Cork community thrills to the sight & sounds of vintage cars at fundraising run
Beneficiary of the staging was the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) that provides support to people with physical disabilities, offering a wide range of services, including assisted living, community centers, accessible transport, and sports programs like IWA-Sport.
IWA operates 59 Community Centres and 51 wheelchair accessible and affordable homes nationwide, as well as providing many hours of assisted living services to more than 2,000 adults and children.
No surprise, large numbers from across the South West Region convened for the Dromtariffe promotion.
'We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to everyone who came out to the vintage and classic car run in aid of a worthy cause. A truly great day supported a fantastic organisation and the donations flooded in,' said Dromtariffe Vintage spokesman Anthony Holmes.
'The Irish Wheelchair Association advocates for the rights of people with disabilities and works to influence public policy. Donations to the IWA help fund these vital services and support their mission of empowering individuals with physical disabilities,' he said.
Organisers thanked Dromtariffe GAA for the use of their Club Complex at Rathcoole, numerous sponsors, marshalls, club members and volunteers for their support.

AN INCREASE IN the number of fines issued to motorists in Dublin for parking in bays reserved for those with disabilities has led to calls for new technology to be used for a further crackdown. Almost 2,000 fines were issued to motorists across Dublin's six garda districts last year, nearly 700 more than were issued in 2023. The Irish Wheelchair Association told The Journal that the possibility of using new technologies to detect if motorists are permitted to park in disabled parking spaces should be explored. Josh McErlean and Eoin Treacy to begin second leg of Secto Rally Finland in ninth place
The Irish crew of Josh McErlean/Eoin Treacy (Ford Puma Rally1) will begin Saturday's second leg of Secto Rally Finland in ninth place after a steady run through Friday's nine stages. Out in front in a tense battle and having taken the outright lead on SS3, Finland's Kalle Rovanpera (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1), who has never won his home event, leads the way - 4.9s seconds ahead of reigning World champion Thierry Neuville (Hyundai i20 Rally1) whose team mate Adrian Fourmaux is 2.8s seconds further behind in third. Pre-event championship leader Ott Tanak (Hyundai i20 Rally1) took a 1.3s lead on Thursday evening's opening Harju street stage but it was Japan's Takamoto Katsuta (with his Fintona co-driver Aaron Johnston) and Rovanpera that shared top spot after Friday's opener before Rovanpera won the next two stages that included the fast Saarikas stage - a reversal of previous years. He arrived at the service park with a 4.4s advantage over Fourmaux with Finland's Sami Pajari (Toyota) just a tenth of a second behind in third, the latter also winning two of the morning's stages. Katsuta in fourth was followed by Neuville, who like many others, was of the opinion that the stages were too fast. "It's just pure taking risks.' Eight time World champion and last year's event winner Sebastien Ogier, who was trying to find a rhythm, concurred. "The roads are almost too fast in places - they're just flat out everywhere, not the most enjoyable in places."
