Buxar-Mohania state highway submerged, vehicles rerouted
Buxar: Floodwater submerged the Buxar-Mohania state highway on Monday, bringing all vehicular movement to a grinding halt. To ensure public safety, the road construction department has erected bamboo barricades to block access of vehicles. Commuters heading to Mohania are now forced to take longer detours via Sarenja–Choubey Ki Chhawani–Kochas Road or directly from Kochas, adding 10–12km to their journey. Following the vehicle ban, unauthorised private boat operators began ferrying people across the flooded highway, charging Rs 10 per person and upto Rs 50 for motorcycles. "These boats, lacking registration and safety clearance, pose serious risks, and such operation is illegal. Unregistered boats are completely banned, and fishing activities in the river have also been suspended due to the flood," said Chausa circle officer Uddhav Mishra. He also urged residents not to underestimate the dangers posed by the floodwater. Local administration has deployed a security guard at the site, and imposed strict restrictions on vehicle crossings the highway. However, despite repeated warnings, some people continued to risk their lives by attempting to traverse the submerged stretch.
