Cole Palmer tipped for sensational transfer to Man Utd from Chelsea

Former Manchester United first-team coach Rene Meulensteen has tipped Cole Palmer to join the club from Chelsea one day. Palmer has established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League since joining the Blues from Manchester City for £42.5m in 2023. The England international was crowned Premier League Young Player of the Season in 2024 and helped Chelsea win the 2025 Conference League. Palmer has produced 43 goals and 29 assists across 97 games for Chelsea and the 23-year-old is thought to be very happy in west London. Palmer is under contract until 2033 but Meulensteen says 'sometimes things don't work out' and argues the player may seek an exit in the future. Should Palmer look to depart Stamford Bridge, Meulensteen feels he would want to join the Red Devils, given he's a supporter of the club. Quizzed about the Mancunian, Meulensteen told Grosvenor Sport: 'It's almost a public secret that Cole Palmer is a Manchester United fan. 'What surprised me is how he slipped through the fingers of United with him being at Manchester City and then getting his chance at Chelsea. 'He is a player that can make a difference, could he play for United in the future? Yeah, I can't see why not. 'Obviously he's got a long-term contract with Chelsea, but sometimes things don't work out and players and clubs fall out, then United would be interested and it could be a really good destination for him. 'He is a United fan after all and he is a player that would bring United back to a higher level.' Meanwhile, United have reportedly made an approach to sign Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins in the current summer transfer window. Asked for his thoughts on a possible move, Meulensteen said: 'It's a double-edged sword, Ollie Watkins is a hard-working striker and he has pace, he scored 16 goals last season, ideally the big hitters like Manchester United want strikers in double figures. More Trending 'Could he fit in at United? It all depends on Ruben Amorim's system and how he utilises strikers. 'One of the services that Ollie can give you is to run in behind, because he's got that pace, he can run onto things and also go out wide as well as getting into the box. 'I read somewhere that he might cost in the region of £100million, that's a very hefty fee. You always want to make sure that you can get a market return. He is 29 so that value will only go down. 'I would imagine also that the transfer fee for another striker would be much less than Watkins – but Watkins has got a pedigree of performing in the Premier League.' The market is ongoing and clubs around the world are doing business. That includes former Hibs players, many of whom have been on the move this summer, and now another in Ryan Porteous looks set to seal a switch. He is with Watford currently, having joined them from Hibs in January 2023, and spent the second half of last season on loan at Preston North End. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Now it's been claimed by Sky Sports that MLS side LAFC 'are close to agreeing a deal' for the Scotland international. The broadcaster states that 'it's understood the clubs are in advanced talks over a fee of £872,000, with Watford looking to insert a 50 per cent sell-on clause into the deal.' A superstar teammate could also join Porteous in Tottenham attacker Son Heung-min. Son Heung-min and Ryan Porteous to LAFC latest It has been reported by The Sun that Spurs 'will consider selling Son Heung-min as LAFC line up a £15million bid.' Now 33, the South Korean star has been at Tottenham since 2015 and won the Europa League at the end of last season, but his future with Spurs is now in doubt. Moving to the MLS would still rely on Son accepting the bid but it's believed that his current club 'would accept an offer between £15m and £20m' that would likely make him a new teammate of Porteous', should that deal get done. Upon selling Porteous to Watford, Hibs inserted a sell on clause. A statement from the club at the time said: 'The club has received a significant six-figure deal for the defender and has a sell-on clause. A product of the Hibs Academy, 'Porto' has been at the Club for over a decade and made his debut in 2017 in the League Cup group stages against Montrose. 'The defender was in and around the First Team squad for the following few campaigns before stamping his authority on a regular spot during the 2020/21 campaign as we finished third and reached the Scottish Cup final. Last season he helped the Club reach the League Cup final and ended the campaign being named Hibs' Young Player of the Season. He also earned his first cap for Scotland last season and put in a man of the match performance in the Nations League game against Ukraine. Known for giving his all in the Hibs shirt and his passion for the Club, 'Porto' went on to make 157 appearances for the Club and scored 13 goals.' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Who are LAFC? Currently, LAFC sit fifth in the Western Conference in the MLS after 21 games. They are backed by a range of celebrity minority owners, including Will Ferrell, Magic Johnson, Mia Hamm, and Giorgio Chiellini. Uncertainty would hit both the Hibs and Tottenham favourites upon arrival in the US, as head coach Steve Cherundolo is stepping down from the role at the end of the 2025 season. LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington said: 'Steve has been a tremendous leader for LAFC and has proven to be one of the top coaches in our league. What he has achieved during his tenure speaks for itself, and we are extremely thankful to him for his continued dedication and hard work. We support his decision to focus on his family with this move at the end of the season. For the remainder of 2025, our goals have not changed. We remain committed to winning trophies this season. We believe we have the people to make that happen, and there will be no better way to close this chapter than with another trophy for LAFC.'

