Kolkata: Trinamool Congress on Sunday reacted sharply to BJP MP Ram Chander Jangra, who said those who had lost their husbands in the
Pahalgam terror attack
lacked the spirit of warrior women.
At an event in Bhiwani to mark the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, the Rajya Sabha MP from Haryana said the tourists should have put up a fight against the terrorists, and the women should have acted like 'veerangna' (warrior women).
State finance minister Chandrima Bhattacharya said: "If this Rajya Sabha MP was in the same position with his family in Pahalgam, what would he or his family have done? Would he have done anything different? Let us put this differently. What were the central agencies doing when the Pahalgam attack took place? What did they do to stop it? Where are the four perpetrators who attacked innocent people?"
Questioning BJP's claims on Centre upholding women's dignity, Bhattacharya said: "The face of retaliation was led by two women, and the operation was named Operation Sindoor.
I am astonished at how the BJP brass is disrespecting Sindoor. We would caution this MP, do not disrespect women."
State industries and women and child development minister Shashi Panja told reporters: "The comments by the BJP MP have insulted women, outraged every woman, caused their anguish and shown the party's true colours." She added: "We are waiting to see what action BJP will take against a person like this, who has shown disrespect to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and their families."

Expressing outrage, TMC said in a post on X: "How dare BJP MP @rcjangrabjp say the women in Pahalgam lacked bravery? 26 people lost their lives, and he blames the women? This isn't just insensitive, it's vile and inhuman." The party added: "@BJP4India has mastered the art of degrading women. Misogyny isn't a bug in their ideology, it's the core."

Trump Brings Mar-a-Lago to D.C. — Rose Garden lawn torn up for new patio and towering Presidential flagpole
Donald Trump is making a new mark on the White House lawn, and it's raising questions. The president has begun tearing down the historic Rose Garden to create a more "functional" space that echoes the aesthetic of his private Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago. President Donald Trump is transforming the iconic White House Rose Garden into a Mar-a-Lago-style patio with two towering flagpoles. Critics argue that the historic lawn is being erased in favor of Trump's personal style and agenda. According to a report by the Daily Beast, bulldozers have begun tearing up the grass and laying the groundwork for a new flagpole, fulfilling President Donald Trump's intention to install a patio in the Mar-a-Lago style. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Schlechter Stuhlgang? According to the AP, Trump approached reporters to check the work and informed them that he was erecting two "beautiful" flagpoles that he had "paid for" because the grounds "needed flagpoles for 200 years." The American flag and the POW/MIA flag are already flown daily from the White House's roof. Live Events The president had already declared in mid-February that he would remove the Rose Garden lawn, which frequently serves as the location for press conferences, award presentations, bill-signing ceremonies, and formal dinners. Later, he clarified that it was because women found it difficult to walk in high heels on the wet grass. During a March White House tour, he told Fox News that the grass just doesn't work when they use it for press conferences; people fall into the wet grass. There are two rose gardens at the White House, the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden , which is south of the East Terrace Colonnade, and the Rose Garden, which is situated along the West Wing. Former First Lady Edith Roosevelt redesigned both flagpoles for the Kennedys in the early 1960s, following their original design in 1903. According to Rose Garden designer Rachel Lambert Mellon, President John F. Kennedy had the idea to revitalize the Rose Garden and turn the lawn that Trump is razing into a venue for formal events. What changes are being made to the White House grounds? Trump has promised to construct a $100 million ballroom that is comparable to the Grand Ballroom at Mar-a-Lago, the president's private club in Palm Beach, Florida, besides renovating the garden. To honor John F. Kennedy Jr., a big magnolia tree was chopped down and replaced with a smaller one outside the Oval Office window last month. The renovation project was started on Monday by staff from the National Park Service, which looks after the White House grounds. According to the Associated Press, they anticipate wrapping up sometime in the first half of August. FAQs Why is President Trump rebuilding the Rose Garden? Donald Trump claims wet grass made it difficult for women wearing heels and wants a more usable, Mar-a-Lago-inspired space. What else is changing? Along with a new patio and flagpoles, Donald Trump intends to construct a $100 million ballroom and has already replaced a historic magnolia tree .

Congress, BJP oppose outsourcing of jobs at PMSSY block of Kozhikode MCH
The Kozhikode District Congress Committee (DCC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kozhikode city committee have opposed the move to outsource 150 jobs at the recently built surgical super-speciality block of the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode. Addressing the media here on Thursday, DCC president K. Praveenkumar alleged that the new posts created at the building constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) were on contract basis. Efforts were being made to appoint people through the backdoor. There had been persistent demands to appoint new employees at the hospital, which was in the grip of a severe staff shortage for quite some time. But, instead of taking in people through the Kerala Public Service Commission, the government was trying to recruit people through an agency. Mr. Praveenkumar alleged that it was an attempt to appoint people close to the CPI(M) at the hospital. He also alleged that those who were appointed through the employment exchange in the past nine years were all close to the ruling party. Mr. Praveenkumar claimed that the Congress would launch an agitation against the attempts to make the hospital a 'CPI(M) sub-centre'. Meanwhile, BJP Kozhikode city president K.P. Prakash Babu said it was shameful that the authorities had not been able to appoint permanent staff at the building constructed using Central funds though 500 beds have already been installed there. He said that the BJP would oppose any move to appoint CPI(M) nominees at the facility.
