The games are a week-long event that sees athletes from 24 islands around the world compete across 12 sports.
Lorraine was jetting from Dundee to Kirkwall on a Loganair flight when she surprised other passengers by jumping up to the front of the plane and speaking into the microphone.
"Hi everybody, I'm Lorraine Kelly and I want to welcome you on this Loganair flight," she started.
"Of course, we have just landed in Dundee and we're on our way to Kirkwall, and this is the last call for the Orkney Island Games."
Lorraine continued: "I hope you all have a brilliant time and I've always wanted to do this, this is super cool, so thank you so much and enjoy. You will love Orkney, it is the best place in the world, thank you."
The presenter shared the video of her announcement to her Instagram page.
She captioned the post: "A CAREER HIGH! Making the announcement on the @flyloganair flight from Dundee to Kirkwall - for @orkney2025 - great atmosphere here - the #bermuda team were playing a fun game of cricket down the High Street in Kirkwall last night!"
Lorraine's role as the Games' ambassador comes after ITV slashed her eponymous daytime show by 30 minutes.
From January, Lorraine will only take to the airwaves for 30 weeks of the year and for only half an hour at a time.
Following the announcement, fears rose that the veteran presenter could quit the channel entirely.
However, she insisted that she was not quite done yet when she spoke to Tom Kerridge on the Proper Tasty podcast in May.
Lorraine, 65, has been appearing on ITV breakfast screens for over four decades.
She joined the original breakfast TV station TV-am in 1994 as its Scotland Correspondent.
When the Camden-based company lost its licence, she was one of only a few stars who made the switch to GMTV in 1993.

US vice-president JD Vance is set to take a summer break in Scotland with his family
Vice-president JD Vance is set to take a summer break in Scotland with his family, creating another 'security headache' for police. Mr Vance is coming to the Cotswolds next month with his wife and children - but the Mail understands he also intends to come north of the Border. It means police will face the prospect of more protests shortly after Donald Trump 's stay ends next week, piling more pressure on overstretched officers. One source close to the preparations said: 'It is another security headache for the police – another VIP who is likely to trigger protests. 'It won't be quite as big as the Trump operation but it will still be very significant.' Activists have vowed to ruin Mr Vance's Cotswolds family holiday when he visits the place where Trump-hating Ellen DeGeneres now calls home. The Vice-President is set to travel to the idyllic English countryside alongside his wife Usha, 39, and their three children, Ewan Blaine, Vivek and Mirabel, next month. But pro-Palestine activists, eco campaigners and trade unionists have vowed to wreak havoc with planned protests during his stay. The anti-Trump and anti-Vance protests are set to mirror recent demonstrations against Mr Vance during a family holiday to Disneyland. Last week visitors were left outraged after Mr Vance shut down rides so he could enjoy them with his children - and he previously faced protest placards during a skiing holiday in the US state of Vermont in March this year. The Stop Trump Coalition alliance is said to include pro-Palestinian activists, climate campaigners, and trade unions. Mr Vance and his family are expected to arrive in Britain soon after the President's five-day stay in Scotland. The Stop Trump Coalition has outlined plans to greet Mr Trump with banners and flags along roads and a beachside message visible from the sky. Further action is intended for his proposed state visit expected to take place in September. It has signalled similar opposition to Mr Vance's British break, with a spokesman saying: 'We are meeting Trump with protests in Aberdeen and Edinburgh this month, and then in London and Windsor in September. 'JD Vance is every bit as unwelcome in the UK as Donald Trump. 'We remember how Vance cut short his ski trip in Vermont because he was so enraged by the sight of a few protesters. 'We are sure that, even in the Cotswolds, he will find the resistance waiting.' The Vice-President strolled through Disneyland in Los Angeles, California, hand-in-hand with two of his children, Vivek and Mirabel, last Saturday - with a vast Secret Service security detail alongside them. In a speech in February, Mr Vance highlighted an SNP government law banning protest near abortion clinics, which critics said could be used to target people praying in their own homes, as an example of an attack on freedom of speech. Mr Vance claimed people who live within safe access zones had been sent letters by the Scottish Government warning them about praying in their homes. The Scottish Government had insisted that Mr Vance's claim was 'incorrect'.