Northern Ireland young gun ready to make most of ‘family environment' after sealing loan move to League One club

The 21-year-old midfielder is the third Forest youngster to join the Stags in the summer of 2025 following Joe Gardner and Kyle McAdam. He spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Colchester United, making 32 appearances in League Two. 'There seems like a real family environment here with a strong bond amongst the players and staff. I feel like this is a club where I can really contribute and develop,' McDonnell said. 'I've previously spoken to Kyle and Joe and they've said nothing but great things about the club.' McDonnell scooped Colchester's Young Player of the Season accolade and also made it into the Sky Bet League Two Team of the Season. He captained Forest's Under-18s in their first-ever FA Youth Cup Final in 2022 against Manchester United at Old Trafford and has also featured five times in his nation's Uefa European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign. The Stags start the 2025/26 season with a trip to boss Nigel Clough's former club Burton Albion on August 2. Meanwhile, League One side Blackpool are reportedly interested in Forest and Northern Ireland striker Dale Taylor. The 21-year-old spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Wigan Athletic in the third-tier of English football.

Branthwaite signs long-term deal with Everton

Liverpool: Jarrad Branthwaite has committed his long-term future to Everton by signing a new five-year contract with the Club until the end of June 2030. The England international, who turned 23 last week, joined the Blues from hometown club Carlisle United in January 2020 and, following loan spells at Blackburn Rovers and PSV Eindhoven, has been a key part of the Toffees' defence for the past two seasons. Speaking to evertontv after putting pen to paper on a new long-term deal, Branthwaite said, 'I'm over the moon. It's been something we've been talking about since the end of the season and to get it signed now is something I'm really excited about. 'The trust the Club's put in me and how many games I've played over the past two seasons has made it quite an easy decision for me to stay and to keep progressing as a formed part of Everton's backline that has ended each of the past two Premier League campaigns with the fourth-best defensive record in England's top flight. He was voted the Club's Players' Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season following a breakthrough campaign for the Men's Senior Team in 2023/24, and reclaimed the Young Player of the Season accolade last term with 89 per cent of the fan vote. 'I know the Club. I feel loved by the players – we've got a good group here – and the fans. Over the past few years, I've seen the impact the fans have on us as a team and how much it means to them. And, obviously, with the new stadium we've got here, the new ownership and the new manager, it's an exciting project and it's something I want to be part of. 'Moving to the new stadium together and having that first game at home is something we're all looking forward to. We want to go again and push for a good season," he added.

Man City midfielder Foden, 25, is sitting on a £8m fortune while Harry Maguire's outfit was also valued at around £8m, including an impressive property portfolio England stars Phil Foden and Harry Maguire made millions from their image rights last year even as their teams endured miserable seasons on the pitch. Man City midfielder Foden, 25, is sitting on a £8m fortune while Maguire's outfit was also valued at around £8m, including an impressive property portfolio. Last year Foden earned around £67,000 a week thanks to his name and profile. That's on top of his reported £225,000 a week City wages. ‌ He is also sinking his cash into bricks and mortar. His company Rondog Sports Limited has £7.8m in cash and investments for 2024, up from £4.3m in 2023. It takes in cash from his earnings away from the pitch. ‌ Top players earn extra cash from the sale of merchandise like shirts that bear their 'name, nickname, slogan and signatures, image, likeness, voice, logos, get-ups, initials, team or squad number'. The nature of business for Maguire's firm HM5 was given as 'activites of patent and copyright agents'. Foden has a contract with City that stretches until 2027. He also has a lucrative boot deal with sportswear giant Nike. Harry Maguire 's HM5 Ltd has £8m in cash and assets for 2024, up from £6.4m. He earns a reported £10m a year at United and has sunk £5m of his riches into investment property. In 2022 , Foden won the PFA Young Player of the Year award. He was also the Premier League Young Player of the Season for the second consecutive year. He scored for City as they were knocked out of the World Club cup by Saudi Arabian side Al HIlal last night. Pep Guardiola's side had come through the group stages unscathed but failed to reach the quarter-finals losing 4-3. It was a disappointing exit for Foden. City were reigning world club champions. Maguire enjoyed a renaissance with United. He scored a late extra time winner for United in their 5-4 (agg 7-6) quarter final in their Europa League victory over Lyon. They went on to lose 1-0 to Spurs in the final. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
