Paedophile, 80, found in possession of more than 1,000 images of child abuse

Yahoo06-08-2025
An 80-year-old paedophile was found in possession of more than 1,000 sickening images of children as young as three years old being abused. He also made disgusting searches on the internet for "young teen boys" and "old men young boys".
Alfred Bale was visited by police at his home in Newport on September 10 last year and initially refused to allow officers to enter his address causing them to snap the lock. After they gained entry a search was carried out and items including an Acer desktop, a Lenovo laptop, and a phone were seized and examined.
A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court heard more than 1,100 indecent images of children were discovered comprising 256 category A images, 271 category B images, and 584 category C images. For the latest court reports sign up to our crime newsletter.

Also found were 40 extreme pornographic images and 346 images which were "indicative of children".
One of the images depicted a three-year-old girl being raped by an adult man.
Internet search terms were made on various devices including "young teen boys", "old men young boys", "naked boy", and "animals sex with men".
Prosecutor Christopher Evans said the dates of the images being downloaded went as far back as 2006.
Also present on the defendant's devices was anti-forensic software.
Bale, of Malmesbury Close, later pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images and one count of possessing extreme pornography.
The court heard the defendant has six previous convictions including past offences of making indecent images.
In mitigation Martha Smith-Higgins said her client had health issues which led him to "falling back into old habits" and said he has suffered two heart attacks, two strokes, and two incidents of bleeding on the brain.
Sentencing, Judge Eugene Egan said: "The reality of each of these cases is a sad truth: somewhere in the world a real child was sexually abused to create the content you saw.
"The rationale behind this disgusting behaviour by those creating these disgusting images is there are warped people like you interested in such disgusting content.
"You should ponder on that and the plight of those poor children."
Bale was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment suspended for 21 months.
The defendant was made subject to a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement, fined £500, ordered to pay £150 court costs, and made subject to sex offender notification requirements and a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.

Man JAILED for repeatedly harassing ex-partner despite restraining order

An Isle of Wight man has been jailed for repeatedly harassing his ex-partner – despite an active restraining order. Liam Trott, 32, of Grange Road in Shanklin, appeared at the IW Crown Court for sentencing on Tuesday, August 5, after previously admitting two counts of breaching a restraining order. The latest offences, which occurred on June 11, came just four months after Trott received a suspended 14-month prison sentence for breaching the same restraining order. That sentence, handed down on February 7, had been suspended for two years. Liam Trott's police custody image (Image: Hampshire and IW Constabulary) Recommended reading: Burglar targeted pub and hair salon and raided charity box Man who attacked ex and burst into neighbour's home 'like a raging bull' JAILED Prosecutor Casey Chard said Trott's former partner was at her home preparing to go to the shops with her children and a friend on the day of the offence. As they sat in the car, Trott approached, preventing them from leaving, blocking the vehicle and told them he would jump on the car if they tried to drive off, the court heard. Mr Chard said that during the confrontation, which happened in the presence of their young daughter, Trott demanded his ex-partner get the restraining order removed. Trott then leaned into the vehicle and kissed her, saying he would 'wait for her,' Mr Chard added. In a victim impact statement, Trott's former partner described feeling unsafe in her own home and 'a nervous wreck.' She said she is embarrassed to speak to neighbours and lives in fear, not knowing where Trott might be. The court heard Trott had previously breached the same restraining order on multiple occasions. Defending, Jonathan Underhill said his client had already been in custody since his last court date on June 14 at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court. Mr Underhill told the court Trott 'struggles with the concept of authority' but had begun to understand that his concern about his daughter and issues with social services – said to be the reason behind the incident – did not justify breaching a court order. 'There is a degree of regret for his actions,' Mr Underhill said, adding that Trott, who was employed at a sandwich bar in Lake, still believed he had acted as any father would. However, Judge William Ashworth rejected this reasoning, highlighting the repeated breaches and the emotional toll inflicted on his victim. 'This is your fourth proceeding in relation to your ex-partner,' the judge said. 'Your intention is not to give up, and she feels unsafe in her own home and is scared to leave.' Judge Ashworth said Trott had caused 'very serious harm and distress." Trott was jailed for 34 months.

Man caught trespassing on train track with a knife

AN ISLE of Wight man in crisis caught with a knife while trespassing on a railway track in Ryde will learn his fate later this year. Johnathan Weaver, of Barton Road, Newport, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Friday, August 15. The 41-year-old admitted possession of a knife in a public place, and trespassing in proximity of a railway, in Ryde, on July 16. Prosecutor, Giles Fletcher, said the case related to an incident at Ryde Esplanade Railway Station. The court heard he was on the train track, deeper issues were involved, and a pre-sentence report was needed. Michael McGoldrick, defending, said Weaver was discharged from Sevenacres earlier in the day and was clearly in a mental health crisis at the time. He said Weaver had made remarkable progress since the incident and a probation report would be invaluable. Weaver's case was adjourned to October 24. He was granted unconditional bail.

Man arrested after Bournemouth footballer reported racist abuse at match

A man has been arrested following reports that a Bournemouth football player was racially abused during the first Premier League game of the season. AFC Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo reported being racially abused by a spectator during the opening match against Liverpool. Match referee Anthony Taylor stopped play in the 29th minute on Friday and a man, 47, was ejected from Anfield stadium. A 47-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and has been taken into custody to be interviewed, Merseyside Police said. Chief Inspector Kev Chatterton, match commander for the Liverpool versus Bournemouth game, said on Friday: 'Merseyside Police will not tolerate hate crime of any form. 'We take incidents like this very seriously, and in cases like this we will be proactively seeking football banning orders, with the club, against those responsible.' He added: 'There is no place for racism and it is vital that anyone who witnesses such an offence reports it to stewards, or the police, immediately so we can take the necessary action like we did this evening. 'As with all matches, we work very closely with both Liverpool and Everton FC to ensure the safety of the public and the players.' A spokesperson for Liverpool Football Club said: 'Liverpool Football Club is aware of an allegation of racist abuse made during our Premier League game against Bournemouth. 'We condemn racism and discrimination in all forms, it has no place in society, or football. 'The club is unable to comment further as tonight's alleged incident is the subject of an ongoing police investigation, which we will support fully.'
