'Every player speeds': Former NFL player Asante Samuel defends Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders amid speeding controversies
Shedeur Sanders (via Getty Images) Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders is in the sights after being cited for two separate speeding infractions in June, calling his maturity and readiness for the NFL into question. But amid the criticism, one-time vocal critic of Deion Sanders and former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel stepped forward to openly defend the young quarterback, saying that Sanders is being targeted simply because of his surname. Shedeur Sanders' off-field problems ignite backlash—and surprising backing The month of June has not been working out well for Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders, but not for anything on the gridiron. Shedeur Sanders was cited twice for two different speeding offenses: once for driving 91 mph in a 65 zone on June 5 and again for going 101 mph in a 60 zone just days after. To make things worse, Shedeur Sanders allegedly failed to show up for the first offense court hearing. But amid all the criticism, there was one voice that emerged in defense of Sanders: ex-NFL Pro Bowl cornerback Asante Samuel. On social media, Asante Samuel delivered a simple refutation of the criticism levied at Shedeur Sanders. "Every player speeds," Asante Samuel wrote. "This is normal athlete behavior, but because his last name is Sanders, the haters want to bring as much negative attention as possible. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cardiologists: Losing a Hanging Tummy Comes Down To This 1 Thing Health Wellness Journal Watch More Undo I never seen a community want to tear a player down like we are witnessing." Asante Defends Shedeur Sanders Verbiage/Terminology Dispute Samuel's comments are especially compelling with his own past public feud with Deion Sanders, Shedeur's father and a Pro Football Hall of Famer. The two had a digital falling out in previous years but have since made amends, making Samuel's speaking out on Shedeur's behalf especially significant. Shedeur Sanders himself has already pushed back against the criticism, admitting his transgressions in an interview at tight end David Njoku's charity softball game. "I made some wrong choices personally, and I can own up to them," Sanders was heard saying on video, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. "I made some, you know, not great choices… I learned." But they don't define his future. His duty and the surprising populist support of a player such as Asante Samuel show that Sanders does not lack his fans. It is to be seen how he handles adversity outside the game, which may be just as crucial to his long-term NFL career. Bizarre! Fan shows up with two cobras and a monkey during Test match
Image credit: IANS Fans and players at the Galle International Stadium witnessed a sight rarely, if ever, seen during a cricket match. On the final day of the first Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, amidst the intense on-field action, a television cameraman zoomed in on a unique spectator — a snake charmer enjoying the game with two cobras and a monkey by his side, all seemingly engrossed in the cricketing drama. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh share a quirky cricketing rivalry often dubbed the 'Naagin (Cobra) Derby', but few could have imagined the nickname manifesting so literally at the ground. The first Test of the 2025–27 World Test Championship cycle between the two sides ultimately ended in a tense draw, punctuated by a dramatic final session. Set a target of 296 in 37 overs, Sri Lanka opted for survival over pursuit and closed at 72/4, fending off a fierce spin burst from Taijul Islam, who finished with 3/23. His wickets included veterans Angelo Mathews—playing his final Test—and Dinesh Chandimal. Despite the draw, the contest was filled with drama and bold decisions. After a two-and-a-half-hour rain delay post-lunch, Bangladesh surprised many by choosing to continue batting rather than declare immediately. Their captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, sitting on 96, went on to complete his second century of the match, scoring 109* and propelling Bangladesh to 285/6 declared. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Laxmi Ji Idol For Wealth, Peace & Happiness Luxeartisanship Shop Now Undo However, this delayed declaration cost them valuable overs — they had just 37 to bowl at Sri Lanka instead of nearly 50. Ishan Kishan to make county debut with Nottinghamshire, inks two-match deal
India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has joined Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club on a two-match County Championship deal, the English side announced on its X (formerly twitter) handle on Friday evening. Kishan, who has played all three formats for India, will be available for selection for the first-class fixtures against Yorkshire at home ground Trent Bridge starting Sunday while the next game will be away at Taunton against Somerset. The Patna-born Jharkhand cricketer will serve as a short-term replacement for World Test Championship-winning South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne. The Protea will be away on national duty to play a two-Test series in Zimbabwe. Kishan turned out for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) where he scored a 45-ball century against Rajasthan Royals and remained unbeaten on 106 from 47 balls. "I'm feeling very excited to get my first taste of playing county cricket in England, and it will be a great chance to showcase my skills," Ishan was quoted as saying by the club website. "I want to make sure I am the best cricketer I can be, and playing in English conditions will really help me to learn new skills. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Forget Furosemide, Use This Household Item To Help Drain Edema Fluid WellnessGuide Learn more Undo Trent Bridge is such a famous ground that is well-known in India and around the world, and I am really excited that I will be playing there," the southpaw added. Meanwhile, speaking on Kishan's inclusion to the squad, Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores said, "We're all very pleased to have secured the services of Ishan for these next two Championship fixtures while Kyle is away with South Africa." A wicketkeeper-batter himself during his playing days, the former Three Lions player and coach added, "We want players to be themselves and to bring their own game, and something that especially excites me about Ishan is how keen he is to be involved in county cricket. He brings proven quality in his ball-striking, as a hard-hitting middle-order batter, but while he's still developing his red-ball game, this spell will be really beneficial for him, and for us. "
