But after a three day trial at the High Court in Aberdeen jurors took just over an hour and a half to clear his name.
The delighted dad wept with relief as he was found not guilty by a majority verdict.
Judge Graham Buchanan told him: "You have been acquitted by the jury and that is the end of the matter. You are free to leave."
Kennedy met his ex online when she was 20 and the pair quickly started a relationship.
His trial was told things got rocky after a trip to Majorca and he avoided seeing her for three weeks after they got back.
During that time he also jetted off to the Philippines to donate sperm to a couple.
He was summoned to the woman's flat in Aberdeen in November 2022 and she claimed she planned to split with him.
But he told jurors that she was desperate to keep the relationship alive.
She claimed he pinned her against a wardrobe before raping her during an attack that lasted as long as 15 minutes.
Her friends had gathered at her apartment and said they heard the pair kissing and arguing.

And they claimed they had to eventually concoct a story about a family member being hurt to get her out of the room.
Kennedy accused of her inventing the rape to keep them and cops happy.
Giving evidence on his own behalf, he told the court: 'She said we had sex with her on top. I held her by her hips.
'It's ridiculous. It's nonsense. I tried it out with my partner. There is no way a man can hold a woman on top of him.
'It's all an attention seeking thing. It is a horrendous experience she has put herself through with these false allegations.
'Why would anyone do this? It's hell for her as well. I believe it's the process that has traumatised her.'
Kennedy is one of Britain's most prolific unregulated sperm donors and even appeared in a Channel Four show about it.
Mitchell started his sideline, which he says he does entirely for free, in 2012 and advertises his services online.
He travels across the UK and the rest of the world donating to couples who are trying to conceive and usually heads to their home. He doesn't have sex with the wannabe mums.
When appearing on This Morning in 2018 he revealed he prefers to help lesbian couples and hits them with a raft of questions before he agrees to donate.
Before meeting he usually spends hours on the phone and he refuses to donate to smokers.
He told how he was getting 10 to 15 requests a week and thinks seriously about who he donates to.
Mitch said: 'It's in us to want to help people and make a difference in the world. I think it's an extension of being a blood donor.'

Driving school boss who made sexist, racist and homophobic remarks loses £2million court battle with instructors
Some 20 instructors quit in 2020 and sued to be released ROAD RAGE Driving school boss who made sexist, racist and homophobic remarks loses £2million court battle with instructors Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A DRIVING school boss who made sexist, racist and homophobic remarks has lost a £2million court battle with 20 instructors. John Benson was ruled to have bullied Benson School of Motoring staff. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up The High Court heard he called one instructor a 'wrinkled old bag' and a Chinese instructor a 'p**sy chow mein'. Instructors were tied to long contracts with the firm in Braintree, Essex. Some 20 quit in 2020 and sued to be released. Benson, 64, counter-sued, claiming damages of almost £2million. But judge Mr Justice Freedman ruled the instructors must be released from their contracts without any liability. Ex-instructor Janine Rusted, 57, of Great Chesterford, Essex, said afterwards: 'It was John's way or the highway.' A hearing to determine costs will take place later. Joanthan Hodge, consultant solicitor at Aquabridge Law which represented the claimants, commended the instructors for their 'bravery' in taking on Benson. He told The Sun: 'My clients spent five years litigating against the Benson School of Motoring in the High Court, and sought no compensation. 'All they wanted was to be released from an environment in which John Benson controlled them through fear and intimidation. I'm a driving instructor and here is how to avoid failing your test 'When presented with their claims, Mr Benson engaged a large team of lawyers who brought counterclaims against my clients for millions of pounds – all of which were dismissed. 'My clients could only sustain this hard-fought case by sticking together. "The judgment identifies their bravery in standing up to Mr Benson, confirming their fears were well placed.'

Alex Salmond's family vow to clear his name as ex-FM's widow set to sue Scottish Government
Christina Hendry fears the stress of defending himself had hastened his death 'FIGHT FOR TRUTH' Alex Salmond's family vow to clear his name as ex-FM's widow set to sue Scottish Government ALEX Salmond's niece has pledged to clear his name as it emerged his widow is suing the Scottish Government over its botched sexual harassment investigation. Moira Salmond, 88, has appointed lawyers to reactivate the ex-First Minister's case seeking reparations for his family after a judge ruled the probe against him was unlawful, unfair and tainted by bias. 3 Christina fears the stress of defending himself had hastened her uncle's death Credit: Andrew Barr 3 Moira Salmond during the public memorial service for her late husband Credit: PA Advertisement 3 The case is reportedly being bankrolled by wealthy friends of Mr Salmond Credit: Getty Allies claim the investigation, and subsequent criminal charges which were dismissed by a jury, hastened the SNP colossus's death from a heart attack aged 69 last year. His niece Christina Hendry, 30, told The Scottish Sun: 'I will do whatever it takes to continue my uncle's work and continuing to clear his name. 'My hope is that the truth comes to light. And that those who dismissed claims of this conspiracy theory are proven wrong.' Advertisement A source close to the family confirmed the case is in an 'adjustment period' where both sides make written pleadings. A top legal team has been hired, including a senior investigator. The case is reportedly being bankrolled by wealthy friends of Mr Salmond. He went on trial at the High Court in Edinburgh in 2020 and was acquitted of 14 charges of sexually assaulting nine women. Advertisement Christina told The Scottish Sun on Sunday how she fears the stress of defending himself and trying to prove the conspiracy had hastened his death. She also hit out at his successor Nicola Sturgeon for dragging his name 'through the dirt' to boost sales of her memoir. Asked how her aunt was coping with Ms Sturgeon's fresh criticism amid a blaze of publicity to promote her book, Christina said: 'She should not have to be going through this and neither should any of the family. Five of the biggest BOMBSHELL moments from Nicola Sturgeon's new memoir 'I find it very distasteful. In some ways it is quite cruel. 'She is using his name for relevance, to promote her book, to earn money — she could have said these things in the past few years. Advertisement 'She has chosen to wait until he is no longer here to defend himself. It's left to the family to deal with this and there's an element of cowardice to that.' The Scottish Government said: 'It would not be appropriate to comment on live litigation.'
