Kolkata: Trinamool Congress on Sunday reacted sharply to BJP MP Ram Chander Jangra, who said those who had lost their husbands in the
Pahalgam terror attack
lacked the spirit of warrior women.
At an event in Bhiwani to mark the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, the Rajya Sabha MP from Haryana said the tourists should have put up a fight against the terrorists, and the women should have acted like 'veerangna' (warrior women).
State finance minister Chandrima Bhattacharya said: "If this Rajya Sabha MP was in the same position with his family in Pahalgam, what would he or his family have done? Would he have done anything different? Let us put this differently. What were the central agencies doing when the Pahalgam attack took place? What did they do to stop it? Where are the four perpetrators who attacked innocent people?"
Questioning BJP's claims on Centre upholding women's dignity, Bhattacharya said: "The face of retaliation was led by two women, and the operation was named Operation Sindoor.
I am astonished at how the BJP brass is disrespecting Sindoor. We would caution this MP, do not disrespect women."
State industries and women and child development minister Shashi Panja told reporters: "The comments by the BJP MP have insulted women, outraged every woman, caused their anguish and shown the party's true colours." She added: "We are waiting to see what action BJP will take against a person like this, who has shown disrespect to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and their families."

Expressing outrage, TMC said in a post on X: "How dare BJP MP @rcjangrabjp say the women in Pahalgam lacked bravery? 26 people lost their lives, and he blames the women? This isn't just insensitive, it's vile and inhuman." The party added: "@BJP4India has mastered the art of degrading women. Misogyny isn't a bug in their ideology, it's the core."

Bihar Elections: Alliance On Track, NDA Seat Finalisation Soon; Nitish Kumar To Be CM Face

Last Updated: According to sources, ticket distribution in the Bihar assembly elections within the NDA is likely to follow the same formula as in the Lok Sabha elections The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has decided to contest all seats in the upcoming Bihar elections, with sources saying seat distribution may not have been decided yet but other factors have been considered. 'Which caste will get representation on which seat has already been decided for all the 243 seats," a top source told CNN-News18. The state leaders have held several rounds of meetings to understand the share of seats that the NDA wants to contest. Another two or three rounds of meetings are expected to take place before the focus shifts to the finalisation in Delhi. After that, a detailed meeting with the alliance partners will take place to firm up plans for all the 243 seats. Also, there is no doubt in the mind of the alliance that Nitish Kumar will continue to be the face of the bloc. The decision to continue as chief minister after the elections will be left to Kumar, the sources added. On the kind of commentary that political leaders have been making against Kumar's conduct, BJP sources indicated: 'Any sensitive and sensible politician will never make a remark on somebody's health… One should always refrain from commenting on the health of seniors." Alliance partners Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Upendra Kushwaha will contest in the state. Paswan had expressed his wish to contest the assembly polls, pushing forward his 'Bihari first' stance, and his party gave the go-ahead in a recent meeting. According to sources, ticket distribution in the Bihar assembly elections within the NDA is likely to follow the same formula as in the Lok Sabha elections. In the Lok Sabha elections, BJP contested 17 seats, JD(U) 16, LJP five, while Jitan Ram Manjhi's HAM and Upendra Kushwaha's Rashtriya Lok Morcha contested one seat each. Although BJP contested one more seat than JD(U) in the Lok Sabha polls, in the assembly elections, JD(U) may contest on one or two more seats than BJP. As per sources, JD(U) may contest around 102–103 out of the 243 seats, while BJP may contest on 101–102 seats. The remaining roughly 40 seats will be allotted to Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM). The BJP has decided that it will not award a ticket to a candidate whose feedback is negative in the last two surveys that the party has done. Seat sharing and seat allocation will also be done on the basis of ability to win. 'Any alliance partner who has lost the seat more than twice may be exchanged with the other alliance partner," the top sources added. Earlier, it was speculated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would go to Bihar on June 15 but his visit stands postponed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to travel to Bihar on June 20 for an engagement in Siwan. The Election Commission has indicated that the Bihar assembly polls will take place in either two or three phases. The full bench of the EC, including chief election commissioner Ganesh Kumar, is expected to travel to Bihar this month. First Published: June 10, 2025, 13:09 IST

Trump Jr.'s 'Rooftop Koreans' meme sparks outrage as 1992 LA riot imagery resurfaces amid ICE protests

Trump Jr. under fire for referencing 1992 LA riots in controversial post Donald Trump Jr. sparked widespread backlash after posting a meme depicting an armed Korean American atop a rooftop, a reference to the 1992 Los Angeles riots. The image, widely associated with Korean shop owners defending their stores during racially charged unrest, was captioned with "Make Rooftop Koreans Great Again," drawing criticism for glorifying vigilante justice. The post came amid escalating protests in Los Angeles following immigration raids conducted by federal agents. Demonstrators clashed with law enforcement, blocked ICE vans, and set fires. Though Trump Jr. added no comment to the image, the symbolism was interpreted as a call for armed retaliation against protesters. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Bank Owned Properties For Sale In Cemengbangkalan (Prices May Surprise You) Foreclosed Homes | Search ads Search Now Undo Also read: Trump's ICE war spills onto streets: Where's the US headed? Korean American groups condemn the meme amid ongoing protests The Korean American Federation of Los Angeles (Kafla) condemned Trump Jr.'s meme, stating that it exploited the community's painful history. During the 1992 riots, Korean-owned businesses were specifically targeted, and many Korean Americans were left to defend their property without police support. Live Events 'As the son of the sitting president and a major influencer, his actions carry grave risks amid such a tense atmosphere,' Kafla stated. The group emphasized that the current unrest, while volatile, is not comparable to the chaos of 1992. Kafla also criticized the ongoing immigration raids for lacking due process and fueling confusion within immigrant communities, including Korean Americans. Trump's National Guard deployment reignites tensions with State leaders President Trump's decision to deploy 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles was made without California Governor Gavin Newsom's consent, marking the first such move in six decades. The action drew comparisons to the 1992 riots, but key differences remain. Also read: Trump deploys 2,000 national guard troops to LA amid growing anti-ICE protests In 1992, the Guard was deployed at the request of state leaders after the acquittal of LAPD officers in the Rodney King case triggered days of deadly violence. This time, Trump cited Section 12406 of Title 10, asserting federal authority amid protests over immigration enforcement. Newsom, who filed suit against the administration, called the deployment a 'manufactured crisis.' Historic parallels raise concerns about racial polarization The invocation of 1992-era imagery by Donald Trump Jr., coupled with federal deployment of military forces, has renewed fears about deepening racial and political polarization. In 1992, more than 60 people died and over 1,000 buildings were destroyed in a racially charged uprising. Korean Americans, then caught in the crossfire, remain sensitive to any rhetoric that revives that trauma. Also read: Trump vows to "HIT" any protester who spits on police. He pardoned those who did far worse on Jan. 6 This time, the unrest stems from immigration policy and enforcement, but the response is drawing similar imagery and tactics. Civil rights groups warn that such associations risk inflaming public sentiment and creating dangerous environments for minorities.
