Map of Stars (4:20) can sparkle in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes on Day 2 of this year's Royal Ascot. Francis-Henri Graffard is in the form of his life and he can bag another Group 1 with this smart type. The colt went into plenty of notebooks when cosily dispatching Gamestars on debut at Longchamp. Given time to develop, he improved again when caning Cambaceres on his comeback at Compiegne. The four-year-old didn't please everyone when fourth behind Ombusman in a Longchamp Group 3. However, Graffard's charge soon silenced any critics by bolting-up from Any Moon in Listed company at Chantilly. Off for 141 days, the son of Sea The Stars hit fresh heights by hammering First Look at Saint-Cloud. He quickly landed his first Group 2 success by decisively claiming the Prix d'Harcourt at Longchamp. The bold-galloper then found only Sosie too good in the Group 1 Ganay back at the Paris venue. That was a terrific performance so the Gallic raider can make a deserved top-level breakthrough.
Lennilu (2:30) can become the latest American winner of the prestigious Queen Mary Stakes. Patrick Biancone's filly showed a blistering turn of foot to slam Kadabra on debut at Keeneland. She then handled Turf superbly when cruising to victory from Bibi Dahl at Gulfstream last month. The grey looks open to plenty more progress so she can stay unbeaten against some exciting foes.
Carmers (3:05) can kick-off a memorable afternoon for Paddy Twomey in the Queen's Vase. The three-year-old didn't make his debut until tackling a 1m 5f maiden at Ballinrobe last month. The colt duly got off the mark at the first attempt with an impressive length defeat of Kilmeaden. He continued to make up for lost time by routing What's Your Game in Group 3 company at Naas. The bay is tailor-made for this Group 2 so he can get the better of some fast-rising young stayers.
The Cashel Maestro can double-up with One Look (3:40) in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes. The daughter of Glenegales slightly lost her way after easily landing her first two career outings. The filly returned to that superb early form when second to Wingspan in a Gowran Listed event. She soon continued her revival by brushing aside Princess Child in a similar contest at Killarney. The bay raised her game again when giving Je Zous most problems in a Group 3 back at Gowran. The four-year-old started 2025 by bolting-up from Ecstatic in the Park Express at the Curragh. She then gave the classy Porta Fortuna a massive fright in the Group 2 Lanwades back there. That is red-hot form so this strong-traveller can open her account in another high-class contest.
Twomey can complete a treble with Rogue Legend (6:10) in the Windsor Castle Stakes. The two-year-old made a highly promising start with a good second to Oh Cecelia at Cork. The colt put that run to good use when hacking-up from The Right One at the same venue. However, he really excelled himself when surging home from Howd'yadoit at Tipperary. The youngster has a bright future so he can add this competitive Listed event to his CV.
The Liffey (5:00) can wash his rivals away for Joseph O'Brien in the Royal Hunt Cup. The gelding showed promise for Aidan O'Brien when chinning My Mate Alfie at the Curragh. The bay was then given 305 days to mature by connections after taking that warm contest. He was till very green when fifth to Battle Cry on his comeback in a Leopardstown Group 3. Absent for 56 days, he signed-off for Team Ballydoyle by caning Without Words at Listowel. Allowed more time, he was a fine fourth in a Naas Listed event on debut for his new yard. This historic prize has been the aim ever since so he can score for his ultra-shrewd trainer.
Serialise (5:35) can tell the tale for Jessica Harrington in the Kensington Palace Stakes. The filly recorded a new career best when outpointing Kailasa in a warm Cork handicap. She put in another fine shift when third to Vera's Secret in up in class at Leopardstown. The four-year-old returned with another solid third to the useful Tokenomics at Cork. She then warmed-up perfectly for this race by chasing home Skukuza at the Curragh. The Irish raider will be primed so she can boost her yard's super record at this meeting.

