charge soon silenced any critics by bolting-up from Any Moon in Listed company at Chantilly. Off for 141 days, the son of Sea The Stars hit fresh heights by hammering First Look at Saint-Cloud. He quickly landed his first Group 2 success by decisively claiming the Prix d'Harcourt at Longchamp. The bold-galloper then found only Sosie too good in the Group 1 Ganay back at the Paris venue. That was a terrific performance so the Gallic raider can make a deserved top-level breakthrough. Lennilu (2:30) can become the latest American winner of the prestigious Queen Mary Stakes. Patrick Biancone's filly showed a blistering turn of foot to slam Kadabra on debut at Keeneland. She then handled Turf superbly when cruising to victory from Bibi Dahl at Gulfstream last month. The grey looks open to plenty more progress so she can stay unbeaten against some exciting foes. Carmers (3:05) can kick-off a memorable afternoon for Paddy Twomey in the Queen's Vase. The three-year-old didn't make his debut until tackling a 1m 5f maiden at Ballinrobe last month. The colt duly got off the mark at the first attempt with an impressive length defeat of Kilmeaden. He continued to make up for lost time by routing What's Your Game in Group 3 company at Naas. The bay is tailor-made for this Group 2 so he can get the better of some fast-rising young stayers. ‌ The Cashel Maestro can double-up with One Look (3:40) in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes. The daughter of Glenegales slightly lost her way after easily landing her first two career outings. The filly returned to that superb early form when second to Wingspan in a Gowran Listed event. She soon continued her revival by brushing aside Princess Child in a similar contest at Killarney. The bay raised her game again when giving Je Zous most problems in a Group 3 back at Gowran. The four-year-old started 2025 by bolting-up from Ecstatic in the Park Express at the Curragh. She then gave the classy Porta Fortuna a massive fright in the Group 2 Lanwades back there. That is red-hot form so this strong-traveller can open her account in another high-class contest. Twomey can complete a treble with Rogue Legend (6:10) in the Windsor Castle Stakes. The two-year-old made a highly promising start with a good second to Oh Cecelia at Cork. The colt put that run to good use when hacking-up from The Right One at the same venue. However, he really excelled himself when surging home from Howd'yadoit at Tipperary. The youngster has a bright future so he can add this competitive Listed event to his CV. ‌ The Liffey (5:00) can wash his rivals away for Joseph O'Brien in the Royal Hunt Cup. The gelding showed promise for Aidan O'Brien when chinning My Mate Alfie at the Curragh. The bay was then given 305 days to mature by connections after taking that warm contest. He was till very green when fifth to Battle Cry on his comeback in a Leopardstown Group 3. Absent for 56 days, he signed-off for Team Ballydoyle by caning Without Words at Listowel. Allowed more time, he was a fine fourth in a Naas Listed event on debut for his new yard. This historic prize has been the aim ever since so he can score for his ultra-shrewd trainer. Serialise (5:35) can tell the tale for Jessica Harrington in the Kensington Palace Stakes. The filly recorded a new career best when outpointing Kailasa in a warm Cork handicap. She put in another fine shift when third to Vera's Secret in up in class at Leopardstown. The four-year-old returned with another solid third to the useful Tokenomics at Cork. She then warmed-up perfectly for this race by chasing home Skukuza at the Curragh. The Irish raider will be primed so she can boost her yard's super record at this meeting. HAMILTON 2.15 RAMPANT ‌ 2.50 ASPIRAL 3.23 POP STAR 4.00 HAVANA RUM ‌ 4.40 COMA CLUSTER 5.20 URBAN SKY 5.55 REDONDO ‌ Rampant (2:15) can run wild for Patrick Morris on Aspire Racenight at Hamilton. The bay is well-treated on Turf after his fair third to Anificas Beauty at Wolverhampton. Pop Star (3:23) can top the charts for thriving Alice Haynes in the Aspire Handicap. The speedster shaped like his turn was near when edged by Parisiac over track and trip. Havana Rum (4:00) can get the party started for Richard Fahey in the sprint handicap. The gelding was just held by Iris Dancer here and he can turn the tables at the weights. The trainer can strike again with Urban Sky (5:20) in the Hamiltons Handicap. The three-year-old can build on his revitalised second to Toy Soldier at Leicester. Coma Cluster (4:40) can floor her foes for George Boughey in the fillies' event. The three-year-old can cash-in on a decent mark after some solid form as a novice. Redondo (5:55) can land the odds for Darragh Bourke in the lucky last. The four-year-old should be fighting fit after his near-miss to Idyllic at Carlisle.
