Penang's Mutiara LRT Line kicks off with road widening, utility works planned at multiple locations
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the notice was issued on July 15 by MRT Corporation (MRTC) to the main civil contractor, SRS Consortium Sdn Bhd.
'With this, the construction process will begin as planned, including utility relocation, road widening, piling works, and site establishment at all locations along the Mutiara Line alignment that have obtained approval from the relevant authorities,' he said in a statement today.
He said the state is now awaiting the tender results for the appointment of a turnkey contractor for the CMC2 package, which covers the stretch from Macallum to Penang Sentral, as well as the rail systems package for the Mutiara Line.
Chow added that there have been several key developments in the project, including the groundbreaking ceremony, the appointment of SRS as the main civil contractor for the CMC1 package in January, and the issuance of the Notice to Proceed to SRS.
'The state will be announcing the setting up of a strategic communication platform and feedback channel for all ongoing and upcoming mega projects to allow the public to access information and for further engagement,' he said.
He called on all parties, especially the public, to give their full cooperation throughout the implementation of the project, which is expected to be completed by 2031.

This will be followed by a bilateral meeting with Anwar. The two leaders are expected to discuss regional and international developments of mutual concern and review progress in Malaysia-Bangladesh relations in key areas such as trade and investment, labour cooperation, education, tourism and defence. Both leaders will also witness the signing of several MoUs in areas such as defence, energy, strategic and international studies, semiconductor capacity building, and trade promotion. Wisma Putra said Anwar will host an official luncheon at the Seri Perdana Complex in honour of Yunus and his delegation. Bangladesh is Malaysia's second-largest trading partner and export destination in South Asia. Total trade between the two nations reached RM13.35 billion last year, an increase of 5.1% compared with 2023. The major Malaysian exports to Bangladesh include petroleum products, palm oil, and chemicals, while imports comprise mainly of textiles, footwear, and manufactured items. The visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations and foster stronger cooperation in areas of mutual benefit, building upon the strong foundation established since diplomatic ties were forged in 1972.

SEPANG: The Chief Adviser of the Government of Bangladesh, Dr Muhammad Yunus, arrived in Malaysia today for a three-day official visit. He was invited by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss key bilateral matters. The commercial flight carrying Yunus and his delegation landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 at 7.47 pm. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail welcomed them at the Bunga Raya Complex of KLIA. Yunus inspected a guard of honour consisting of 28 officers and personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment. The visit reciprocates Anwar's official trip to Bangladesh in October 2024, according to Wisma Putra. Tomorrow, Yunus will attend an official welcoming ceremony at Perdana Putra Complex. He will then hold a bilateral meeting with Anwar to review Malaysia-Bangladesh relations. Key discussion areas include trade, investment, labour, education, tourism, and defence. JPJ: ‘SIS' number plates up for auction Aug 15 to mark Selangor Sultan's Silver Jubilee
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) today said it will open online bidding from August 15 for a special 'SIS' vehicle registration plate series. It will be held in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's reign in 2026. 'The bidding process is subject to the existing terms and conditions set under the JPJeBid System. 'Any successfully bid registration number must be registered to a vehicle within twelve months from the date of the official bidding results letter,' the department said in a statement. JPJ said the 'SIS' index stands for 'Sultan Idris Shah' and honours the ninth Sultan of Selangor, marking the celebration of His Royal Highness' 25 years on the throne next year. The department said the bidding will be conducted via its JPJeBid system and will run from August 15 until 10pm on August 19, with results to be announced on the next day. JPJ added that the online auction is open to all members of the public, in line with JPJ's aim of providing a transparent and accessible platform for the purchase of special registration numbers. 'All are welcome to participate through JPJeBid as a medium to obtain their preferred registration number from the SIS series,' the department said.
