KUALA LUMPUR: Mosque management teams across the capital are gearing up for the Aidiladha sacrificial ritual (korban) today.
Every detail, from logistics to personnel involved, is thoroughly examined to ensure the ritual is carried out smoothly and in compliance with religious requirements.
Imam of Masjid Negara (National Mosque) Mohd Nadzri Mustakim told Bernama that they prioritise the health of staff members involved in the process to ensure a smooth and safe slaughter ritual.
'We designate spots to carry out the slaughtering, maintain the tools, obtain permits for cattle and goats and clean the surrounding areas.
'The main prayer hall has also been prepared to accommodate the congregants,' he said.
Mohd Nadzri added that the management strives to adhere to the standard operating procedures set by the religious authorities, including the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim).
He said the sacrificial ritual at Masjid Negara will be carried out over two days, with 19 goats and sheep to be slaughtered after the special prayer today, while 10 head of cattle will be sacrificed tomorrow starting 8am.
Masjid Amru Ibni Al-'As in Bandar Baru Sentul near here is set to slaughter 10 head of cattle specially ordered from Kelantan, according to its imam, Zulfahmi Samsudin.
He said the mosque management has set up teams to ensure the smooth running of the sacrificial ritual, including a technical team in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur City Hall and other agencies.
Meanwhile, city folk are bustling with Aidiladha preparations, thronging public markets as early as 6am yesterday to buy ingredients to cook festive dishes.
Azhar Salleh, 60, a coconut milk trader at Dato Keramat market, said his stall began operating at 2am instead of 8am to make it easier for his customers.
Civil servant Noraini Gafar, 38, who had taken leave to prepare, said she and her daughter arrived early at the market, but there was already a large crowd.
'It was crowded, but I was relieved that the items I needed were still available,' she said.

Volunteers share experiences in korban journey programme in Cambodia

KAMPOT (Cambodia): Nervous and relieved were among the feelings of a Bank Rakyat volunteer when he performed the sacrificial ritual (korban) for the first time during the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration through the Kembara Korban Cambodia 2025 programme in Kampung Keh here. Muhammad Haziq Mohamad Fahmi, 21, however, said that the feeling of nervousness was overcome, thanks to the guidance of the Yayasan As-Shafiee staff who demonstrated the correct methods and techniques for slaughtering cows. The Diploma in Computer Science graduate from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) performed the sacrificial ritual on behalf of the depositors of the Bank Rakyat i-Qurban Savings Account and their families. 'I am happy to have had this is a special opportunity for me to practice this worship on my own, while also contributing to the Muslim community in Cambodia,' he told Bernama. Meanwhile, another volunteer, Aswadi Kamardin, 49, appeared nimble in handling the slaughtering duties due to his frequent involvement in that activity in his residential area during Aidiladha. Aswadi said the atmosphere during the sacrificial worship in Cambodia was very lively, with the involvement of the community. 'If in Malaysia most of the slaughtering programmes during Aidiladha are attended by mosque-goers, then here many residents come and compete to contribute their efforts from the slaughtering to the butchering process,' he said. They are among the 21 individuals involved in the programme aimed at serving the rural communities in Cambodia to fulfil the sacrificial rites and distribute aid to the Muslim community in the country. Previously, a delegation of Bank Rakyat volunteers, along with the residents, sacrificed 10 cows in Kampung Trapenh Pinh and 36 cows in Kampung Keh. After the sacrificial activities in both villages, volunteers with the help of the local residents distributed more than 3,500 kilogrammes of meat to the Muslim community in several villages in Kampot, including Kampung Samraong, Kampung Triek, Kampung Kandal and Kampung Prey Thnong.

"We express our highest gratitude for the gracious consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia and Her Majesty the Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah, the Regent of Johor Tunku Mahkota Ismail, and the entire Johor royal family for the bestowal of 230 sacrificial cows to the people of Johor, especially to those in need, in conjunction with the celebration of Hari Raya Aidiladha 1446H/2025M. "We, along with all the people, especially the residents of Machap and Simpang Renggam, always pray that Your Majesties and family will always be under the protection and blessings of Allah SWT, granted prolonged health, extended lifespan, and continue to lead the state of Johor Darul Ta'zim and the nation of Malaysia with full wisdom, peace, and prosperity," he said via a post on Facebook today.
