SSC introduces Aadhaar based verification to enhance recruitment transparency

Time of India24-05-2025

Prayagraj: Aimed at enhancing transparency in recruitment across various ministries, offices, and departments under the Central Govt, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially implemented Aadhaar-based verification at all stages of its recruitment process.
The SSC released its policy framework on Friday, outlining the integration of Aadhaar authentication in recruitment procedures. According to the commission, verifying candidates' identity at multiple stages of the recruitment process is essential to maintain the integrity and fairness of selection. While traditional methods like photo and biometric verification have been in use, Aadhaar authentication is expected to serve as an additional, more robust measure to prevent fraud.
Though Aadhaar verification will remain optional, the SSC is encouraging candidates to opt for it due to its efficiency and reliability. Candidates who opt out of Aadhaar verification will be required to upload multiple supporting documents such as PAN card, passport, voter ID, driver's licence, birth certificate, school certificates, utility bills, bank passbooks, rent agreements, and a recent passport-sized photograph.

These documents must be clear, updated and verifiable. Additionally, such candidates must report to the examination centre at least two hours before gate closure for manual verification.
The key advantage of Aadhaar authentication is smoother processing and fewer checks during the examination process. Candidates opting for Aadhaar-based verification will face fewer document checks, and minor discrepancies in photographs or signatures will not result in rejection of applications.
Moreover, they will be allowed to report closer to the scheduled entry time due to reduced physical verification formalities.
Verification stages include Aadhaar OTP-based verification during One-Time Registration (OTR), Aadhaar facial authentication while submitting applications, fingerprint or iris-based biometric verification at the examination centre, Aadhaar authentication during physical/medical tests, and final verification at document review and appointment stages.

OpenAI finds more Chinese groups using ChatGPT for malicious purposes

OpenAI is seeing an increasing number of Chinese groups using its artificial intelligence technology for covert operations, which the ChatGPT maker described in a report released Thursday. While the scope and tactics employed by these groups have expanded, the operations detected were generally small in scale and targeted limited audiences, the San Francisco-based startup said. Since ChatGPT burst onto the scene in late 2022, there have been concerns about the potential consequences of generative AI technology, which can quickly and easily produce human-like text, imagery and audio. OpenAI regularly releases reports on malicious activity it detects on its platform, such as creating and debugging malware, or generating fake content for websites and social media platforms. In one example, OpenAI banned ChatGPT accounts that generated social media posts on political and geopolitical topics relevant to China, including criticism of a Taiwan-centric video game, false accusations against a Pakistani activist, and content related to the closure of USAID. Some content also criticised US President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs, generating X posts, such as "Tariffs make imported goods outrageously expensive, yet the government splurges on overseas aid. Who's supposed to keep eating?". In another example, China-linked threat actors used AI to support various phases of their cyber operations, including open-source research, script modification, troubleshooting system configurations, and development of tools for password brute forcing and social media automation. A third example OpenAI found was a China-origin influence operation that generated polarized social media content supporting both sides of divisive topics within U.S. political discourse, including text and AI-generated profile images. China's foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment on OpenAI's findings. OpenAI has cemented its position as one of the world's most valuable private companies after announcing a $40 billion funding round valuing the company at $300 billion.

He instructed his more than 200 million followers to call members of Congress to "KILL the BILL." Musk Wednesday alone has already posted or helped amplify posts on X criticizing the bill more than 25 times. "Mammoth spending bills are bankrupting America! ENOUGH," Musk wrote in one another, Musk was more forceful, writing, "Call your Senator, Call your Congressman, Bankrupting America is NOT ok! KILL the BILL." Musk has said he is stepping away from politics to focus on his businesses. Anthony Scaramucci , founder and CEO of SkyBridge Capital, has suggested Democrats could gain Elon Musk's support by taking a strategic approach: reminding him that a large portion of his customers likely identify as Democrats, and showing openness to some of his ideas, reported on his podcast The Rest is Politics US, Scaramucci, said it was important to "woo" Musk back after a "cooling off period." Scaramucci was fired by Donald Trump just 10 days into the job as his White House communications director in added that Democrats could move to the centre and forgo more left-wing policies to "bring Elon Musk back into the fold as a prodigal son."However, he said it was unlikely Democrats would do so. It would be a coup for Democrats if they could court the influence of the world's richest man once more. Elon Musk, the world's richest private individual, contributed $288 million to Donald Trump's 2024 election campaign, according to public he has since distanced himself from the Trump administration, voicing opposition to the controversial spending proposal dubbed the 'big, beautiful bill,' and has chosen to reduce his political engagement to concentrate more on his business the podcast, Scaramucci outlined the steps he would take to "woo" Musk. He said: "If I were a Democrat I'd be trying to woo him back. I would tell him 'look your customers are primarily Democrats, let's give a cooling off period, come back into the party and help us and lets acknowledge some of the things that you are right about'"."The Democrats are in sore need of a [former president Bill] Clinton-like experience," he continued. "A radical centrist who can come in, help reform the government, lay-off of the hard-left stuff that the country really doesn't like, go for the heartland which was your base."Elon Musk has ramped up his opposition to Donald Trump's One, Big, Beautiful Bill, criticising it in about two dozen posts on his social media platform X in the past 24 tech billionaire posted on X earlier this week that the bill would add to the US budget deficit and saddle Americans with "crushing" debt. On Tuesday, he described it as a "disgusting abomination", in a widening rift between the left the administration abruptly last week after 129 days working to cut costs with his team, known as Doge. The comments mark his first public disagreement with Trump since leaving government, after having previously called the plan "disappointing".White House officials said Donald Trump remains committed to passing his spending and tax bill through the US Senate, despite the increasingly vocal opposition from his billionaire about Musk's comments soon after the first post, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said "the President already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill". "This is one, big, beautiful bill," she added. "And he's sticking to it."The comments from Musk reflect wider tensions among Republicans over the plan, which faced stiff opposition from different wings of the party as it worked its way through the House.
