What is the Essentia Venti Organic Latex mattress and should you buy it?

Tom's Guide22-05-2025
Essentia released the Venti Organic Latex mattress back in February, promising a dual sided mattress to appeal to a wider range of sleepers. And right now, there's 25% off all sizes of the Essentia Venti at Essentia in the brand's early Memorial Day sales, taking a queen down to $1,274.25 (MSRP $1,699). That's a generous discount for a new mattress, but should you buy the Essentia Venti Organic Latex mattress?
It's not unusual to see latex used in many of this year's best mattresses that we've tested, but the dual sided design is a more unusual feature. This dual construction gives the mattress two usable sides and two firmness levels, meaning that it has a broad appeal for sleepers of all styles.
With many Memorial Day mattress sales already live, this could be the perfect time to invest in a new mattress. But is the Essentia Venti Organic Latex the right fit for you? Let's find out…
Like many of the best organic mattresses, the Essentia Venti is constructed with natural latex foams. Standing 8' high, the mattress' USP is its dual sided construction that allows sleepers to choose between a soft and firm side to suit sleeping preferences.
Unlike most organic mattresses though, the Essentia Venti contains nothing but GOLS-certified organic latex, along with a GOTS-certified organic cotton cover. Both the soft and firm sides use high-density latex foams but employ different levels of elasticity to create the differing feels. Latex is also naturally breathable and hypoallergenic, making this a great choice for hot sleepers and allergy sufferers alike.
As you might expect from a fully organic latex mattress, the Essentia Venti isn't cheap – a queen comes in at $1,699 full price. Alongside this you'll get a 120-night trial, 20-year warranty and free shipping via FedEx.
Since the mattress was only launched in February, you'll struggle to find reviews – there's one on the Essentia website though that gives it 5/5, which is a promising start.

Essentia Venti Organic Latex Mattress: was from $1,199 now from $899.25 at EssentiaEssentia's most affordable mattress currently has 25% off all sizes, taking a queen down to $1,274.25 (MSRP $1,699). You'll also get a free gift with your purchase – a latex cloud pillow with a twin, twin XL or full mattress, and a GOTS certified organic sheet set with a queen or king mattress. This is a fantastic offer on a new mattress, plus you'll also get a 120-night trial, 20-year warranty and free shipping.
The Essentia Venti Organic Latex mattress is the brand's cheapest model, although it's still firmly in the premium bracket even when discounted. Here are the MSRPs for the Essentia Venti:
We don't expect to see the 25% off mattress sale being offered for Memorial Day to increase, so now is a great time to snap this mattress up, particularly as you'll also get a free gift alongside it.
In addition, you'll also get a 120-night trial, 20-year warranty and free shipping. If you want to upgrade to white glove shipping, this will cost you an extra $299.
This is a little disappointing for a mattress from one of the best luxury mattress brands, particularly when you consider that many of its organic rivals offer a full year's trial, lifetime warranty and white glove shipping for free.
As you'd expect with a luxury organic brand, this mattress boasts plenty of mattress certifications proving its quality. With its flippable design, you might think that the Essentia Venti is quite complicated.
But, in fact, it's relatively simple. Starting at the top, you'll find a GOTS-certified organic cotton cover, designed to protect the mattress and be breathable to prevent heat from becoming trapped. The cover can also be removed for washing. Underneath this is a nontoxic flame barrier.
Next up, depending on which way round you have the mattress, is the comfort layer of high-density latex foam. On the soft side, this has elasticity with more contouring to help eliminate and soothe pressure points.
On the firm side, there's less contouring to give a more supportive feel and help to keep the spine aligned.
A layer of organic latex transition foam then sits on top of the supportive organic latex core of the mattress. This layer gives the mattress structure, as well as helping to ensure good lumbar support. As you'd expect, all the latex used in the mattress is GOLS certified.
We haven't yet slept on the Essentia Venti, but we anticipate that this mattress will appeal to a wide range of sleepers due to its dual sided design. The soft side should appeal to side sleepers, with the greater elasticity allowing the latex foam to contour around the pressure points at the shoulders, hips and knees. Lighter weight back sleepers may enjoy the soft side.
On the flip side, the firmer feel will give good support to back and stomach sleepers, helping to keep the spine aligned and hips lifted. We'd also expect this to be backed up by a strong support core, with the latex offering good lumbar support.
Latex is quite a bouncy material, so those who share their bed with a restless sleeper may find that there's a little too much motion transfer through the bed. But this would be an excellent choice for hot sleepers, as both latex and cotton are naturally breathable, helping to prevent heat from becoming trapped in the mattress.
If you're unsure whether latex is for you, read out 5 signs that you should buy a latex mattress instead of memory foam.
✅ You want a choice of firmness options: If you're undecided on what firmness will suit you best or just want the option to try out different feels, this could be an excellent choice.
✅ You sleep hot: Latex and cotton are both naturally breathable materials, meaning this could be a great choice if you're a hot sleeper.
✅ You suffer with allergies: Latex is hypoallergenic, making this a great choice for sleepers with allergies.
❌ You share your bed with a restless sleeper: Latex is a bouncy foam, meaning there could be a little motion transfer on this mattress. Instead, opt for one of the best memory foam mattresses, known for motion absorption.
❌ You're on a budget: Even with discounts, the Essentia Venti is still a premium mattress with a price tag to match. Consider the Birch Natural for a lower priced organic mattress.
❌ You want plenty of sinkage: You'll sleep on top of a latex mattress, rather than sinking into it so, if you want plenty of sinkage, this isn't the best choice. A softer organic option is the Naturepedic Concerto Pillow-top mattress, perfect for side sleepers.

