Uttarakhand: 274 rescued after flash floods in Uttarkashi, says CM Dhami
The floods and landslides on Tuesday triggered by intense rainfall had destroyed homes, swept away residents and livestock and cut off access to several villages.
'If the weather remains favourable until tomorrow [Friday], we will be able to rescue everyone,' Dhami told reporters.
Rainfall in Uttarakhand is likely to reduce in intensity starting Thursday, the Hindustan Times quoted the Indian Meteorological Department as saying.

The chief minister also said that Dharali and Harsil were among the worst-hit areas.
'Power lines and roads have been destroyed,' he added. 'We are working on restoring electricity lines.'
Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and the police are involved in the rescue efforts.
Landslides have blocked key arterial roads leading to Dharali, which serves as the main stopover on the route to the Hindu pilgrimage town of Gangotri, PTI reported.
Inspector General of the State Disaster Response Force, Arun Mohan Joshi, said that efforts were underway to airlift advanced equipment to Dharali to speed up the search for those trapped under the rubble.
'Our teams coming with advanced equipment on Wednesday were held up due to blocked roads,' he told PTI.

The toll from the flash floods in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district increased to five on Wednesday after rescue teams recovered one more body.
More than 50 persons were feared missing after the water swept away several buildings on Tuesday, The Indian Express quoted a deputy inspector general of the National Disaster Response Force as saying.
Among those missing were nine soldiers from an armed forces camp in the lower Harsil area.

Orange warning for heavy rain in Himachal; 360 roads closed
Shimla, Aug 10 (PTI) The MeT office on Sunday issued an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh for four days, from Monday to Thursday. According to the MeT Centre in Shimla, light to moderate rainfall continued to lash parts of the state. Kangra received 68.4 mm of rain since Saturday night, followed by Murari Devi (52.6 mm), Palampur (52 mm), Sarahan (25 mm), Jubbarhatti (17 mm), Dharamshala (16.8 mm), Pandoh and Bajura (11.5 mm each), Kufri (11.2 mm), Bilaspur (10.4 mm), and Kasauli (10 mm). A total of 360 roads, including the Aut-Sainj road, part of NH-305, were closed for vehicular traffic. Of these, 214 were blocked in Mandi district and 92 in the adjoining Kullu district on Sunday, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). So far, 112 people have died in rain-related incidents this monsoon, while 37 remain missing. In addition, 145 power transformers and 520 water supply schemes have been affected, the SEOC said. Since the onset of the monsoon on June 20, Himachal Pradesh has reported losses amounting to Rs 1,988 crore. The state has witnessed 58 flash floods, 30 cloudbursts, and 53 major landslides so far. Bailey bridge to restore connectivity in flood-hit Uttarkashi nears completion: Officials
Uttarkashi, Construction of a vital Bailey bridge along the Gangotri National Highway, aimed at restoring connectivity to the disaster-hit areas of Uttarkashi and transport food supplies to affected people, was in its final stages on Sunday, with officials expecting it to be ready later in the afternoon. Authorities have stepped up efforts to supply relief materials to those stranded by the devastating mudslide in Kheer Ganga on Tuesday that tore through homes and hotels and left a trail of destruction in its wake. The district administration has confirmed four deaths in the tragedy, the recovery of two bodies and 49 people are missing since the disaster. The sixth day of rescue operations to evacuate the stranded and find the missing was delayed till 10 am on Sunday due to bad weather. Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli directed authorities to supply 2,000 litres of diesel per day to Dharali and ensure that LPG cylinders are given to the affected. Horses and mules are also being used to transport essential supplies until roads are repaired and become operational, he said. However, bad weather on Sunday morning delayed the evacuation of stranded people by helicopters, which could start off only by 10 am. More than 1,000 people had been evacuated by Saturday. Medical teams, including specialist doctors, are stationed in the disaster-affected area to continuously provide their services. A large amount of food and relief material is being sent to Harsil helipad from Matli helipad for the affected people in helicopters. The helicopters have made more than 260 sorties since the start of rescue operations on August 7. Eight helicopters are being operated from Matli helipad.