FOR KING AND COUNTRY: Joy for Jim Goldie as American Affair becomes the first Scottish-trained winner at Royal Ascot in 17 years
Scottish trainer Jim Goldie savoured an historic triumph after the jet-heeled American Affair became his first Royal Ascot winner in the King Charles III Stakes. It was the first winner there to be trained north of the border since 2008 when Big Timer won the Wokingham. Before that, the last reported Scottish-trained Royal Ascot success was in 1841 when Lanercost won the Gold Cup. Lanarkshire-based Goldie has been training since 1994 and has a CV including wins in Goodwood's Stewards Cup and the Grand Sefton Chase over Aintree's Grand National fences. The one thing that was missing was a Group One performer, but he has now emphatically ticked that box after his outstanding stable jockey Paul Mulrennan harnessed American Affair's blistering speed and handled him expertly on his way to victory. An 11/1 shot, American Affair stuck to his guns in the closing stages to repel the challenge of Frost At Dawn. It was Mulrennan's first Royal Ascot win since 2010, but the first time Goldie had managed to get onto the podium. 'This is very sweet,' said Goldie after realising his life's ambition. 'He has just been fantastic. We started him off at seven furlongs but, since he got back to five furlongs, he's got better and better. Funnily enough, I was quite confident he would do it here. It all fell into place and, aye, it's great. It means lot. 'I knew he had the talent. Various things went wrong for him at Haydock last month, so we tweaked them. I knew he was one of the fastest horses in the race and it is just how you control that power. We came down to Ascot a day early and got him relaxed.' Mulrennan, who was complimented by King Charles for his level of horsemanship after receiving his trophy, said: 'I am a northern jockey. I am riding Monday-to-Friday horses. To get here, just to come here and have a ride here is special. This is our Olympics. 'You're riding with Ryan Moore, Christoph Soumillon and William Buick, the best jockeys in the world. The best horses, trainers, owners are all here – it's a big stage. It is hard enough to get rides here, so it's nice to come down here and have a ride, but to win a Group 1 here is very special. 'The last time I had a Royal Ascot winner [Dandino], I had jet black hair! Jim has been very good to me. He is a master trainer. He can get inside a horse's head. He is not afraid to tweak things around, run them over different trips and that's what I've learned off him – it is an amazing sport.' Winning breeder and part-owner John McGrandles said: 'American Affair is probably the only horse here with a Glasgow postcode in his passport! This horse is the biggest winner we've had, yes. And the horse's stable name is Charlie and he's won the King Charles!'

King and Queen welcome Peter Phillips' girlfriend to Royal Ascot
The King and Queen enjoyed a day at the races as they welcomed the girlfriend of the Princess Royal's son to the royal fold. Charles and Camilla hosted guests in the royal box on the first day of Royal Ascot including the King's nephew Peter Phillips and his partner, NHS nurse Harriet Sperling. She made an appearance for the first time in the carriage procession the royal family make onto the famous Berkshire racecourse to signal the start of the day. The royal procession is celebrating its 200th anniversary, a tradition begun during the reign of George IV in 1825 when the monarch was accompanied by the Duke of Wellington. The King and Queen rode in the first carriage with Prince Faisal, a member of the Saudi royal family, and Lady Sarah Keswick, one of the Queen's official companions. Behind them travelled the Princess Royal with Camilla's sister Annabel Elliot and the Duke and Duchess of Wellington and they were followed by a coach carrying Anne's son Peter Phillips and his girlfriend. Other royals spotted among the crowds included Princess Beatrice and her mother Sarah, Duchess of York and Zara and Mike Tindall. The head of state and his wife have continued Queen Elizabeth II's close association with the Berkshire race meet but they had no luck with the sport of Kings when their horse Reaching High was well beaten in the Ascot Stakes. The late Queen was a passionate owner and breeder of thoroughbreds and had more than 20 Royal Ascot winners during her 70-year reign. Charles and Camilla have taken on her stable of horses and enjoyed their first Royal Ascot winner in 2023 when their horse Desert Hero triumphed in the King George V states.