Is PGA Tour planning to implement a 'Rory McIlroy rule' so players can't skip playoffs?

Rory McIlroy is skipping the FedEx Cup's first playoff – the event sponsored by the PGA Tour's biggest sugar daddy, FedEx. McIlroy, the reigning Masters champion and world No. 2, is the only eligible player from the field of 70 that is skipping out on the $20 million purse at this week's FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis at TPC Southwind. Peter Malnati, a player director on the PGA Tour Policy Board, was asked if he was concerned that one of the top players elected not to compete in one of the three legs of the FedEx Cup playoffs. 'Very concerned,' he said. This year is considered a bridge year for the FedEx Cup playoffs and the Tour Championship, in particular. After several months of debating numerous potential formats, the Tour reached an unanimous decision to ditch the much-beleaguered Starting Strokes format and reinstitute a format where all 30 contestants that make it to East Lake for the final leg of the playoffs will begin the 72-hole stroke-play championship at even par. However, the Tour didn't close the loophole that allows McIlroy, who with three wins this year has amassed 3,444 FedEx Cup points to rank second to Scottie Scheffler. On Sunday, McIlroy banked a cumulative $10 million in bonus money for his successes in the regular season and he's in line for two more paydays in addition to his winnings in the remaining two playoff events should he choose to compete. He's already mathematically locked up a berth in the second playoff event, the BMW Championship, reserved for the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings, and the Tour Championship, which pits the top 30, in Atlanta. Technically, there's no consequences for McIlroy electing to take the week off during the FedEx St. Jude. The playoff events offer four times the points (with 2,000 being awarded to the winner) so not playing ostensibly could cost him a few spots in the season-long standings and effect his bonus after the BMW depending on who plays well in Memphis. But when asked if any measures will be added in the future to prevent McIlroy or any other players from taking the week off during the playoffs, Malnati said, 'I think there is stuff in the works and I'll leave it at that.' Webb Simpson, a fellow player director on the Tour board, didn't elaborate if it would be a rule or a penalty implemented to discourage others from skipping playoff events in the future and didn't have a problem with McIlroy's decision. 'I think it's too hard of a thing to make guys have to play. We're still a sport where you can play when you want to play,' Simpson said. He recalled that in 2020, he ranked third in the FedEx Cup and withdrew from the BMW Championship to prioritize rest and preparation ahead of the Tour Championship. 'I knew I couldn't fall more than one spot and I thought losing one stroke at East Lake was worth a week of rest because I was toast,' he said. 'I don't know Rory's reason but I totally get it. It's a hard to thing to fix.' Simpson isn't the only player to skip FedEx Cup playoff events before, either. Tiger Woods skipped the inaugural FedEx Cup event in 2007, citing fatigue after back-to-back victories at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational and the PGA Championship. He would go on to win the final two playoff events and claim the first Cup. He also withdrew from the Northern Trust in 2019, the first playoff event, citing an oblique strain. Jim Furyk famously missed the 2010 Barclays, a FedEx Cup playoff event at the time, due to oversleeping after his alarm clock battery died and being late for his pro-am tee time. He still managed to win the FedEx Cup title that year. McIlroy, who is planning to play several international events later this year, including in India and Australia, should be commended for being a global player, but this can't sit well with FedEx. One could argue that this is no different than a division champ receiving a post-season bye in other sports, but McIlroy's action diminishes the Tour's product and doesn't show much respect for FedEx's $100 million annual commitment. He made his intentions known that he would skip the first playoff event nearly a year ago, and hasn't been shy about saying that TPC Southwind isn't his cup of tea. 'I finished, basically, dead last there (last) year, and only moved down one spot in the playoff standings," he told The Telegraph last November. [He actually finished second-to-last in 2024 but who's counting? He also missed the cut in 2022 when the field was 125 players. In 2023, he did finish T-3.] The show will go on in Memphis with 69 not 70 players but expect there to be a more severe penalty instituted for players who don't play all three playoff events if eligible. 'You might have 1-2 guys do that for an event but I don't think it will become a thing because they are still huge events against the best players in the world,' Jordan Spieth, a former Tour policy player director, said. 'I think they're trying to figure out how to make sure you don't skip both of them and ideally neither of them.' It will be an interesting case study into the style of new Tour CEO Brian Rolapp and how he handles this delicate situation with his biggest sponsor and most popular player. In an era where the Tour likes to talk about what is best for the fan, Rolapp knows from his days at the NFL that a true playoff needs consequences. It's stuff such as McIlroy skipping the first playoff event that damages the credibility of the FedEx Cup just as the Tour is renewing efforts yet again to present its season finale as a legacy-making event. It's time for Rolapp to close the playoff loophole and when he does it should be referred to as the McIlroy Rule.

