The late Greg Sugars honoured on emotional night at Melton

Brilliant young trotting mare Keayang Zahara stretched her unbeaten record to 15 starts on Saturday when carrying the silks of the late Greg Sugars on one of the one emotion-charged nights Australian harness racing has seen.
The four-year-old, first-up since December 6 last year, did all of the work outside multiple Group 1 winner Im Ready Jet and lifted when it mattered to win by a head at Melton.

As her driver Glen Craven returned to the winner's circle, it signalled the start of a beautiful and deeply emotional on-course tribute to Sugars.
A video capturing just a small snapshot of his Sugars' stellar career played as all drivers competing last night gathered on the track in front of the winning post.
A podium with a set of Sugars' driving colours, some trophies and other personal items became the centrepiece of a guard of honour from drivers.
Emotions overflowed when Sugars' wife, Jess Tubbs, joined the drivers on the track for a minute's silence.
After the tribute, the Vale Greg Sugars Free-For-All was run and Tubbs had three of the eight runners for the Larajay stables she built into such a huge success with Sugars.
Hopes of a fairytale win sat with the Tubbs-trained favourite Rocknroll Hammer, driven by one of Sugars' closest friends, James Herbertson, who had jetted back from a working holiday in the US to be at the tribute meeting.
But the fairytale wasn't to be.
Rocknroll Hammer led, but the Kate Gath-driven Tango Tara came off Rocknroll Hammer's back to run him down late and win.

'I'm a really competitive person, but that's one race I really struggled with going past the leader,' Gath said.
Earlier in the night, Gath spoke beautifully about Sugars after winning on Pinnie in race one.
'I think we're all still numb and in shock. I just can't stop thinking about Jess and Greg's family,' she said.
Fighting back tears, Gath added: 'It's such a privilege tonight to come here and pay tribute to Greg, the talent and legend that he was. He was so gifted.'
Gath praised Melton officials and HRV for making red, green and white ribbons to put in the manes of all horses racing on the night.
'What a beautiful touch,' she said.
Tubbs spoke of how hard it was being trackside just a week after Sugars' passing in his sleep.
'We didn't get a winner tonight, but we showed up. We showed up when we didn't want to, when it would have been easier to stay home,' she wrote on Instagram.
'We showed up all week, every morning, every race meeting. We showed up for Greg.
'Greg and I often spoke about Team Larajay and our Larajay Family and I can say I've never been more proud of our team than I am right now. Love you guys.'
Sugars, just 40, boasted a Hall of Fame record with over 4000 wins and 71 at Group 1 level.

British actor Jim Sturgess joins Teresa Palmer at Australian premiere of Mix Tape in Sydney

Don't miss out on the headlines from Red Carpet. Followed categories will be added to My News. British actor Jim Sturgess added some international star power last night at the Australian premiere of the new Aussie series Mix Tape. The 47-year-old – who has gained fame on hit films such as 21 with Kate Bosworth, One Day with Anne Hathaway, and The Other Boleyn Girl with Scarlett Johansson – walked the black carpet at Sydney's Oxford Art Factory to promote the new BINGE Original Series, which premieres tonight on the streamer. In this series, his leading lady is played by Aussie actress Teresa Palmer, who, while heavily pregnant with her fifth child, accompanied the actor to the event. 'To have had Mix Tape even selected to premiere at South by Southwest was massive,' Palmer previously told 'I was hearing rumours of it, maybe this was happening. Then when we found out that we got into South by Southwest – that was just a huge accomplishment.' The BINGE Original Series premieres on the streamer on July 12. John Mulaney blasts 'violent threats' to Olivia Munn and their young family

John Mulaney says his family have received threats over Olivia Munn's comments about Ms. Rachel. The Everybody's Live host has hit out at people who have targeted his wife and their young kids Malcolm, three, and Mei, eight months, after Olivia admitted the YouTuber isn't a regular presence in their household. On Wednesday (11.06.25), John wrote on his Instagram Story: "An innocent comment my wife Olivia Munn made about what children's programs we like has somehow - unbelievably - been conflated with not caring about the deaths of children in Gaza. "Because of this, my wife and my two kids are now receiving violent and threatening comments and messages in her DMs. "This is absolutely insane and needs to stop. The people doing this are so wildly out of line and so unhelpful to any conversation. "You took a nothing comment to a dark and dangerous place. This kind of behavior isn't activism." Over the weekend, the Your Friends and Neighbors actress insisted she wasn't a fan of her kids watching cartoons, or the YouTube star. She told PEOPLE magazine: "I know kids love [Ms. Rachel], but the thing is, if I can't watch it, I'm not going to spend the rest of my life going crazy. These kid shows drive me crazy. "Malcolm asked for Blue's Clues [recently], and I don't know who showed him Blue's Clues, but they are on my s*** list now. "I said, 'Hell no. Not in my house.' John got him into the Spider-Man cartoons, which is not interesting to me." The publication has since removed the interview for unknown reasons. Ms. Rachel - who has made calls for humanitarian aid to be sent to help children in Gaza - responded to headlines focused on Olivia's comment. She commented on Instagram: 'I'd rather you cover my advocacy for kids in Gaza.' The social media star clarified that she wasn't addressing Olivia, adding that she doesn't "care that she doesn't want to watch the show", and sent "all my love to her and her family". Olivia later admitted she "never anticipated" the direction her comments took. She wrote on her own Instagram Story: "My comments were never meant to diminish the joy, comfort and impact she brings to so many families. 'I don't want something taken out of context to be a moment that steals even a minute of joy for anyone.'

Brian Wilson's daughter pays tribute to late Beach Boys co-founder father

Brian Wilson's daughter has paid tribute to her late dad, admitting she feels "lucky" to have shared a "soul connection with him that will live on always". Carnie Wilson has "never felt this kind of pain before" after her late The Beach Boys co-founder father passed away on Wednesday (11.06.25), following a battle with dementia, but she likes to think Brian is now playing piano in heaven for his mother. She wrote on Instagram: "I have no words to express the sadness I feel right now. My Father @brianwilsonlive was every fiber of my body. He will be remembered by millions and millions until the world ends. I am lucky to have been his daughter and had a soul connection with him that will live on always. I've never felt this kind of pain before, but I know he's resting up there in heaven ... or maybe playing the piano for Grandma Audree his Mom. (sic)" Carnie admitted her Instagram post was "all [her] hands will let [her] type" just hours after her dad's death, and she is planning a lengthier tribute to her father in the near future. She added: "I will post something else soon but this is all my hands will let me type. I love you Daddy....I miss so much you already." Brian was best known for co-founding The Beach Boys in the early 1960s. His family confirmed the late star's passing by posting on his official Instagram page. It read: "Our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away. "We are at a loss for words right now. "Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving. "We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world. "Love and Mercy." Brian - who was married to the late Melinda Ledbetter and had five adopted children with her, as well as Carnie, 57, and 55-year-old Wendy with his first wife Marilyn Wilson-Rutherford - formed The Beach Boys along with his brothers Carl and Dennis Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and their friend Al Jardine. The group enjoyed their first huge hit with 1963 tune Surfin' U.S.A, and they went on to have massive success with other tracks, including I Get Around, Good Vibrations and California Girls. Brian also dropped 11 solo studio albums, the last of which, At My Piano, was released in 2021.