Coronation Street's Sam plays a trick on terrified Lily in revenge plot
Sam Blakeman was put in a terrifying situation (Picture: ITV) Young Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) was recently traumatised by a terrifying incident in Coronation Street. Murderer Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton) had escaped from prison, and turned up at Weatherfield High looking for his daughter Joanie (Savanna Pennington). As the menacing figure appeared in the school, some of the pupils recognised him and fled in fear for their lives. Lily Platt (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner) rushed into a nearby classroom and locked the door. Sam was right behind her, but as he made for the safety of the classroom, Lily refused to let him in. Sam was left in the corridor at the mercy of Mick. Luckily Mick was focused on the hunt for Joanie and Sam wasn't hurt, but the fear he experienced has stayed with him and is seriously affecting him. Having heard about Lily's actions, Nick (Ben Price), Toyah (Georgia Taylor) and Leanne (Jane Danson) have been left concerned about what happened and worried that Sam's ordeal will have affected him, especially given that his mother died at the hands of an escaped prisoner – an event that left him deeply traumatised. Mick went in search of Joanie, so he made his way to the school (Picture: ITV) The ordeal has left Sam struggling (Picture: ITV) In upcoming episodes Sam is unable to cope when the family assemble at the bistro for Audrey (Sue Nicholls)'s birthday tea. He hides in the office, shaking with fear. There's worse to come when David (Jack P Shepherd) and Shona (Julia Goulding) try to get Lily to apologise to Sam for her actions, but she tells him that she locked him out of the classroom on purpose. Sam can't believe she would be so callous and the pair argue furiously. Peace seems to have been restored later when the two cousins both attend Eco Club and Nick and Toyah are relieved that they're getting on again. But Sam has other ideas. Lily has made a poster and Sam isn't very impressed by it. After sneering at the poster, Sam tells Lily that there have been six burglaries in the area in recent days. He says that the burglars move the furniture around. Follow Metro Soaps on WhatsApp and get all the latest spoilers first! Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? When Lily gets home she's spooked to find the door ajar. When she goes inside, she sees that the furniture has been moved around. Fearing that they've been burgled, she screams in panic. Has Sam just got his revenge on Lily? And if so, will that be the end of their feud? It's not the end of Sam's ordeal. As he opens up to Toyah about how the incident in the school affected him, he tells her he's been having panic attacks and is living with constant anxiety, it seems he's still feeling deeply troubled by everything that's happened. Instead of July 14th's launch, more viewers - ironically - watched a rerun of Death In Paradise from series 11, which first aired in 2021. The BBC's repeat of Ralf Little's gentle crime drama drew in 1.8m during the same 9pm to 10pm time slot. And BBC2's stroll through the evolution of man, Human, attracted 1.6m. Shark! fared no better this week either, when double - 2m - tuned in to BBC1's Fake or Fortune? antiques show. Both weeks, the most watched show of the evening was Coronation Street, with 3.3m and 3m watching respectively. It comes after David Tennant's gameshow The Genius Game was branded an "expensive flop" after the £2.5m series drew an average audience of 661,000 by the end. In the five-part show, seven brave celebrities spent several weeks taking to dangerous waters in an effort to overcome their fears and also deliver an ecological message. The line-up also included comedians Ross Noble and Lucy Punch as well as McFly star Dougie Poynter and athlete Ade Adepitan. In the early episodes viewers have watched Helen battle with her fear of the sea after a childhood incident at an aqua park left her scared of even entering the water. Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters The actress, who plays Trixie in Call The Midwife, found even being lowered into the depths in a cage too much and begged to be released. Mum-of-two Helen, 41, said: 'I was terrified of putting my head underwater. 'I have a real deep-rooted fear. 'My kids know that I am scared of the water, and my seven-year-old is more confident in the water than I am, and I realised I've got to do something about that as it's not safe.' ITV say after seven days the first episode has now been watched by 2.8m viewers and the series has been popular with 25-54 year olds. 5 The series has seen Helen battle with her fear of the sea after a childhood incident left her scared of even entering the water Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 5 Helen found being lowered into the depths in a cage too much and begged to be released Credit: Shutterstock Editorial Unlock even more award-winning articles as The Sun launches brand new membership programme - Sun Club.