Behind the Scenes: How FedEx Helps Keep the Flying Eye Hospital in the Sky

Originally published by Orbis Behind the scenes: How FedEx helps keep the Flying Eye Hospital in the sky While the Flying Eye Hospital is known around the world for delivering cutting-edge eye care and training, the magic behind the mission starts long before the first patient is seen. It takes a dedicated network of people, months of planning, and round-the-clock technical support to ensure that every Orbis mission takes off smoothly—and safely. Here's a behind-the-scenes look at the essential work being done to keep the plane mission-ready for 2025 and beyond, all thanks to FedEx and other key partners. Essential Pilot training FedEx serves as Orbis's approved Part 142 training center, playing a vital role in maintaining the proficiency and currency of our volunteer flight crew. Each April, Orbis pilots—comprised entirely of retired or active FedEx pilots—gather at FedEx headquarters in Memphis, TN, for comprehensive annual training. This includes MD-10 simulator sessions, classroom instruction, international mission planning, and emergency equipment training, all designed to ensure they remain proficient and mission-ready to deliver sight-saving care around the world. Throughout the year, pilots stay current by completing four-hour simulator events, which include Initial and Recurrent Proficiency Checks (IPC and PC), warm-up sessions, and '3 and 3s' — training flights designed to meet FAA landing currency requirements. These simulator events are made possible through close coordination between the FedEx training schedulers and the Orbis training office, who work together to plan and schedule training, assign instructors, and provide evaluators as needed. Most instructors and all evaluators are active FedEx pilots, who often accommodate Orbis simulator events around their regular flying schedules. This collaborative effort ensures our flight crews maintain the highest standards of safety, skill, and preparedness for every project. We can't thank FedEx enough for sharing their equipment, expertise, and manpower to help get our aircraft to where it's needed. Clark FedEx team support The FedEx team in Clark, Philippines (CRK) plays a vital role in supporting the Flying Eye Hospital and ensuring our aircraft remains mission ready. Their cross-departmental collaboration—spanning Aircraft Maintenance, Ramp Office, Customer Service, Customs Clearance, Security, and offices of the Sr. Manager and Managing Director—provides us with seamless, day-to-day support during each visit. From transportation to and from the aircraft parking location to providing GPU, air conditioning units, lift trucks, maintenance stands, loaders, and even flight crew catering, the CRK team steps in with enthusiasm and warmth. FedEx receives all Orbis medical supplies at Clark and clears them through their freeport to help keep costs down. FedEx even helped move the plane to a different part of the airport recently when our staff weren't available. FedEx employees, are, simply put, an extension of the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital team. Each arrival and departure are met with smiles, hugs, and genuine curiosity about our programs and the people we serve. We are deeply grateful for their commitment—and they should be proud of the role they play helping people around the world access improved eye care. Maintenance planning and engine runs: While the plane is parked between projects in Clark, Philippines, the Orbis maintenance team conducts a variety of monthly system checks. These include engine runs, tire pressure checks, filter changes, and evaluations of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) to ensure the aircraft remains ready for takeoff at a moment's notice. Looking ahead, maintenance planning is underway for the Summer 2025 A Check, which will be conducted by the Orbis maintenance team with support from FedEx. Additionally, early preparations have already begun for the 2026 C Check, including the logistics of securing a maintenance location and sourcing parts and materials. FedEx supplies the majority of the parts for these checks and makes a considerable contribution toward the cost of the maintenance checks each year. 2026 program planning: The project teams are working hard conducting airport assessments along with logistical and program planning visits for the 2026 Flying Eye Hospital projects. In March 2025, members of the team traveled to Peru for an initial assessment and planning visit to prepare for a three-week project scheduled for April 2026. In June, similar initial planning visits are scheduled for a planned two-week Macau project and three-week Vietnam project in 2026. These initial planning visits serve to introduce Orbis and the Flying Eye Hospital to government officials and local leaders, assess host hospitals and airports for project structure and feasibility, and design clinical training plans tailored to meet partner and participant needs. Medical equipment maintenance: Of course, the plane is primarily an ophthalmic teaching facility – and while it takes a lot to keep the plane in the air, there's also a lot of work required to make sure its state-of-the-art medical equipment functions correctly. Just like the aviation components, all medical equipment on the plane is subject to periodic maintenance to comply with regulations, performed this time by the biomedical engineering staff, the manufacturer, or a third party. This helps ensure efficiency, operational reliability and long-term cost savings, but most importantly, it keeps the patients safe. It really does take a village to ensure this plane continues to travel the world, sharing world-class ophthalmic training with local teams. Thanks to all those who contribute to the maintenance of the plane, but especially to FedEx, who puts the 'flying' in 'Flying Eye Hospital'. Stay tuned for more news from our upcoming Flying Eye Hospital project in Ghana, where FedEx is a Title Sponsor. Continue reading here. Visit 3BL Media to see more multimedia and stories from FedEx
